Not from the shuttle that Ripley escaped with, and they would have needed that data to estimate where the Alien had been blown due to the thruster firing. Also it getting coated in rock is just as laughable. Nothing about this setup makes sense, and I suspect they are going to try to claim that each cell from a Xeno can make a new facehugger, which would make the eggs completely useless. I expect this movie is FULL of plot holes.
@Lawrence_Talbot4 ай бұрын
Not really. Ash and Mother (ship computer) reported back about the lifeform but that’s about it. WY received what little data they got and then founded Hadley’s Hope on the planet to find the source of the lifeform and try to capture it for weaponization/commercial value The problem is ever since Disney took over the brand around 2014 or so, they rebooted the canon (just like Star Wars) and everything has to tie back to Ripley in someway. It is beyond annoying. The franchise now lacks any originality. There is a massive difference between the books and comics we used to get from Dark Horse vs now with Titan Books which just pumps out Disney garbage. Seriously in one book they claim someone found Ripley between Alien and Aliens, there’s yet another xeno aboard the ship that rescues her, everyone dies except Ripley and the only way she survives is she gets back in her original life pod and bangs her head causing her to get memory loss of everything that happened in the book so it won’t break the movie canon 🤦🏻♂️

I’m probably going to be in the minority in this (but being black, liking rock music, and attending a nearly all white high school, that tracks for me😂), but the Alien franchise began and ended with two amazing movies. As evidenced by just about every horror franchise with multiple entries, one can only go to the well so many times before the implacable horror is just another beatable (for now!) boogeyman. What made Alien, and slightly to a lesser extent Aliens, is that it stuck close to mentality of good ol HPL when he said “The oldest and strongest emotion is fear. And the oldest and strongest fear is of the unknown. The first movie’s title, “Alien”, just doesn’t apply to the creature itself (when it had no cutesy name like “xenomorph”). It worked on so many levels. The situation the Nostromo crew encountered was alien. The ship they found the eggs was alien. The dead pilot was alien. How the creature reproduced, spawned and behaved was alien. Nowadays you can set your watch to how things are going to go in an Alien movie. And hollywoke, always relying on a safe bet, will keep trotting out the Freddys and Jasons and Chuckys with the same old tropes until kingdom come. It’s a miracle the likes of Katie of Paranormal Activity and Jigsaw broke through a crowded field. Anyway, this is a pass for me.
@scottjo764 ай бұрын
Good points, well thought out.....And while i agree in that once you've got a franchise in place, the unknown is no longer part of it and no longer truly 'Alien' It is however such a brilliantly designed and timeless monster, and a lot of us really love the franchise, it can never be truly fresh but we still enjoy all the motifs that it has to offer. As you mentioned, the first Alien was true cosmic HPL horror.....it saturated itself in stillness, ambient sounds and a true sense of 'otherness' It's very very difficult to recapture that now with over four decades of knowing our friend the Xenomorph. That's why Ridley wanted to take the franchise and move it from being purely about the monster, he wanted to explore more elevated conceptual and philosophical themes. While he didn't entirely succeed i do enjoy those movies, many don't but i appreciate what he was going for. Despite the Alien no longer being 'Alien' to us the franchise is still very rich......with it's AI aided corporate fascism, black-goo, genetic manipulations along with the monster, it's great, i and still personally love it, the games too. Romulus i think is a solid entry, a lot of fun to watch

@Foulfellow Starship Troopers with Xenos is the perfect description for Aliens, a really fun movie but it lacks the serious hard sci-fi elements of Alien When i was a boy i preferred Aliens, it was an easier watch....but i think this is true for a lot of Alien fans that they much prefer the original as they get older and Aliens (while still fun) begins to lose its critical value

