@@miller-joel haha, I remember as soon as we saw the milky fluid coming out of Bishop my Dad and I could not trust him one bit given what happened with Ash in Alien and his role being with the crew. So we were quite surprised he was helpful to Ripley and helped them get out of the colony and the planet, although I thought it was surprising given he was a WY synthetic they didn’t give him orders to retrieve the alien organisms and it was up to Burke to do it.

@@andrewburgemeister6684 The company didn't know about the aliens at that point. Whatever they knew 50 years earlier was buried and forgotten. Cameron subverted expectations the right way with Bishop. I'm sure people were unsure about him until the end. And even then, some freaks "theorized" Bishop got an egg from the nest and that's how it shows up in 3, but that's absurd for several reasons. Why go back for Ripley and Newt if he already has the egg? He could just let them die, instead of risking himself and the company's"precious." Not to mention, the queen cuts Bishop in half and he has no way to take that magic egg out of the drop ship and hide it somewhere on the Sulaco. But those freaks don't care about facts or logic.

Vasquez has those big sister vibes. In Cameron's original treatment, she was much meaner to Ripley, almost malicious even. In the movie, she has the "I only need to know one thing: where they are" interaction, but before then she looks concerned when asking the other marines about her, and spends the rest of the movie taking the situation quite seriously. She defies Gorman's orders so she can protect the others, but I low-key think by then Ripley had already convinced her the threat was real: she never puts another foot wrong with her the rest of the movie. I played a character similar to her in the Alien TTRPG, but went all in on my "big sibling" interpretation and made her very overprotective. There's a mechanic in the game where your character enters a panic state and must now take a very specific action until the panic somehow subsides: I made her panic action "stand still and keep firing until everything is dead" and played her as the perpetual "last one out." It was fun.

The crew in the first film were unprepared for a xenomorph because they were only miners. In Aliens the marines are fully aware of what to expect and are armed to the teeth. I don't think it takes away from the threat because even then the marines can't repel the hoards of aliens. BTW the crashed dropship didn't cause the nuclear processor station to explode, it was Vasquez and Drake with their smart guns that caused the processing station to explode. The drop ship explodes no-where near Hadley's Hope. Really enjoyed your discussion though, its my favourite film of all time. I know the film inside out! Dan O'Banion wanted to remake a newer version of the movie "IT , The terror from beyond space" except made it way different & added a million new ideas that have never been on screen or thought up before like the Aliens unique life cycle & James Cameron on the other hand sneakily stole his entire idea of Aliens from the movie "Them" !!!! He just didn't tell anyone 😂😂😂 If u watch both films u will see the similarities , especially in the movie "Them" Funny how one got his idea from a movie called "It" that's a about one monster & the other got his ideas from one called "Them" which is about several monsters 😂😂😂 Alien - It Aliens - Them Makes sense when u think about it !!! I wonder if that's how both of them both came up with the one word titles??? 🤔

Camerons Aliens isn't as perfectly crafted as Alien?? Have you seen how many times the No 57 pops up in the background?? If not, that's just a credit to James Cameron as a storyteller. Cameron is the Orson Welles of the action genre. But you guys apparently don't have as much respect for the action genre than the horror genre. Cameron spent a lot more time developing Sigourney Weavers Ellen Ripley. Aliens is literally more about Ripley getting second chances than anything. Alien survives solely on its look and feel. The characters are flat and uninteresting to Ridley. A suspense-laden film doesn't have as much as repeat value as a character driven adventure.
@raidersofthelostpodcast_4 ай бұрын
We literally called it a masterpiece maybe 12 times Luke. Movies are subjective. Chill out man, Jesus. Both films have the same “adventure”. They go to a remote planetoid and search it, encountering aliens. Then fight it. Literally same adventure.
@MarvynSyn9994 ай бұрын
Aliens, whilst indeed being a "Worthy Sequel" is definitely NOT a better film than ALIEN. Visually it's not even close. Especially now in 4k. Aliens looks cheap in parts, and the Xeno's looked like what they were: 6 foot guys in Wet-suits. The change in their look was unnecessary. Removing the dome smacked of a lower budget, and made them look less threatening IMO. Also Cameron made them FAR too easy to kill. In reality their Exo-skeletons NEVER would have shattered like dropping a brick on a Horned-Beetle (for example). Also the uneven acting skills are easy to spot amongst the Marines. A few feel straight out of a TV show. The Queen Alien is the most impressive part of Aliens, and she actually saves the movie IMO. She elevates the film along with Sigourney Weaver's portrayal of Ripley. But take the Queen away? 😬 The 3rd Act actually slows down to a crawl until her big reveal. Especially his "Forty miles of Bad Road Cut"...😴 Ridley Scott is miles ahead of Cameron in his Directorial Skills. I'll always take ALIEN over Aliens. Aliens appealed more to kids, and still does. Action over substance always does. PS: James Cameron himself is an insufferable PR*CK...
