@TheMilk Trafficker " Even Colombia's own, Medellin, surpasses it." assravaged Paisa with inferiority complex detected. What you say is complete nonsense. Bogotá is much older than Medellin, it has a much larger and older historic centre, a much larger variety of architectural styles (you won't find the English styled houses of Teusaquillo anywhere else in Colombia). Any building in Bogotá is much more imposing that any Medellin building: The Congress House, Palacio de Nariño, Museo Nacional, all of the Salmona buildings, there are many more churches (and more varied), the Cementerio Nacional, the San Francisco palace, all the "claustros", the National University Campus, the Colón Theatre, and a long etcetera. Bogotá has just been a city for a much longer time and it's miles away more important and cosmopolitan. Bogota has one of the richest architectonic heritage in Latin America hands down.

I live in Bogotá and it is gratifying that foreigners speak so well of my city. Thank you Alina for your comments. Most people think of mountain destinations as small towns and living in one at the same altitude as Bogota, you can definitely notice a big city has a lot more going on. The temperatures will rarely exceed 90 in the summer and the nights will be around the 50s. Bogota is that happy medium though when one goes to Cartagena on the coast, it will hotter and more humid and December is probably the perfect time to swim in the Atlantic! Columbia is a lot like Miami the opposite of what people think of Buenos Aires being the Paris of South America. So much more to document and that couldn’t be put in one video. Went to Bogota in Oct of 2019. Had a BLAST! If you are into big metropolitan cities, check it out. Definitely go to the Gringo Tuesday party on Tuesday if you can! The city is so underrated, I think partly because the weather is NOT tropical, its more like fall weather in the US with bouts of rain, warm during the day cooler at night. If you're a tourist, just stick to the popular tourist areas, don't dress flashy, keep your phone picture taking to the main areas, carry your wallet in your front pocket.

People are more reserved than in other parts of Colombia in terms of making friends, but of course they're just being cautious. My favorite parts of the city are La Cinemateca (the local film theatre), DametuLengua in Chapinero for Language exchange and soo many events, Gato Gris (restaurant with live music), Plaza la Perseverancia, THEATRON, and just all of the fun pop up events all over the city!! It's so diverse and definitely not everyone's primary definition of "beauty" like Medellin, but it is so full of life and culture and you just never run out of things to do or places to explore!!

I worked in the Information Technology field during the 90's and I was fortunate to visit a number of Latin-American countries, some of my most unforgettable memories were in Colombia. Bogota was incredible, much bigger than I'd expected. Full of art, fashion, culture, history, opportunities, and unique experiences, Bogotá is a great city to visit, but if I had a choice I'd would live in Medellin, a fertile region famous for its coffee plantations and its flower farms, for its orchids and butterflies, it is known as the City of Eternal Spring for its idyllic climate, The people are incredibly welcoming, "Paisas" as the folks from Medellín and Antioquia are affectionately known are famously friendly people. It’s not unusual to feel welcome anywhere you go in Colombia, but in Medellín you get the sense that people genuinely are very happy to see you there. They’ll often smile at you in the street and even strike up random conversations (whether you speak Spanish or not). It gives the city a pleasant atmosphere and is another great reason to visit Medellin and Colombia in general. It's a tough choice to make Bogota or Medellin, if I ever have to move out of the US, I would most definitely consider Colombia as one of my choices. Cheers!

I am currently living in Medellin as I am engaged to a local Colombian girl. Let me know if you need a local guide upon arrival. Would love to show you around. PS: In Cartagena, make sure you go visit the islands of Mucura and Islote. They are a two hour boat ride away and are amazing. Look them up.

I'm Colombian from the coffee growing area. I've been living in Toronto for over 20 years and lived in Bogota for over 10 years. I loved this video. I visited Bogota a couple of months ago and climbed Monserrate ... I miss the city. Thank you.

the name is really similar to the one near barcelona: Montserrat; probably it comes from there :c
@william82362 жыл бұрын
@@alex_flyce Yes, the named is after the mountain with the same name that lies near to Barcelona, Spain. Spanish colonists were the first to settle in Colombia, so a lot of the culture is similar to Spain.

Hi Alina! Well done, well-crafted video that’s a fabulous introduction to the dynamic and colorful city of Bogotá! Visiting Colombia remains on my bucket list. As they entered their retirement years, my parents made several vacation excursion trips to Colombia from Montréal - and they LOVED it! Wish I could have traveled with them, but I was studying and living the cold life in Saskatoon.

Great video! I am currently in Varna and was checking out YT for places to see and came across your Bulgarian series. Then saw you are now in Bogota. I will be there in two weeks, visiting inlaws. Can’t wait to have ajiaco again. Also, if you like live music, check out Gaira Cafe. Amazing place for a night out!

im from Bogotá, and I love when Foreginers talk good things about the city, which one is in my opinion one of the most beautiful cities in South America, so.. thanks for that video, it was excellent 👍🏼👋🏼

I practically lived on aguapanela when I was in Colombia! I personally prefer it cold, and it's very refreshing on a hot day or after a tough sweaty hike at high altitude :-P Did you try lucuma ice cream? Lucuma is a fruit that has the texture of an avocado and the flavour of a yam and lucuma ice cream is delicious.

I have been to Bogotá ten times so far because my wife is from there, and I can say that you gave a very accurate representation of the city. Three recommendations I would make that you didn't mention would include the gold museum, the Botero museum (a very famous Colombian artist) and the salt cathedral.

Alina, just saw your new video. You are totally correct in that if you plan well and take the common sense precautions, you will be ok. Happy to see that you followed my recommendation on Juan Valdez. It is a chain, but for pure coffee such as americano or lattes and cappuccinos, it is very good. I noticed that you were drinking Club Colombia beer. I think it is very good. They also make a red and a black beer. The ajiaco looked great. Yes, you will get avocado and rice with your ajiaco. They blend ver well. You will enjoy Cartagena. Just stay watch out for the street hustlers. They are intense and do not respect the fact that you say “no” to them.

Alina, well done. About 20 years ago I visited Cartagena first time, and will never forget the experience. It was like a little Miami with historical center. Love that. Now, in 2016 I went back for some medical business, and I have to say ..., .. the city transformed ... , you will see

Colombia is much better now than when I first was there in the 1990s at the height of the drug wars. Still not Singapore, but much better for those that can take care of themselves.

Just came across this video! I took my first ever trip out of the North America back in April and it was to Bogota! I actually stayed in Chapinero as well and at one point while traveling around stayed in the Airbnb that is directly across the street from the view that you show when sitting at Casa Mama Luz! Super cool! I miss it so much!

Hello Alina, here in Bogota the city is divided into 20 locations, and it is true there are some less safe locations, for foreigners, and from experience I can say that in the countries where I have been this also happens, there are places in Brazil, which also do not They are not safe but this matter is worldwide, a hug and when you can, there are other cities that you can also visit in this beautiful country, a hug,
