I cried so much after watching this documentary. The Thai elites' cruelty has sickened me. I am really really sorry for the Rohingya people who escaped from the death in one end to suffer to death in another end. In the name of humanity, we all could have done better to protect them and I regret not doing enough myself. I am also sorry for Khun Paween and his family. I, as a Thai person, would like to say that Paween is the best police officer in the Thai police industry. After seeing the entirety of this documentary, I honestly don't know how to feel. Should I feel hopeful now that more people are aware of this? When I was a child, teacher told me that being a policeman (or even military soldier) is the proudest thing for society and nation in Thailand. For years I grew up, I've never seen any state officier who is fairly responsible for nation's justice like Praween. I hope that this documentary can lead to social reformation, especially law and humanity. Of course he will read this, the thai ego may be as fragile as an eggshell but that doesn't stop them from feasting on the praise of others. He knew the corruption in the police force and was never responsible for bringing the real thai mafia to justice. I'm one person who never beliefs in the police or the justice system in my country. Mr. Praween has proven to me that there was still a guy like him who fought for what was right but, sadly, the one who had power forced him to stop. Our country really needs a huge change.

One crucial piece of information missing in this report is that after Paween had decided to resign from the police force, he was sent an application to work for the palace by the Bureau of the Royal Household. That was the last straw for him. He realized that he needed to get out of the country quickly. Over the past decades, countless civilians as well as people in uniforms who had worked closely to the palace either mysteriously disappeared or died unexpectedly (and suspiciously). This information is found in his affidavit for asylum, but the reason 101 East didn't include it in the report is probably that they didn't want to stir up controversy relating to the Thai royal family that has already been scrutinized by the press all around the world. Bringing up the issues could also lead to the lèse-majesté charge against Paween even though he's thousands of miles away.

I feel sorry for what he faced and feel ashamed of myself that every tax money we paid goes supporting corrupted officers, which indirectly promotes human trafficking. It’s just heartbreaking to know this story. Thailand has lost so many great and talented people, since the day that Prayuth Chan Ocha has named to be PM of Thailand. It is obvious that the taproot of this country is “corruption”, not only in the police, military, and government but also in the eduction, monastic system, corporate, etc. A big chunk of money has been flowing around those people whose have money and power whether they were born with them or eventually climbed up there. It’s disgusting to share Oxygen with these greedy people. It’s disgusting to see the country that has plenty and quality resources to become like this. It’s terribly disgusting to learn that Thai elites and those extremely “privileged” people, who approx is 1% of Thai population have all money and power that could control the country as they desire. It is even more pathetic that some people know about this, yet they are still willing to serve them.

The documentary is brilliant but it didn’t include one of the controversial documents; the application to join the royal guard. Praveen was told to either relocate to the South of Thailand or join the royal guard. Both were meant to silence him from exposing more about human trafficking and its relation to the army. His denial to join the royal guard is believed to be the major cause for him to seek asylum in Australia. Another known fact is that the only army guy arrested died while in custody. Many believe the cause of his death was not natural.

Like many times before, and many more to come. Same old story in Thailand. The crooks rule a country, and they never seem to die or get punishment for the things they have done, but good men always have to run for their lives. I am so sick of this. I have dream for a change, and I sincerely believe that one day we Thais will have a better structure, the one that is fair and equally serve all Thais, for our future generations. I have hope and the hope is started from us.

I didn’t interpret his letter this way. He was offered 2 choices to be in the Royal guard or back to do the investigation job. He chose to remain being a policeman. He’s worried that the high ranking people may try to use this as his insult to the Royal and incriminating him.

@@miminmint he think he was tricked to choose remaining in investigation team rather than to being royal guard. At the end, it was confirmed that it has no such a choice. What he has done could only interpret as “rejection of royal request”, that could mean “112” sentence or even bring him to death. This is not my interpretation though. His essay say it very clearly.
