@@GioAtero because it's adapted from a game that's not a schlocky action horror thing and turned exactly into that. Don't get me wrong, the Doom 2005 movie is still an okay watch... Just without the DOOM name. Check out the Doom review by Possum Reviews, you'll know. Let me make this clearer: this movie is more budget Resident Evil or Dead Space (keyword is budget) than Doom. Doom is about fearlessly running around with guns and hunting demons down in cold blood. That's not what this movie is. Furthermore, some people like to put down the argument that Doom games have no lore (as if this movie has a lot of lore that makes any sense in the first place). That's blatantly wrong. The last two Doom titles have enough lore both in visual and text form that you could write several books on them and still keep everything interesting
@GioAtero4 жыл бұрын
Retronite DOOM (2016) & DOOM: Eternal (2020) did not exist back in 2005, just DOOM 3 (2004), which was an action-horror title. I do not know why people narrow their acceptance, there is enough variety and quality for all, and the film is to date the best DOOM adaptation. If you want the filmic adaptation from the new virtual simulators; maybe you must take a look over DOOM: Annihilation (2019). It turned ugly! Worst than the one I love.

@@GioAtero I watched a review on D:A before I watched the first Doom movie so yeah I know about it. Both of the movies suffer from the same issue, I'll be honest. They made Doom seem more horror than badass. I'll let the first Doom movie get away because... Yeah Doom 3 was the latest installment of that time so it kinda made sense and the monster designs were fine (still doesn't excuse the lazy and cheesy writing and the fact that they replaced demons with scifi monsters). But if universal had learnt anything from that experience, they'd get the director who made Hardcore Henry and make a 2 hour long movie about killing hell spawned demons, and not fucking D: A

I will say one good thing about this movie - Karl Urban certainly looks the part for Doomguy. And to those who say this movie has nothing to do with the games, consider this: the backstory of the original Doom game involves Doomguy being sent to Mars as punishment for assaulting his commanding officer, who was killing innocent civilians. The end of this movie involves Karl Urban fighting his CO, who was killing innocent civilians. Now that doesn't necessarily make this a *good* movie, but it's an interesting connection.

There is a reason for The Rocks transformation. You were probably bored and missed the main plot point of the movie. They were performing super soldier experiments. Its similar to the Captain America serum from the comics. Add that to the list of stuff they copied. They modified it, but its essentially the same thing. It draws out what's inside of you. If you are good, (Carl's character) it turns you into a super human. If you are evil, (most of the space marines) it turns you into a monster. Also, the monsters are able to sense if you are evil. If you are evil, they infect you with their mutated suckers that basically has the serum in it. If you are good they try to kill you without infecting you. The Rock's character was infected by a creature early on and hid it from the others. That's the reason for his transformation; both mental and physical.

Yeah those fuckers had the audacity to make a plot on super soldier serums 10 years before the captain American movies. How fucking dare they? Or anyone else for that matter
@Barbayat798 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's always kind of weird if a reviewer complains about something when it's so obvious they didn't pay enough attention. That bit is so super obvious in the movie ... I also think they did a fairly good job with the characters, yes a lot of them had easy identifiable quirks, but you also had a lot of interactions between them that fleshed them out a bit. Like the Seargent, they introduced him fairly well, yeah it was shirtless scene but they gave him that tattoo for a reason, just like the instructions he got played into how he was affected. That explaination scene about the legs, well there was more to it, but I guess complaining about a tiny flashbacks is more important than paying attention to what is going on ...
@k9commander8 жыл бұрын
Ignorant Phuck I said COMICS not movie. Depends what comic you read. I don't think the original was a serum. Updated comics and related media (such as the 90's Spiderman cartoon) had it as a serum.

Dude that's exactly what I said, i've seen this movie multiple times through years and its pretty damn clear that chris wasn't even paying attention to the movie. This must be one of the worst movie reviews I've ever seen, I've watched this review TWICE and haven't found a VALID reason on why is as bad as he says it is, with his statements its pretty clear that he wasn't paying attention and some of them don't even make SENSE. I can write a whole essay on why this review is bad and another one on how this movie connects to the game pretty well, and you don't even need to overthink stuff in order to understand it you just need to know the games plot/universe and then watch this movie. This movie is definitely an above average film.

Who else would LOVE a well-made *Dead Space* movie? Simple premise, some originality in the plot, recreating the isolation, suspense and curb-stomping action on the Ishimura, Sam Raimi on necromorph effects, David Lynch directing? I don't know if I'd want *2-3* made as films though, maybe adapt the ending to this so it can be more conclusive without being left open for sequels? Now, the big question: *Who should play Isaac Clarke* (Gunner Wright, duh)*?* *#TwinkleTwinkleLittleStar* ⭐

@Justmyhandle8 жыл бұрын
doctor deepwater Not necessarily, depends on who's in charge. I know it's easy to assume the worst about game-based films, but some admittedly are better than others. Ridley Scott could do well if he understands the source material and listens to fan feedback. Necromorph effects alone would be terrifying if well-balanced between practical & CGI, I'd bet on Raimi to deliver any time. The story would focus on the best elements, prioritizing survival while lessening the Unitology subplot. The Ishimura itself would be the star (especially in the anti-gravity). And like I said, they can adapt the ending to solidly conclude Isaac's story. Maybe have a necromorph Nicole kill him on the escape ship after he destroys the Hive Mind? This would be similar to the game but with Nicole appearing physically. Isaac can find her body after the revelation that she'd killed herself and carry her aboard (they had a scene like this in the *Downfall* prequel).
@October666P8 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you have a good plan there, sir! Dead Space certainly has a solid plot that would make a pretty marvellous film, given the chance for greatness. On a side note, any good game-based movies to recommend me? Most of them I've seen are awful, so it'd be nice to get a few suggestions to change my perspective on it.
@Justmyhandle8 жыл бұрын
doctor deepwater There are no masterpieces, per say, but some have had decent to exceptional quality in terms of story, characters, or portraying the game lore. My top recommendations would probably be: *Wreck It Ralph* (technically not based upon a pre-existing property but still a game-focused movie that references several well) *Resident Evil: Degeneration* (cg animated) *RE: Damnation* (also cg) *Silent Hill* (good effort put into recreating enemies, effects and music from the game, plot is okay, AVOID the sequel at all costs) *RE: Apocalypse* (live-action, some cool fight scenes and Nemesis looks awesome).

1.) loved this movie. 2.) the real problems I had with this movie is the over kill on each character that died lmao like each death scene last like a minute. 3.) the movie actually had a lot to do with the games- as said in the comments already "Sneaking around while fighting demons is the antithesis of what Doom is all about", the "Hell" aspect of the film was that the virus that infected people chose its victims by reading there genetics (there soul) and choosing who was evil I=enough to infect. 4.) I find it incredibly badass when a movie takes a huge action star (the rock) and completely catches the audience by surprise by turning them into the bad guy and having the 2nd "action hero" (karl urban) take his place, that was risk and man did it work lol 5.) the moments where the movie catched classic stereotypes and pointed them out with hilarious forms was pure gold (the rock saying (I'm not supposed to die- BREAKING THE 3RD WALL LIKE THE HE KNOWS HES IN A MOVIE lol) wheel chair guy saying "oh theres something behind me isn't there" like fuck that's when someone gets fucked up and that's me" etc-etc. overall I liked the movie lol it wasn't superb but it was fun lol
