That sprinting mechanic is not unique to this game; that's how you sprint in a lot of shooter games. I realize that everything else about the game sucks though

You mean schizophrenic? Yes I have dual personality disorder because I prefer my controls for looking up and down to resemble the way a flight simulator works. As I said in the video, it's just a personal nitpick, no need to get nasty.

I invert vertical when using an analog stick. It makes sense to me, as you actually tilt your own head back to look up and forward to look down. If there's a logic to horizontal inversion (beyond simply being used to it for whatever reason), I don't understand what it is.

I actually have very fond memories of the multiplayer in this game. Whether it was me kicking ass as both alien and marine in tdm, teaming up and playing the escape mode against other players, or trying to survive the rather hard hoard modes with friends. I'm glad I was able to experience it when I could, and I believe my experience alone was well worth the $60. I still haven't found another game that was quite as exhilarating.

Left Bumper/L1 as well as L3 are usually used for sprint. I would say left bumper is more common though. And usually you don't have to hold in L3,ex in dragon's dogma you click, character sprints till meter empties.

The game is actually part of the Aliens cannon. When I went to PAX East last year, I spoke to the developers. They had access to everything Aliens, and had to even read Prometheus script.

The scariest part of this game was when my tv broke and made a really loud sound in the beginning when I was tense because I thought it was a regular aliens game.... Now I known why the collectors edition for this game was only 20$ at a giant tiger... It was still worth it just for the statue

About the L3 to sprint: You click it only once and press forward. No need to hold down L3 at all.

Actually, tons of shooters nowadays have you press down the left analog stick for sprinting... in fact, Star Wars Battlefront II is one of my favorite video games of all-time and it has that same sprint function.

+Taylor Sorby there's a difference, on a decent FPS, you have to click the left analog to begin sprinting and stop moving or click the analog again to stop, on this game, you have to hold the analog down to sprint, which is actually pretty hard

Another Great review Chris. Being a little generous with a 4/10 though. By the way, i would like to see some more gameplay within the review. Furthermore, think that you will be disappointed with Metal Gear. It's simply not like the classic's except from the "alert" sound fx. I want strategy, puzzles, boss fights and more than anything, a story with good characters. Overall it feels more like DMC.

Agreed, i get the inverted up and down, especially on flying sims but when was inverted horizontal ever a thing? I've played games ever since the NES and C64 and i never had any game that had inverted horizontal.

I had a good deal of enjoyment with this game (Granted I paid $5.00 new). I loved the upgrading of the weapons. I loved finding the classic weapons. I enjoyed blasting the aliens, I even enjoyed my teammates. Now I did buy the add on that gave me the survival mode and that was a whole lot of fun to play. So in total I paid $20.00 bucks and had a great time. I did notice the technical shortcomings and the rushed feel in most areas. I also am well aware that they lied terribly about the graphics, but all in all in had a good time. Not worth $60, but definitely worth $20 if you get the survival mode as well.

TheSPIKEY419 I experienced no technical issues that caused the game to lock up, crash or break in any way whatsoever. I played from beginning to end without any issues that I can even recall. I played it on the PS3. I'm not sure how the 360 version is. You just have to go in knowing what to expect. It isn't a triple A game, but is a decent shooter made even more enjoyable by the fact it is based in the Aliens universe. I had a lot of fun finding the movie weapons. Not to mention you get to customize your weapons and there is an in game achievement system that is constantly reporting back your progress which is fun if you like that sort of thing. Game is cheap and if you don't like it, it won't be that big of a loss. I highly recommend giving it a try. Game got me in the mood to watch Aliens so I bought the Quadrilogy pack of movies. Good times. I don't regret playing the game one bit.

Do you have to keep holding it in, or is it like most games, where you click it once and then you can keep running? Because the second isn't a bother in my opinion. But I agree, holding L2, or in my case LB, works the best.

