Great work Kev... You gotta love Sub-Div modelling. Nothing wrong with sculpting and re-top, but there is definitely something zen about extruding faces and moving topology.

You had me at Alien - - the whole process was interesting. Even to see what you decided not to do (as in the corners you 'cut' because you didn't need to). The Kane/leather reference is the tell that you are a fan.

I following two of your vids and plan to mash together a metroid flying face hugger lol. Can call my crazy but think that would be be freaking flying face huggers that could turn you dust or hatch more of their brood out of victims lol. I got my egg done looks great. 4:00 you can also merge two objects with the "F" key. it creates a new face then. maybe a little faster than merging

The eggs are actually a bit translucent. You can see it in the first movie in particular when the hugger is moving around inside it.

You’re right, I’d have loved to do that but rendering and time constraints... translucency needs real subsurface scattering and that takes real render time. These things are best done physically up close anyway. Thanks!

Thanks! That’s a great question, and in some alembic exporters there were check boxes for z vs y up. I don’t see it in the 3.0 Blender version. Sometimes I just reposition it manually. It’s usually pretty precise to flip.

Once you UV map (lots of videos on that if you’re new) you can bend the surface and the texture will stick. I have some very early in but those parts are in other videos.

I have seen james Cameron master class, I'm so pleased that class. Best bang for buck.... Or pirate it 😁😁and he himself explains every aspect of it like a true champ. I recommend you buy it. NB: and yes there is a video chapter which specifically breakdown Ripley confronting mother alien and her eggs.

@@KevBinge well that's what a great director wants, he's difficult to work with because people finds themselves lazy and being a celebrity diva or something. His duty is to show the world his work and he's ready to do it 100%, actors and production people are part of that puzzle, they are supposed to enhance the story. Well if we still thinks he's that hypocrite, may be Fletcher in the movie whiplash will do the honors for us ✌🏽

That’s true, she was really tall next to Rick in that film... I don’t know, I’ve been on sets so it’s difficult for me to gauge it and I’ve stopped trying until I meet them in real life. Kevin Nealon is super tall. I stood next to him and he was easily a head taller than me or more. Other people are surprisingly shorter than they look on film.

Your multi-package use is refreshing, instead of relying on a single package you work smarter since what matters is the end result. If someone simply learns that from your videos they have truly learned something valuable.

Thank you! I use lots of software and have almost never relied on just one. I live Blender and Houdini, but have used Maya, Lightwave, XSI, etc... over the years. Pretty much whatever the teams I’m on uses. It’s easier for me to adapt to a team than vice-versa lol.
