Winona Rider deserves additional props for the underwater sequence. She was terrified of water after a childhood near death (or near drowning) experience. But after difficulty with getting good shots with a stunt double, she faced her fears like a goddamn champion for the sake of her art. (Just to clarify, this is not to say that any actor should ever be forced into any situation that makes them so extremely uncomfortable and traumatized. Just showing the respect that is due in its specific context, she did it NOT do it out of outside pressure but of her own free will for the sake of making the best movie she could and wanting to move forward from her trauma, and the director did everything he could to make a safe & supportive environment)

And it helps that it doesn't step on the original Ripley's story or invalidate her sacrifice. She's dead, and this is a new character. And from what I heard, this was the first Alien movie where they didn't need to downplay how tall Weaver was, which she quite appreciated.

So, from what I've heard, there are two special things to note about this movie. The first is that they did not have any molds for the Alien Queen used in this. Instead, a fan of the films donated his original alien queen head, which was destroyed during the movie. Second, According to Fangoria magazine, the reason the newborn was so into 8 was because it had a boner for her. No, really. The censors refused to allow the film to air in theaters with alien boner, so the producers had to digitally remove it from every scene that had his lower torso shown.

In regards to Christie's death, I always assumed that the acid spit onto his face was eating into his skull/through his eye cavity and into his brain, causing some kind of acid-induced stroke. I mean, it eats through solid metal floors, what's flesh and bone, right? Because it happens on the left side of his face and his left arm seems to give first, then the other, I thought he no longer had the strength in his limbs to support his own bodyweight and used the last of his fried motor functions to unbuckle his harness so his larger mass didn't drag Vriess off the ladder with him. I thought the same weird paralysis had caused him to lose the co-ordination to shake his legs to get the dead xenomorph off. It's in no way a clear portrayal if this *was* what they were going for and maybe I'm making things up in my head because I had a soft spot for this trashy sequel back in the day as an impressionable teen. I was also maybe projecting my own experiences with paresthesia and loss of function to the right side of my face and arm from migraines which I suffered from a young age (which FYI later in life led to the discovery of brain lesions /mild brain damage/white matter stroke risk) but all the same, maybe it was a bit of self-insertion too. Anyways, still a lame death in the end and no less ridiculous as the rest of the movie, but just wanted to present my alternative theory to him just saying 'f**k it' and dying because he was too lazy to just shake that precariously hanging xeno corpse off his damn boot! LOL

I actually liked Resurrection more than A3. It was cool to see "Ripley" be more than just a plucky-but-not-really-that-tough normal person. I liked her badass, quirky turn, and actually hoped to see a sequel that explored her being on Earth, perhaps with a full-blown Alien invasion! Plus, the kills in this one were WAY more awesome and gross than any others in the series. Good, campy fun, if you can unplug your purist brain and enjoy a badass romp!

After Alien: Resurrection, Ellen Ripley woke up from a horrible nightmare. It revealed that she, Newt, Hicks & Bishop landed on Earth. The human trio met an alive but old Amanda Ripley(Ellen's daughter) and her children(Ellen's grandchildren; her daughter became a biology scientist while her son became a Colonial Marine). Ellen & Hicks were married, Newt was adopted by them, Bishop(with a new robotic body) became an apparent guardian for Newt while he brought back Jonesy the Cat to them and they lived a normal lives in peace.

I love this movie! I think it has some interesting visuals, awesome music, a good use of practical effects, and I feel most of the cast were having fun with their characters, which for me makes the movie enjoyable. I can see why it’s hated though, including but not limited to the portrayal of Ripley, some of the characters being annoying, and the movie overall feeling cartoony. But for me, those pitfalls make me feel that the movie was never supposed to be taken anywhere near as seriously as the previous entries, and when I go into it with that mindset, I find the film far more enjoyable.
@parisgreen46004 жыл бұрын
I liked this one because I felt like a lot of it was to make amends for Alien3 - they brought back Ripley and she got to be an acid-flinging bitch, she's sexual and powerful, and she gets to go home to earth.
@emilyhadley90894 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I see what you mean, I'm like that as well. I watch a movie for entertainment and so while watching this movie, I'm not thinking about how good or bad it is, I'm just looking to be entertained. I also love this movie, purely because it was so damn entertaining and I honestly find that most 'disappointing' sequels to great films, I still find enjoyable.

For all the flaws, and it does have flaws....I really like that this movie returns to the taboo cross-species sexuality theme that made the original so memorably disturbing--the scene with the failed clones is right up there with the original chestburster for me. I also appreciate that they don't invalidate the story of (the original) Ripley and let her sacrifice stand, with this one emphatically not being the same character.
@jarrodoakley69114 жыл бұрын
“I thought you were dead” “Yeah I get that a lot” James : “no you don’t you have been alive like a day.” Me: well yeah but hearing that twice would seem like a lot. Plus in Aliens she was floating in space for long enough to outlive her daughter, so she probably had a lot of people think she was dead. And in Alien 3 after the ship lost connection and crashed on a prison planet, people probably thought she was dead. Then she died and I’m assuming they also thought she was dead
@TwoBitSpecialist3 жыл бұрын
James doesn't consider the Ripley clone to be the same Ripley.
@chari_czn3 жыл бұрын
^ She may not be the same Ripley, but it’s stated that the clone shares the memories of the original Ripley, hence why she probably said that.
@jarrodoakley69113 жыл бұрын
@@chari_czn also even if it’s just taking the clone’s experience, “I thought you were dead” is one of like 5 interactions she’s had since her creation. That would seem like she hears it a lot I’m jokingly nitpicking

Salem Baron Because it was like a big baby. Sure it was violent; but it came across more like a mammal than the insect like xenomorphs.
@ghostofuchiha38075 жыл бұрын
Yes, it was like an infant that didnt know the difference between good and bad, because nobody taught him. I felt so sorry for him, he didnt really have evil intentions, opposed to the violent and sadistic Xenos.
@ryanm91055 жыл бұрын
@@ghostofuchiha3807 I never looked at the Xenomorphs as evil or sadistic. They never inflict wounds on humans for violence sake. They just have an instinct of better to shoot/attack first and ask questions later. Unlike the Dodo bird(or animals on the Galapagos Islands) which didn't fear humans, because they never met. Having a healthy fear of the unknown is definitely a sign of higher intelligence. Honestly their instincts were on point though; the humans in the series as a whole wanted to use and abuse the Xenomorphs(and the ones who didn't want them for experiments or weapons plain wanted them extinct I.E. Ripley). For all we know they have a certain degree of telepathy and were just as scared us as we are of them.
@ghostofuchiha38075 жыл бұрын
They kill for the sake of killing, not for food. Being intelligent means being aware of what you do. They know what pain and suffering they cause, the Newborn didnt.
@ryanm91055 жыл бұрын
Salem Baron One could argue they are like a scared bull raging at their tormentors/captors(in the case of isolated xenomorphs ala Alien and Alien3) . While the ones in Aliens and Resurrection were being territorial and only killing humans for the sake of reproduction.