5:27 It's funny you mention the torch issue in the abysmal Colonial Marines. Isolation lets you control the torch, and you have to upgrade it from time to time. Another reason why Isolation is leagues better than Colonial Marines.

Aliens is one of my favorite movies ever and when this game was announced everybody who loved the movie including me was so excited for this game and u preordered the special edition and u got Ripley in the robot exoskeleton which was awesome and the game came out and....Everybody took the game out of their consoles or deleted it and went back and watched Aliens on Blu-Ray with the looks of sadness, anger, and confusion

Yeah man it's kick ass and depending on which Marine or predator class you facehugged you become that breed of alien ex. if you facehugged smartgun marine= Spitter alien, Predator hunter= Abomination alien. the funpart is bursting outta their chest manually. The BEST part about the game is that the predators are NOT completely overpowered.

I know this is an old video, and I'm not sure if you are now aware of this information, but unfortunately even the game developers themselves said that Aliens: Colonial Marines is an official sequel to the Aliens movie. Just like how Alien: Isolation bridges the time gap between Alien and Aliens.

Aliens vs Predator (2004) was fantastic. That game figuratively scared the shit out of me. It saddens me because I am such a fan of the Colonial Marines sub-franchise going back to reading the comics when I was a kid. I didn't buy the new Colonial Marines game, thankfully, but I really wish that someone releases an Aliens game that is better or as good as AvP(2004).

Guys, when I got my copy of this, around November of last year, the graphics were decent (not awesome) but better than Joe or Chris said. The xenomorphs had all the sounds and the game was actually dark and atmospheric. Maybe everyone got a bootleg copy and i got one of the good ones.? when my friend got the earliest copy of GTAV, it was super glitchy and there were missing things. If you find a NEW copy now, it will most likely be like my copy( fun to play) Well who know?

A lot of folks mention the AvP games and how they are better which is fair enough but if your like me and only really play games on console then choices are limited, Alien Trilogy was what made me get a Playstion way back when, when you mention Goldeneye on the N64, fond memories, there was something about gaming back then that just seemed better, more care in some of the products possibly.

I agree with everything except the whole pick up ammo thing. I like the idea that you have to be looking at smething in order to pick it up that makes it realistic. You have spot something before you can pick it up in real life unless you have Jedi mind tricks.

I understand that holding down L3 isn't practical on the ps3 because the stick is a dome, your thumbs easily slip off the stick, and the stick is all the way at the bottom of the controller and your thumbs hit each other. But if you played this game on XBOX 360 then it would have been a lot easier since the stick has better rubber, the stick isn't a dome, and it is not in a weird place.

One game that I was playing recently is Mafia 2, I think is an excelent game, with a good story and great characters. You should play, make a review maybe. (Note: It is NOT a sandbox game, has a story and chapters, yes you're free to go where you please when you're in the middle of a chapter, but If you die, you come back at the beggining of the chapter, no respawn at the near hospital.)

The inverted controls should be on the checklist for all games. My friends always tell me, "Dude, just play it this way," but seriously... It's so much more difficult for me to play a game without the inverted Y axis. More personal options = more playability for more people = more purchases. It's 2013... please, developers, please.

If it's click L3 once to sprint, then that happens with a LOT of FPS/TPS games today :D but if it's one of those "hold L3 and KEEP IT PRESSED DOWN WHILE PRESSING FORWARD TO RUN" things, then yeah that does suck.

I didn't have a lot of the glitching issues he's talking about. Maybe this was before the launch day patch? I enjoyed the game for the most part, the story left me wanting by the end. I didn't have any real issues with the controls except for the grenades / claymores. I played on recruit, because I am bad at aiming with thumb sticks, and I don't think I ever one shot an alien with the pump shotgun. I actually enjoyed the multiplayer, especially as an alien, aside from wall climbing issues.

I don't regret buying the collectors edition, lots of cool stuff with it. However the best part of the game was the multiplayer.
