The fan service in Deadpool and Wolverine exists within the context of its story. One can argue the fan service exists in service of the comedy. Meanwhile Alien Romulus does not have Fan service existing for the sake of the Horror. It exists as fan service. Which is why the "you Honey Bee" quote does offend. It breaks his character and it exists solely for fan service. People wouldn't really mind if the Fan service were call backs that heighten the tension of a scene or appear organically in the movie. The issue is the fact that it isn't organic or in service of the story. Its a fan service callback for the sake of being fan service.

Im glad they are kind of course correcting of what I hated from alien covenant. I hated that the xenomorph was kind of created by David instead of evolution making the perfect predator.
@sebastianemond53134 ай бұрын
Exactly! I much prefer that they naturally evolved to be the perfect organism rather than being... "🙄😒engineered" by a meglomaniac android. Still, the fact that the Prometheus/Covenant dna manipulating black goo is featured here in between the timeline of Alien and Aliens is still a bother, but not too much compared to the two prequels. I mean, there are comics that feature the Prometheus black goo in a four part crossover of Prometheus, Alien & Predator franchises: Prometheus: Fire and Stone, which was released alongside Aliens: Fire and Stone, Predator: Fire and Stone, and AVP: Fire and Stone. Their direction with the prequel story was so much better than the movies Ridley Scott gave us.

@JurassicRod4 ай бұрын
I never saw the appeal of making the Xenomorphs a product. Far more mysterious and scary that they are a species that evolved on some hellish world deep in the darkness of space waiting for us to stumble upon them. The prequels ruined everything mysterious about the originals. The Aliens being created by an evil human robot which makes them not really alien. The space jockeys just being bald guys in space suits rather than these ancient elephantine creatures biologically growing out of an interstellar vehicle.
@PurpleColonel4 ай бұрын
@JurassicRod what's more interesting, that a race of advanced people who made us were trying to reinvent their God only for it to turn into a monster from hell when one of our creations bastardized it, or one cool prop hr giger made in the 70s?
@printisdead19834 ай бұрын
Im sorry covenant is better than this one and I havent even seen it, you start doing that xeno/human hybrid crap, you automatically no matter how "good" the rest of the movie trys to be, you destroyed all that good faith and wind up no matter what in the same category as resurrection,and from what I've heard resurrection was ten times better than this one,

I did like the movie, but we need a direct sequel to Aliens, Hicks and Newt didnt deserve the Alien3 storyline. Newt could grow up and become a marine herself, have her own movies.
@StitchedTogetherPictures4 ай бұрын
I’ve never been a fan of Alien 3. I wouldn’t mind a requel set after Aliens. Would have been interesting to see what Blomkamp could’ve done with it.
@sebastianemond53134 ай бұрын
@StitchedTogetherPictures I still have more respect for Alien³ than I do with Alien: Covenant. A way Alien³ could've been fixed would've been if instead of dying in her pod, Newt's pod malfunctioned, so she aged while she was sleeping, and that way, an older Carrie Henn could've been alongside Sigourney's Ripley on Fiorina 161, being protected by Ripley from the inmates and the new quadruped xenomorph. Also, I don't get why they axed Michael Biehn's Hicks; it would've been nice to have him there maybe to help teach Newt how to defend herself, and maybe go out fighting the Alien in their last ditch plan with the lead works. No offense to Charles Dutton's Dillon, but I was hoping he'd survive since he was one of the few inmate characters I liked. Maybe Ripley's sacrifice at the end would be a way to pass the survivor girl torch to Newt, who would go on to become a marine in her later years in honor of Ripley & Hicks after leaving the prison planet? That would've been a great way to lead into Neil Blomkamp's sequel.
@JurassicRod4 ай бұрын
I love Alien 3 and that Hicks and Newt were killed off in the crash caused by the aliens. Really showed how deadly the species is even when you think you've escaped and set the tone for Ripley being truly alone and unable to escape the xenomorphs effecting her life. Why it was so important she stop them ever getting to earth. I liked Hicks and Newt well enough but never felt I needed more. They were pretty much there to develop Ripleys character which they did in life and death.
@sebastianemond53134 ай бұрын
@@JurassicRod They still deserved better than their opening send off. It's as bad as Alien: Covenant killing off Noomi Rapace's Ellie Shaw after her ending declaration to find the Engineers, only to shift the focus to David and his God complex with the xenomorphs.