Ya, I saw Deadpool and Wolverine again yesterday so I had to watch this trailer again. What came to mind when I watched the trailer again this time was how young everyone in the movie is and then I want to make sure I'm not biasing myself so I thought back to the first Alien movie I saw (the first movie which I definitely saw too young). So I made this list. Sigourney Weaver was about 30 Tom Skerritt was 46 John Hurt was 39 Veronica Cartwright (which I always feel compelled to mention gives the most under rated performance in the movie- just phenomenally terrified) 30 Harry Dean Stanton was 53 Ian Holm was 48 Yaphet Kotto was 40 This info is from IMDB. So if it's wrong it's their fault. Or I did my math wrong- sorry if that happens. I'm dumb sometimes. But for me what this says is- what are they thinking casting so young for this film? I mean besides making a cheap movie. I mean, I couldn't find all of their ages (admittedly I didn't try harder than IMDB) but they all seem to be between 23-28. It somewhat reminds me of Solo- where everyone just seems like their cosplaying famous characters. None of them feel lived in or like a real person. The only thing I can think, besides "cheap" is they cast so young so they can make a lot of movies off of this. I... I can't express enough how much I hate this thinking when movies get made. It's part of the factorization of Hollywood. Making it into a machine to "pump out content." Yech. Just bad decision making for a creative endeavor imo. I haven't seen the movie yet, but everything about it just gives me the wrong feel. Just like the Evil Dead this director made. Just wrong wrong wrong (I heard Don't Breathe is good, but I never saw it- but then that was an original so... not him making someone else's art).

I think it would always be problematic when you try to recreate the 1st movie (almost to the point of trying to outdo or replace it). I mean, just look at the cast of the 1st one alone, there ain't no way. My opinion , all alien movies that follow should be made in different sort of scenarios , settings. Evolve, not repeat. Aliens 2 moved on from the first and made it from a military mission point of view, it evolved from the first one. Alien 3 went further down the road , different setting , scenario entirely.

I agree with Chris maybe 50%. I liked it, CGI is bad mainly for the cameo and the end surprise alien. Maybe a better ending would have been better. I agree that the cast is too young, considering that in the first film Sigourney was 29 and the youngest. It is a grown up life story that works with older characters, but I was fine something that I didn’t feel with Ghostbusters Afterlife. All alien films are basically same, this one just took longer to launch.

Totally agree. The first act, ignoring a few things that don’t make much sense, was very promising and got me hyped for the second part, which unfortunately was a letdown for me. There were too many callbacks to other moments from previous entries in the franchise, all crammed in there just to make you go, “Oh! I remember that!” It’s not a terrible movie by any means. The first part gets the tone right, but most of the cast is forgettable, aside from Spaeny and Jonsson (whose performances I really enjoyed). The second act is just badly written, in my opinion. The first part is so promising that if they hadn’t felt the need to lean this heavily (and clumsily) on the nostalgia, I think this could’ve ended up as a very unique entry in the Alien universe and a solid movie based on its own merits.

i think that this movie took all the aspects from the 6 movies prior and squished them in to a solo meta narative storyline that acutally works as an independant horror that revolves around a RELATABLE crew of missfits looking to estape the system and will take a risk to get it which can lead to unfair odds and bad things happening. if you are from Dan O'bannon Era movies you know all of the reasons produced movies under O'bannon are just epic. and i know that Fede is more a reproductionist director like James Wan .they can reproduce the correct ambiance that is not high quality but reproduction quality and long as they use FRESH FACE actors movies will be passable as good while repeating the patterns of the older movies and not losing much of the subtext meaning in the name and context of the movies or media. the ambiance music always important even if it's Red Dragon treating us to chelos and violins or some 90s Cyberpunk with Synths and metal drops;. like Alien has it's SAW BLADE SHEEKs and closing the car door in a barn echo. the audio is so important the atmosphear is even more but to me this movie Played more like a DLC narative in a videogame than a movie, did not like they Revived Ian Holme however that trend at disney of bad deep fake AI noncense is getting out of hand.

The British cousins were hard to understand, the lead actress and her “brother” were pretty good. The cast overall was a bit bland. The tension was stressful and great throughout. The visuals and production design were great. The effects on the cameo were bad and appear more frequently than I expected. The ending is understandably divisive, but I didn’t mind the wild weirdness. Overall I really enjoyed the movie despite its flaws. Movies in this genre aren’t particularly common so I appreciate when there’s some competence on display.
