This isn't their home world, because in Prometheus (spoiler ahead) we find out that this world is a testing planet for the engineers(an alien race)who not only created us millions of years earlier on this very planet but after they saw what we do, decided to create thousands of xenomorphs to send back to Earth to wipe us out, but the humans seen in the movie stopped that just in time. Then one of the surviving xenomorph queens on this planet eventually laid her own eggs which led to this. So Alien Covenant is basically a follow up from Prometheus.

For 18 years, I never knew the alien story continued beyond the 90s. I first watched it on vhs with a static tv in a barn. Ive had an unfinished story for years until I found out it kept going. Amazing lore that keeps you entangled in the story having detective thoughts. Prometheus was amazing and it left you with questions after every scene. I wasn't even able to smoke during the movie because it kept me so engaged. I love movies that keep you guessing and wondering whats going to happen next. Id give it a 9/10 would be 10 if we got more information and understanding of what was going on, but then it wouldn't be a thriller.

This film has it all: -THE OLD: this is a prequel to Alien, has eggs, facehuggers and a Xenomorph. It also has a spaceship with a likable crew! -THE FRESH: this is the sequel to Prometheus, has David and Shaw returning, the planet is the Engineer home world, and there are Neomorphs (new aliens) and possibly even more surprises in store! There's a lot for you guys! Ridley Scott himself has said he doesn't like to tread on familiar ground, he likes to move forward! So most likely the xenomorph we see here isn't much of a focus in the film, only an obstacle at one point, most likely not even near the end. He also said this film WILL answer the question "Why did the Engineers want to destroy Earth?" and that this film will focus on the theme of immortality. -GENRE: a thriller/horror/action mix, just like Prometheus. I don't understand the whining about this trailer. It's going in the best direction for everyone! Some people are even whining about plotholes already. Really? You analyze something that isn't even there yet!? The only issue I find is the CGI of the xeno at the end, it should be better, and hopefully it will be, they still have months to perfect it. That's it. Otherwise I'm hyped, this trailer is VERY promising.

I don't think the cgi on the xeno is bad. They can now make it be agile and fast. Back when they used suits the aliens would move somewhat clumsy so I think the cgi will help that out.

The point of the alien is not for it to be agile and fast. Making it some 100% CGI bullshit completely betrays the artistic merit of the original alien. The xenomorph is supposed to be a graceful (if such a thing can be said) creature of the shadows. Having the xenomorph be a man in a suit makes it much more unnerving, as it looks more human. The creature is essentially a metaphor for rape, and thus, humanizing the creature (i.e. making it a man in a suit) makes it that much creepier.

Also, if we think about it, then Alien Isolation should be the worst game of all of time because it changed the physical structure of the Alien to make it look more like an animal. Well, really just in the 3 Ridley Scott entries. In Aliens, they were colonists, not scientists, they didn't really know any better. In Alien 3 it was a dog, and in Alien Resurrection people were impregnated on purpose. But yes, in Alien, Prometheus and apparently this one, we see supposedly smart people nosing around scary alien biology when they really should be more careful.

johnny rossi my guess is that this is actually the "Paradise" planet Shaw was heading for at the end of Prometheus, so probably an engineer planet. So we might get some engineers (probably dead though). Humans come expecting engineers only to find that Xenos have wiped them out. So the story goes like this -- Creator (engineer) makes man (humans), creator realizes they fucked up, creator makes weapon (Xeno) to destroy man, weapon backfires. Classic story.

Alien Covenant is trying to entice fans back into the franchise, by bringing back the Xenomorph as well as the new Neomorph, it will be interesting to see how this links to Alien because that's where Ridley Scott has said this sequence of films will end, just right before that film. I get your point. Having seen the original "Alien" back in 1979, it created a standard almost impossible to top, and once the "creature" was revealed, all the originality had passed. The film studios made a "franchise" of it for money and I think from all the documentaries I have seen, the writers, Scott and the actors from the 1979 film just wanted this pretty original story at the time to be successful. There was no narrative to continue it, so they have tried to make up one ever since. ;-)

