In Poland, where I'm from, my grandma made this recipe with thin apple slices dipped inside the pancake. As a child I would get them sometimes on a Saturday lunch with confectioners sugar sprinkled on top instead of butter and maple syrup. I loved them with the apples. They were both sweet and a bit sour and crunchy.

@@nebulashine4600 don’t take this the wrong way, but are you new to KZbin or something? When you pay for youtube premium, you are getting to skip the ads that play before every video before it even starts. This does not mean that creators won’t get sponsors themselves, and do their own ad reads, since frankly KZbin doesn’t pay shit for views alone, need to rack up millions of views regularly to make a living off it. If you really really hate it you can skip it, which they have made particularly easy here by segmenting it out by recipe step, with the ad read having its own segment. Most creators won’t do that. Personally I’m happy to see it. Get that monay, Alison.

Great recipe! Re: "tasting baking soda flavor...", for me the culprit is the baking ~powder~ if it contains sodium aluminum phosphate / sodium aluminum sulfate (such as the Davis brand it looks like you used)... I grew up with that and could always taste a harsh metallic edge in muffins, cakes, biscuits etc it was used in. Switched to aluminum-free BP years ago and never looked back: no harsh metallic-chemical aftertaste anymore!

When I made the batter, I was initially concerned that it was too thin. But after making many AR recipes, I held faith and was rewarded with the perfect pancake. It's crunchy and light, cooked perfectly in coconut oil, giving a little subtle sweetness. The only change would be adding more salt or putting salted butter on them, but I love that sweet/salty combo from the syrup. Also, it makes a lot of pancakes, so I would halve the recipe for 4 people if I was serving protein sides like eggs or bacon. This recipe 100% changed my opinion on pancakes.
