All Black Haka sucked because of Pakeha unwillingness to do it properly...Buck Shelford brought Mana to the Haka when he joined the all blacks and insisted on doing it correctly.

Those three boys are actually singing in Maori, as they are part Maori themselves. They were ages 8, 8 and 10 when they wrote it.

The lyrics: In 1820, the great Northern war chief Hongi Hika departed New Zealand for England. On his return, he brought with him the word of God and hundreds of muskets. Things would never be the same again ... He taua, He taua! - (A war party, a war party!) Waewae tapu takahi te ara taua - (Footsteps pound the sacred warpath) Ka hopungia e maha nga upoko - (Many heads are sought) Ka hopungia e maha taurekareka - (Many slaves are sought) E mahi nga mahi a Tūmatauenga - (This is the work of Tūmatauenga) Anei rā - (Behold) Te uhi o Mataora - (The chisel of Mataora) Pai tuarā - (The strong back) Te kokongapere - (The base of the spine) Nga rape - (The buttock spirals) Te kitemaimairu - (The thigh) Tatua taua - (The war belt) Nga tā moko puhoro - (The tattooed bodies of warriors) Anei nga tohu a Tūmatauenga - (These are the omens of war) He pakanga nunui mo te whakautu - (A mighty battle to avenge us) Tae mai nga tūpuna mo te whakaāwhina - (Our ancestors gather to assist us) Kia mau nga Tohunga mo te whakakarakia - (Our priests prepare the incantations) E mahi nga mahi a Tūmatauenga - (This is the work of Tūmatauenga) Anei rā - (Behold) Te uhi o Mataora - (The chisel of Mataora) Pai tuarā - (The strong back) Te kokongapere - (The base of the spine) Nga rape - (The buttock spirals) Te kitemaimairu - (The thigh) Tatua taua - (The war belt) Nga tā moko puhoro - (The tattooed bodies of warriors) Anei nga tohu a Tūmatauenga - (These are the omens of war) A Tūmatauenga x4 - (Of Tūmatauenga) Mahi nga mahi a Tūmatauenga x4 - (This is the work of Tūmatauenga) Whakatangi o nga pū, whakapatu nga taiaha - (The cry of guns, the blows of the taiaha) Te kikokiko rekareka ō aku hoariri - (The sweet flesh of our enemies) Nga umu whakakīa tātau kōpū ki te utu - (The ovens fill our bellies with revenge) E mahi nga mahi a Tūmatauenga - (This is the work of Tūmatauenga) Anei rā - (Behold) Te uhi o Mataora - (The chisel of Mataora) Pai tuarā - (The strong back) Te kokongapere - (The base of the spine) Nga rape - (The buttock spirals) Te kitemaimairu - (The thigh) Tatua taua - (The war belt) Nga tā moko puhoro - (The tattooed bodies of warriors) Anei nga tohu a Tūmatauenga - (These are the omens of war) Waewae tapu takahi te ara taua - (Footsteps pound the sacred warpath) Waewae tapu takahi te ara taua - (Footsteps pound the sacred warpath) Waewae tapu takahi te ara taua - (Footsteps pound the sacred warpath) Waewae tapu takahi te ara taua - (Footsteps pound the sacred warpath)

It's crack up cause he mentioned the haka from the 70s being pretty shit - and it was. But that's because it was done predominantly by Pakeha (non-Maori) in rugby matches. So, the odd and wacky haka he's talking about was shit because it wasn't a Maori directed haka. I challenge anyone not to be intimidated by even 10 big brown bois telling you they are gunna fuck you up and eat you in words that have been echoed for hundreds and hundreds of years

Fair comment to talk about the 70s rugby hakas which were a joke. But go back to the Maori battalion in WWII. When I was an 18 yr old in the 80s studying engineering the old bloke who I was training under told me story about these Māori's when he was a 18 yr old aircraft engineer, said when they ran out of ammunition, they did a Haka and charged the Germans. After that Rommel said if he had a battalion of Maori he would have won the desert campaign! Total respect man!!!

Yes, gentlemen..! Mauri descendents, doing a metal song, in Mauri, about the "last battle" of the indigenous Mauri tribes (before claiming the power, and then facing the grim reality of being turned on by their "ally" Great Britain). I think it's a brilliant bit of metal that, and simultaneously a beautiful homage to their roots and ancestors..! Having witnessed haka on a few occasions, at first it looks silly. However, upon realising that it's the veil of law and order that provides a false sense of security - facing this strange performance in a new light, knowing that your demise is what they are calling for, and that they will straight up drink your blood and eat you for the sake of disrespecting you even in death - I'm not sure I want to fight these mostly nude men in a slugfest. Honestly, I'd rather establish trade with them, if at all possible..! ^^'

@@A_Talented_Maori I appreciate that. The way I see it, it's an affront to get details about other peoples' heritage and values wrong - it can lead to false stereotypes, and even conflict. It's important to me, and so I take it pretty seriously, which is why I appreciate receiving constructive criticism (and being corrected) where it's required. Hey, thanks man. Likewise, a fine life to you too!

IN 1970S all blacks you seen were not Maori fighting for their people. The Maori language and culture were near eradicated. How many Maori were on the field, and of those who knew their own language, customs and traditions. These young men are bringing back their reo rangatira me nga puurakau. Kia kaha Aien weaponry...kia tupato tauiwi e kore koutou e tino mohio te whakapapa o ta tatou nei whakapapa.

1970s NZ was yet to rediscover Maori culture. It would be another 10 years before significant Maori movement into large urban areas populated by European New Zealanders. Also the ethnic makeup of national teams in the 1970s was not as diverse; hence the haka you're referring to seems to look faintly ridiculous. By the time of the professional era, NZ rugby bosses cottoned onto the idea of the haka as a way to brand the team and country. And hey presto - cultural appropriation was complete!

His talking about the beginnings of New Zealand rugby like in the 60s/70s when the indigenous people of New Zealand weren’t allowed to take part in rugby so when the rugby team full of white guys would do the haka it looked really pathetic and it’s true.

Yeah as a Māori I must say the 1970's haka was terrible. The pakeha (descendants of British settlers) felt the need to tailor it for some reason. Google pictures of the Māori battalion haka. The modern haka is more closer to the traditional one. Interesting that you think it's to intimidate the other side. I never thought of that perspective.
