I always felt that the Prometheus film held immense philosophical potential regarding the meaning of existence and life. Shaw, a believer in God, is unable to have children. Weyland sees himself as equal to the gods, having created David. David, in turn, questions his creator and looks down upon them. Later, the Engineer kills Weyland, offended by his audacity to compare himself to their kind. As I understood it, the original plan for Covenant was to take a very different narrative path than what we eventually got. The idea was that David would deceive Shaw into becoming the host for his version of the Alien Queen, thus completing the cycle. David, a creation of humanity, would enable an infertile woman to become the mother of the "perfect organism."

That is not profound. That is on the level of a 4 yo who thinks he is deep. The engineers was the worst decisions ever. He turned a horrifying being into a big blue bodybuilder??? That is laughable not scary. Some things are better left unexplained. Thanks Ridles for destroying that franchise.

The only thing I want from a future Alien movie is to see Engineers again. To be honest Romulus was great. *EDIT for the next people, who might interpret my remark regarding "Alien: Romulus" wrongly: Romulus was done in a way to match into Ridley Scott's Alien timeline and not contradict future plans of his. As far as I'm concerned, that's enough. Not to ignore the obvious fact that it actually drew much inspiration from the original Alien's plots, characters and environments. You could feel that it's taking place in the same universe, while all of the other Alien movies coupled with the Predator crossfires make no sense, with enormous amount of plot holes and were totally oblivious to Ridley's vision. So yeah, when I say it was great, that's just my informed and well-considered opinion. Prometheus was Ridley's redemption and ressurection of this mindlessly directed franchise. The referencing of 'Romulus' is deeper than just the wolf image. Romulus and Remus were brothers cast out form their rightful home but kept alive by a female wolf. Romulus then eventually fell out with his brother and killed him, after which he founded Ancient Rome. There is a lot of imagery there that can be tied back to aspects of the Alien mythology. Personally I do not like the retconning of the Xenomorphs into being recent creations. In my mind they are strongest when the implication is the wreck on LV426 is truly ancient, having sat for perhaps hundreds of thousands of years before Ripley's crew disturbed it. The suggestion they have only been around for less than a century take something away form their mystery and horror.

Like any good parasite, Ridley Scott is leaching the success of Fede Alvarez' Alien Romulus to finish his atrocious Prometheus trilogy of terribad. Too, your comment that "Disney actively listens to the fanbase and their opinions" is absolute rubbish. Too, Ridley Scott _never_ had _any_ IP rights to the Alien Franchise because he didn't create it!

I reckon the upcoming TV series (Alien: Earth) will be a great addition to the Alien universe. Written by Noah Hawley (Legion/Fargo), it takes place 2 years before the first Alien movie.

You lost me at "Disney actively listens to the fans". Quite literally the stupidest thing I've heard all week.
@johnterpack39403 күн бұрын
On the small scale, he's right. Rey ended up a Palpatine because "fans" demanded to know who her daddy was even though the first two films said it didn't matter. Snoke's origin, the source of Rey's "excessive" power, Kylo's redemption "arc", "Rey-Lo"... all of that stuff was all the various Star Wars KZbin channels talked about. Disney thought they'd make the most popular movie ever if they gave the "fans" everything they were screaming for. Turns out, you can't write a good movie via social media.

@@johnterpack3940 not because they listened to the fans. They didn't and then they lost money so they tried to pick up the pieces. Don't be such a mediocre

@@johnterpack3940The Force Awakens never said Reys parentage wasn't important, it actually set up that it was. The Last Jedi though decided it wasn't important, and the fan backlash was because that went contrary to TFA's setup. Rey at that point was so unpopular she needed something more than bland orphan wannabe jedi as a character, but they went out a choose the stupidest idea for what they could have done.

It'll absolutely be a letdown. Until they remove Scott entirely from the franchise, it'll be wedded to the crappy 'engineer' plot, which is basically a hammy 'Chariots of the Gods' type of gibberish.

You're not going to get Awakenings as it was envisioned in 2017. No chance, sorry. However, it does look like the next film will involve the Engineers and very likely David and Daniels. We need the loose ends from Prometheus and Covenant tied up. But I hope it's written better than all those prequels. I'd like some decent dialogue and characters who feel like real people and not mere plot devices.
