"I've done a combined double degree in salad sandwiches and garden chairs".
Um, what?
The language that we use to talk about different degrees can be strange. Even when it's simple (like a Bachelor of Arts or an double degree in Business and Law), what does that actually mean.
And how do YOU know if you should be doing a single or a double degree?
In this video I'll explain what the different degree names are and how you can work out whether or not you should be doing a single or double degree at all.

Hey Thanks a lot for putting this video together. Incorporating the outback of Australia from a cattle station made much more interesting! (I really wasn't expecting it) And I feel more reassured with what pathways I want to continue with.

Currently in Yr 11 hoping to do a double degree in Business / Accounting with a major in marketing. Accounting is a good option for me (even though I find it a bit difficult), as it is one of the most crucial skills to have whether thats for employability or personal finance. It is also a stable career to fall back to if other ventures don't work out and it can make you money. You can also go into various non accounting careers with an accounting degree and sky is the limit with the amount of options you have. Marketing is also a passion I may look to advance in as it can hold a lot of career options with high pay, flexibility and great work life balance.

Hello! Before I ask my question, I just really want to say thank you so much for all these videos you've made on this channel. I think I appreciate it even more as an international student who has never been to Australia and can't go down there to visit and talk to the people at the campus :D. You've definitely played a huge role in my uni choices!! And I'm even more excited to go later this year :) I was wondering if I could ask you what your opinion is on double majors? I am planning to major in zoology but I'm also thinking of doing a 2nd major in either wildlife conservation or environmental science. But a lot of people have told me that I really need to think twice considering that the workload might be too heavy because id most probs be working part-time and I'm most definitely going to join a club or two :D. So, do you think it may be a good idea?

Hey Rob, i've recently started watching your videos and I just want to say thank you for the insightful videos! Now I have a dilemma, I'm in year 12 (vic) and am set on doing commerce (possibly with economics or finance as a double degree) However, in your personal opinion and possibly experience, would it be advisable to go to ANU for a fresh start or keep it local at Melbourne or Monash? Do you know if commerce at ANU is held to the same regard as it is from Melbourne or Monash? Thank you heaps! and keep on putting out amazing content!
@ChoosingYourUni

G'day! Good question. ANU really is one of the top top unis for economics. It's also got great linkages to the public sector and many of the businesses that provide services to Government. So if your goal is to work in the public service or one of those companies, that would be an advantage. Melbourne and Monash are both excellent unis too - you certainly aren't "downgrading" by choosing one of those. Funnily enough, I have a whole video on this decision ("Should you move away for uni?") that is queued up for November release. But I can see that it will really help you with your deliberation, so I'm shuffling some videos around and bringing that forward to next week for you. Stay tuned 👍

Hi Rob, would doing two general double degrees be good for someone who doesn't really know what they want to go into or just focus on a single degree like you mentioned in the video? I'm thinking of studying a Bachelor of arts/bachelor of science at ANU
@ChoosingYourUni
@ChoosingYourUni Жыл бұрын
I know that program at ANU and I think it’s a great program for what you’re suggesting - No UG program will give you as much breadth and flexibility to choose different things. You’ll never regret learning across such a wide range of areas imo - I’ve found that even things I studied at Uni that didn’t relate to my “career” have come in handy at some point: like meteorology to understand weather patterns when hiking, or music production which finally came in useful in video editing two decades later. Everything is valuable over the course of a lifetime.

Great video mate, year 12 nsw now in Sydney. Thinking of a financial or business type of degree but everything is too alike and doing early entry through uac seems like all the courses are pretty much the same to me. Opinions on UOW vs Sydney tech or maybe usyd or unsw. BTW great video I have liked and subscribed. 👍

Hi Justin, do you already have an idea about what you might want to do career-wise, or are you going to go with the flow and explore career ideas at Uni?

@@ChoosingYourUni Looking into the likeliness of a bachelor of business and a major in something economics or econometrics like. No clue in what to do after but I definitely want to pick up an internship and am interested in the domestic student culture in a university. Think you'd be bang on with just going with the flow and seeing where university takes me, making me want to be more sure that I can choose the right uni and the right course to take me on that path. Love to hear back from you and your experiences. Thanks mate!

Hey rob, love your videos. I am kinda confused between ms in construction project management/property management at UNSW vs ms in construction management at Deakin, Geelong waterfront campus. Which one would you recommend from employability prospective? I'll be coming as an international student
@ChoosingYourUni
@ChoosingYourUni Жыл бұрын
Thanks mate. Geelong is a small city. That has the advantage that the uni is an important part of the city. But there are also fewer construction-related opportunities compared with Sydney. I love Deakin as a uni, but few that for that industry being in one of the big cities where there are HEAPS of programs might be an advantage to you. So, if it were me, I’d probably look at UNSW as my first preference.

Hi Rob, very informative vid explained simply! I just had a few questions, i hope im not troubling you too much, but if you could answer, would be very helpful! I want to do 2 degrees one in illustration and one in creative writing and 2 minors, one in business admin and English language and literature, and I wanna know Can you choose 2 seperate degrees you want to double degree in or you can only do the dd's the uni offers? If I can choose: Should I do a double degree in the 2 degrees i want? And a double minor? Do you think these are all too similar, should I consider doing something else or is this quite unique? In general, or even for a job application? On last thing, im taking a minor in BA, mainly for personal knowledge, for that reason do you think studying a business admin minor is worth it? I hear a lot of ppl saying it's too general, but i also do think it teaches on multiple topics in finance, than focusing on one specific thing? Or would you say that though they teach on a variety, that the info they give is not adequate on each topic to make use of it? Again I hope its not too much, these are some questions im still stumped on 😅

Hello Rob, thanks for your video. I want to ask is UNSW bachelor of exercise science/master of physiotherapy and exercise physiology a good programme, as it is a new one. And is Australian Catholic University Brisbane Campus, University of Adelaide or University of South Australia better in physiotherapy aspect? Thank you so much.
@ChoosingYourUni
@ChoosingYourUni Жыл бұрын
Good choice to look at Exercise Phys - from my knowledge that's a more advanced program than exercise science so is more likely to open more doors. All of those programs are regulated by the National Board of the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). The main thing to check is that the degree you want to take is approved. You can do that here: www.ahpra.gov.au/Accreditation/Approved-Programs-of-Study.aspx That aside, each of these universities and cities has its own positives and negatives, depending on your individual preferences so "it depends" is kinda the answer to your question. But with a regulated degree, you're guaranteed that the course material and approach will be similar at each institution, even if the techniques and approached taught are slightly different.
