In Predator lore, the Predators in this movie are called Youngbloods, essentially teenage Predators who are there to hunt Xenomorphs in order to prove themselves. The Aliens are bred there exclusively for this purpose.

AVP is one of those films in a series you hear so many people complain about or hate, but always with trivial justification. It was never pitched to try to be an award-winning movie. Simple but straight plot, CGI and cinematography is dope as hell for action, and we get the monster mash that the cover promises. Rewatchability for me on this has always been up there with Aliens, Predator, and Prometheus. Just for different reasons

If you decide to watch the next AvP film called Requiem, then I recommend watching the extended version and put your TV settings on bright all the way for the dark fighting scenes. You can't see what's going on unless you adjust your brightness settings. Just fyi. -OG

These predators are Young Bloods. Basically Yautjas in training (Yautja is the name of their species) trying to earn their places into manhood. So the last one (The Scar Predator) basically was the only one who completed the mission but died after killing the queen Xenomorph with help of Sanaa Lathan's character. The first one that died is called The Chopper Predator. The second one was Celtic Predator. Chopper Predator's inexperience got him killed first. Celtic Predator's cockiness and reliance on his brute strength and not his training got him killed second. Scar Predator was the most tactical, cerebral, smartest one of the group. Only mistake was letting his guard down when the facehugger Xenomorph got him when he took his helmet off.

This movie actually came out on my birthday. Two things kinda kept it from being great, the Pg13 rating and it felt like the director was a bigger Alien fan than Predator fan. The first two Predators died way too soon imo. Being such a fan of the comics I was just let down a bit

Capturing an alien queen is extremely difficult and is considered an extremely powerful flex within the predator community. It will usually result in the Yautja (predator's real species) elder's council to let a warrior who does it to start their own clan. It's so honored because it allows youngling predators to test their skills and go through their initiation rites against her babies. Ending an alien queen is honored, but considerably less so than capturing one. P.S. It wasn't considered woke because she actually showed fear, vulnerability, strength, and bravery. A "woke" film would have a mary sue who doesn't have any flaws, showed no fear, and is better than men at everything for no f-in reason. She's probably the closest to Ripley that we've seen. She is a capable woman (with established credentials e.g. 7 seasons on the ice) who got thrown into a horrible situation and managed to come out on top.

Its a decent film. I always thought the critism of it was a little excessive. As for it being considered woke. It wasnt a thing back then. Nor would I consider it such now. A woke version would be inserting unneccessary changes for the sake of some groups representation. Having a strong female lead is no issue. Having a black lead is no issue. They had a female lead in the alien films already with Ripley. They had a black lead character in Blade and other strong black characters in other films. I can see why people would say Ripley is a better character in comparison since she handled and figured out how to survive mostly herself. This character mostly had everything explained to her as she went through. She also pretty much survived mostly by luck. She does have good intuition and a tough personality which is nice. She is also included in the comics so its not like her character was self inserted or changed for diversity as they do today. There was no call for it. So nobody cared that she was. It wasnt being forced upon viewers in film after film. Those trying to defend wokism usually dont understand what critics mean by a film being woke these days in the 1st place and make them out to be racist or homophobic or something. So I can see why it would get confusing. Critics back then would over analyze things to the point a decent film would come across bad or a decent film would be praised as great. The audience for the most part would agree with one side or the other. Some critics today do the same thing but mostly its in favor of the studios and certain programs interests rather than whether or not its actually a good film. Thats why some films today could be rated as great 9.7 out of 10 on rotten tomatos by these hired critics/journalists and the audience scores would be more like 3.7 out of ten. So the ways in which the critics have ruined films with their opinions has changed too. Like the reactor said it couldve been better but was a decent film. The 1st two predators died pretty quickly. Which is odd when you consider how superior they are to humans even in the fact these were new predator recruits being tested. In my opinion what made this film so bad in comparison to the others is the story and character growth holds it back from showing us the great action and suspence we expect in these films. It drags it out. Having both the predators and the aliens be a threat makes it confusing as to who you should be rooting for or fear. The humans just become a 3rd party which doesnt help our main protagnist any either. Seeing all the cool gadgets and the temple design was cool. Which is why it felt so lack luster that the predators barely were able to use them. Playing the alien vs predator game was more entertaining than the film in my opinion. I enjoyed the reaction but my suggestion is dont bring up unnecessary topics like wokism where it doesnt belong if you dont truly know what your talking about. If you dont like this advice feel free to ignore it. If not well you can feel free to banter too. I will just ignore it or defend my point of view. Everyone is entitled to speak their opinions. I wont try and cancel you.

look, watching this in theaters with my mom as a black girl and seeing a black woman be the main character, the "final" girl and survive was a win! usually, black characters in sci-fi/fantasy/horror films, rarely appear and if they do, they're background or supporting characters who are not surviving. if you typically saw a black character, it was usually a guy, rarely a black woman. seriously, check out a number of sci-fi/fantasy/horror films before avp released. to see sanaa lathan be the main and surviving character was huge, at least for me. i would be lying if i said that wasn't part of the reason why i enjoyed this film. i have no problem saying that.

Idk if someone already commented this but the Predators in this movie are youngbloods (noobs) and they went to the temple to try to complete their training. That's why they were getting killed off so fast. Especially without their shoulder gun.

The reason the first two Predators were killed, Chopper Predator and Celtic Predator, is because they are Young Bloods, meaning they have never fought an Alien in combat. If this would have been Amazon Predator from the 1987 Predator or the Concrete Predator from Predator 2, everyone would have been killed, especially the Grid Alien.

Obviously you put in work so it seems easy when you see the results but I bet alot of people would benefit from seeing how you raise your dogs and your routine.