Well then maybe don't have the alien hanging from the ship in broad daylight. The point of the creature is to remain in the shadows and move slowly and almost gracefully. It is a walking metaphor for rape. It carefully and silently emerges from darkness to violently assault its victims, much like a rapist. It also serves to make the xenomorph much creepier by having it be a man in a suit. Obviously, this doesn't look good when you show it in its entirety in broad daylight. However, that's the whole point. It ceases to be legitimately scary when you have some CGI abomination running around in daylight. Take for example the original Alien, as well as the film Jaws. Both never showed their creatures in their entirety for more than a few seconds (and even then, the creatures weren't 100% shown). Even though in these films' cases, this was not necessarily intentional, it greatly improved the film in the end. Not showing the creature keeps it mysterious and unknown. And what do humans fear more than the unknown? I'm sorry, but if you think having the xenomorph be some CGI bullshit is good, you have absolutely no understanding of what makes a truly good movie, a movie that you look back on in thirty years and say, "That is a classic." It is the exact reason the original Alien is so remembered in the first place. This film will more than likely not be remembered in 30 years because of its idiotic, ignorant decision to go with CGI.

@@pokix3775 so when they thought everything was good after the conflict with the species (that was made by David) , they thought they escaped and David was dead . So they went back to hybernation stage to go to the specific planet as it was 8 years away . Daniel was the last person to go for hybernation and just right before she went to sleep , she found out that the robot was David , not walter . As she knew the ship contain 4000 people and embrios of many animals including human embrios . So it was terrorizing for Daniels (for viewers also) after knowing that David will experiment with all the people and will make specis after specis with the embrios mixing with the alien genes . So bacically he will make monsters and possibly he can go back to earth with the ship and destroy earth . Daniel just right before she went back to hybernation (as she was the last person to go back to sleep) , she found out . She screams and tries to come out from the machine but obviously it was too late and she went back to sleep . For me the last scene was really really disturbing and depressing as hell .

That's because the whole point of special effects is to make the audience believe that what is happening on screen is real. If you can tell it's cgi, that's a failure. In my opinion it doesn't look terrible, but I don't blame anyone for complaining.

whether you like this movie or not, Michael Fassbender is fantastic as David, the devious android from the excellent Prometheus and Walter, the good-natured android. For me, he is the Best Supporting Actor in movies this year. He has one of the most unusual scenes I've ever seen in a movie before and he's brilliant in that scene and everything else he does. His unforgettable performance makes this movie worth watching!

As much as I am a fan of this franchise, I can't help but finding this very anti-climactic. this doesnt seem to tie into anything, it doesnt go on where prometheus left, nor does it directly connect to the "old" alien movies. So what we get is "just another one of these movies", same story, different characters. Finding eggs, a facehugger, everything goes crazy and I bet there is one of the guys within the crew who kew it all and went for it. This formula isn't bad, obviously, it makes for a good action/horror movie, certainly, but I'm expecting more than that out of an Alien movie. Prometheus made a good start, but it left us with a lot of questions, and what I hoped for in Covenant was answers. Now this certainly doesn't look like it at all.

Prometheus series is planned for trilogy. Alien covenant is 2th of them. and i think this movie will answer some secrets about xenomorphs and engineers. because some leaked movie sets are not reveal in the trailer. we can't judge before we watch it.

And considering the Xenomorphs are rare enough that the people in this universe don't even know of their existence may very well be the dumbest piece of storytelling imaginable. If that does turn out to be true they should rename the movie *Alien: Coincidence*.

To be honest, it looks good, but the CGI alien looks a little off to me I dunno why. EDIT: I understand CGI needs to be used for drastic movements e.g Running on walls etc. But making the full Xenomorph CGI kinda takes away from a guy wearing a suit, if done correctly a guy wearing a suit can make it more believable than CGI. Especially in a horror movie, if I can't get a real sense of danger I'm not scared.

Also what is an Alien doing in broad daylight? I know they can go out in the sun, but I'd rather the Alien strike from the shadows, instead of going all bravado on the crew. It would add a nice element of horror. Saying that its just the trailer. I will go see it, but I won't hype it. They may cut this scene from the movie and go with the first Alien movie concept.