Like many, I really liked when the movie was a claustrophobic race against time and the silent stalker that is the Xeno. But one thing I couldn’t help but notice is, just like zombie bites, getting face hugged now gives you minutes at best and seconds at worst. In the first movie, it was implied to have taken several days just for the face hugger to lay its eggs, and then at LEAST one or two more for the chest burster to actually gestate before doing its thing. Now, it happens whenever the plot needs someone to die in an extremely inconvenient way at the MOST inconvenient time
@StitchedTogetherPictures4 ай бұрын
Exactly. Now the growth period is whatever is convenient for the pacing and plot.
@DerpDevilDD4 ай бұрын
And it was completely unnecessary. It was only there because it's an Alien movie, so there "needs" to be a chest burster. If it had died right after popping out, from not having enough time to incubate, I would have been happy. The ship was infested anyway!

I had a great time with this. Definitely my biggest surprise of the year. I do agree with you on how they could've handled the Rook aspect. I would've liked them going the Alien 3 "Bishop" route and made it fully animatronic with a dub. I'm someone who's not too big on Prometheus and Covenant but it's mainly due to retconning the Space Jockey and making it a creation story. However I really dig the horror aspect of the black pathogen. It offers a level of lovecraftian/body horror apart from the standard xenomorph. It's something I like to see them play with more. I would love to see the AVP movie co directed by Alvarez and Dan Trachtenberg

@badism83694 ай бұрын
Once again, this is rumor control. Ridely Scott 100% controls the alien franchise. He has final say on everything. Thanks to a copywrite law that allows original creators to reclaim their works after 40 years, he was able to make an agreement with series creater Dan O'bannon's estate to obtain custodianship over the franchise. That is why he was an executive producer on Alien Romulas. There is nothing fox or disney can do about it...except decline to finace anything, which would force Scott to seek financing himself, which he will not do. Ridley personally vetoed Neill Blomkamp's Alien 5, which had the backing of Fox, Weaver and Behien in favor of continuing his engineers/David, story. He was dragging his heals on a Promethus sequel and the hype generated by Alien 5 was what finally got him off his butt. He actually did the fans a diservice, as Alien 5 would have been incredible and finally set the franchise back on the right path. It was Scott's ego and his false belief that "the beast is done" These days I don't think he cares all that much anymore, but he cared enough to insist on "black goo" being in Romulas. So, make no mistake as long as he is alive Ridely Scott is the final say on all things alien (except stuff from Aliens, which James Cameron owns. It's no coincidence that no concepts from Aliens, like Alien queens, have been used, since the same copywrite law gives Jim Cameron full ownership of every concept he created for Aliens as of 2025. They don't want to world build with his ideas because they'll have to start consulting him and paying him)

Yeah it’s interesting. I never heard of that law until Victor Miller sued and got the rights to Friday the 13th.
@badism83694 ай бұрын
@@StitchedTogetherPictures Yup. It's ridiculous really. Miller had almoat nothing to do with the franchise except the first draft of the original film's script. He didn't create Jason as a character. He only created Pamela Voorhees and some basic concepts that had already been done in other slashers. Tom Savani had a heck of alot more to do with the legacy of the franchise, yet he doesn't get a dime. He came up with Jason in the lake. It's Millers greed that has robbed us of offcial F13th content since 2009! Sean Cunningham had the idea, got the finacing, directed the film and assumed all risk. IfbF13th failed unninghma is bankrupt. Miller should get a fat check from the first movie and that's it. Instead he wants everything, to take the franchise from Cunningham. I hate him, I really do. Wes Craven's estate took Freddy from New Line too..and has done NOTHING with it. Congress needs to take another look at this law, it's absurd.

It's like, some are worth watching, but do we really *need* so many additions to the franchise? Ah, well. That's just me. Have a great weekend, Andy!

Every time you brought up that "I'll do the fingering" moment, I burst out laughing alongside Evil Andy. Why does that scene exist? 🤣 Anyway, while some of the fan service got annoying and/or distracting, and I really don't like the tie-ins with Prometheus and Covenant, Alien: Romulus was a great time, and it might very well be the best Alien film we've gotten since Aliens. Also, I know some people found it laughable, but I personally thought the Offspring was pure nightmare fuel.

I don’t know how Fassbender said that line with a straight face. Surely they knew what would happen. Kinda like how fans like seeing the Predator in different time periods or situations, I like seeing the different breeds of Xenos. For instance when a Predator got facehugged and we got the Pred-Alien. Yeah, AVP 2 was crap, but it’s a cool creature design. I thought the Offspring was creepy.

Romulus is the best hits from the entire series in new colors. Despite some flaws, I liked it, but I still think that the first 4 entries are better. I had a good time watching it and I recommend it

I saw it last week with a friend and we both liked the call back and fan service,though we did call the teenager dumb a few times,but all in all we thought they did a good job on the movie and I just might go back and rewatch it or buy the movie when it come out on dvd.

This was one of your best. The jokes ALL hit, the energy was great, and you reminded us what could have been with Blomkamp/the best characters. While still giving a fair review, that I completely agree with. The movie is getting too much flak for the member berries( they were executed poorly tho). In an age where studios/directors use "member berries" to distract from soulless cash grabs or worse, as camouflage or Buffalo Bill-like skin suits to hide what seems to be complete disdain and mockery of the IP in favor of shoehorning in their own, barely fan-fic level deconstructive garbage. This was not only pretty dang good, but very much in the spirit of the franchise in a way that only comes from filmmakers who know, understand, and respect the originals. I agree with you, this is pretty easily the 3rd best movie in the series. Just like the 2009 Friday the 13th remake, that you were way too hard on. It was super faithful to the spirit, feel, and fun of OG IMO and added fun bits to the lore, that were different enough, but worked, while bumping up the production level. The scoring was the only major letdown to me.

I was on the fence with the F13 remake getting the boot or not. It was the only time I did a fan poll and they said boot it. Agreed. I think Romulus is getting too much hate for the member berries. Thanks for watching and have a great weekend!

@@StitchedTogetherPictures You too. Unrelated, but are you a fan of Dario Argento films? IMO Just about everything from The Bird with the Crystal Plumage to 2 Evil eyes, are about as artistic/elegant as gory horror can be. If you haven't seen TBWTCP, Cat o' 9 tails, 4 Flies on Grey Velvet, Deep Red, Inferno, Tenebre, Phenomena, Demons 1&2, Opera, The Church you should definitely check them out. His stuff took a considerable step down in the 90s IMO. I think his work was on par with classics like Halloween or Rosemary's Baby, ironically until The Sect, which is kind of like a more brutal Rosemary's Baby, without the style. but Trauma, Stendhal Syndrome and Wax Mask are still worth a watch.

i'm torn on this one, i really am ... i liked how it looked and how it flowed to begin with, loved the world building and lore behind them working to death BUT as soon as the aliens turned up it went from meh..wtf to oh no... facehuggers got nerf'd room temp? really? the aliens were nerf'd beyond whilst an earlier form of the pulse rifle got nerf'd for the marines in ALIENS ... really!!??, autolocking with 450 rounds!! but autolocking head shots ! ... also what the hell went on with the evolution of the alien itself??? shake n bake?? godamn!! near instant alien, popcorn takes longer to pop and oh dear the last part was bad ... 3rd act could've been better ...a lot better, I PREFER the directors cut alien 3 to this, BUT its better than 4 ...

How long it takes for a xenomorph to burst out of a chest and also for it to reach full size has been an issue in several sequels. It use to take some time, but now it’s whatever is convenient for the pacing.

The “bitch” line was definitely eye rolling. I enjoyed a lot of this movie though. The hybrid looked much creepier than the thing in “Resurrection.” My only other major gripe is the unnecessary use of British actors. I needed subtitles. Needlessly.

Seems silly, but if they were to edit out that one line I would’ve loved the film a lot more. That’s probably the one callback that broke a lot of people.
All I could think of with Andy, was Solomon from "The Hand That Rocks The Cradle". Like not disrectfully, but I was thinking, did they program him in Turbo Pasacal.

i enjoyed it but i still wish we got a deadpool 3 instead of D&W. I really wanted them to bring back cable, domino and firefist from Deadpool 2 and have a team movie around those characters. I love deadpool 2 so i was hoping they went further in that direction

How do you get the scenes to put in the review while the movie is still in theaters? Previews? Torrent? Just wondering.

i didn't hate the movie, but i found myself realizing where i would have made changes at the end. I feel like the android should've kept the chip that made him smart. I also felt some of the actions the characters took were a little too stupid. the only reason the sister dies at the end is because the hero lets the baby get away. It just seems like a poor way to keep the plot going. they could've had here nearly fall out of the ship or something, but instead she just leaves the room for a bit so the sister can get killed.

Sweet - an Andy video is a good way to start the long weekend Yeah, I enjoyed Romulus, but the callbacks were a big distraction for me. I think Deadpool/Wolverine is a completely different experience - you know what you're going to get with that (also, the Marvel films aren't my favorite, even the 'good' ones). I hated the deep-fake: I think it would've been fine if they had used an animatronic-Ash model, the way they did with the damaged Bishop-unit in Alien3 - I wouldn't have minded that at all, but they just could've used a random actor. All that work they put into the alien-practical effects really paid off. I also thought it was a bit far-fetched that the original xenomorph would be floating around the wreckage of the Nostromo, but whatever. And the word-for-word callback lines... what is this, the Terminator franchise? I still liked Romulus, but I 100% understand the criticisms. Maybe this can bridge into a film without so many callbacks - this would have been a better film without them. The last act... I actually enjoyed it, for as far-out as it was. You knew, as soon as you found out that character was pregnant, that her baby was doomed, lol.

The Alien franchise should have ended after Aliens. There’s also a lot Alien comics and novels that could be adapted.
