Those off beat hi hats in the intro are just incredible. Ever since hearing you do this on this song I’ve used it a lot throughout my playing. Such a great way to change the feel ever so slightly

Probably one of my top Alkaline Trio songs. Your drumming has been a huge inspiration for my own playing over the years, started when I was 14 (now 34) and always played along to Good Mourning and Destruction By Definition on my terrible Session Pro kit. Recently went through a similar journey when you took a step back from Alkaline Trio; I left my band of 10 years last year due to excess touring and mental health burnout. I left the band about a week after you posted, made me realise that mental health is more important so thank you ❤ It's amazing to get small snippets of the incredible career that you've had and can't wait to see what else you get up to! P.s any vids of you playing with Good Charlotte would be amazing

@mkfreelancefilm I'm flattered and humbled, thanks. I'm sorry to hear you had to leave your band but it sounds like you made the right decision - very relatable. I've been meaning to upload clips of me with Good Charlotte - I think everything I have is on KZbin already but you have to dig around I think they had 4 different drummers from 2004-2005. Here's one clip that came up in a search: kzbin.info/www/bejne/l6XMkqCpgs19hdk

Pretty sure I know from hearing it live so many times, but always had a niggling doubt that I could be wrong and have misheard it.. So are you able to please confirm if indeed Matt sneaks in the word "Fuggin" before he sings "Fatally yours" for the last time circa 2:38?

@tunesmith86 You heard correctly, He's been singing it that way for so long that I thought that's how it was written! Thanks for pointing it out.

The comment about This Addiction in the description reminded me of something. Both Matt and Dan did Vice "rate your records" interviews somewhere around LP8 release. I'd link the articles but I think KZbin would then autodelete this comment. What struck me as very interesting is how differently they both look back at This Addiction. Matt looks back at the time spent recording the album and said it was a blast and "debaucherous". Dan looks back a bit more at the album itself and thinks all the "debauchery" resulted in a swing and a miss of a record. I'd love to hear your retrospective take on the time recording This Addiction and what you think of the album nowadays. (I also think it'd be very cool if you did your own "rate your records"-like video)

@el.sant0 I think This Addiction was a pretty pure effort, back to basics - that being said, I was doing a lot of drugs and (ironically) developing a hardcore addiction which certainly colored the album. That's the last album I feel really good about though, in all honesty.

Correction, Damnesia is the last album I feel good about if that counts?

@@DerekGrantMusic I don't expect you to "sling shit" about bad experiences nor do I want to make uncomfortable, but I just want to reiterate that I would be fascinated to know why that is. If you can't tell, I live for these kind of inside-baseball details.

Damnesia was the last record I was fully present for. The last three albums were marred by various things including my addiction, my mental health or a combination of the two. This is just my perspective, Matt and Dan might regard them differently. Kind of a bummer story, I know and that's not to say that it was all bad times - there were great moments as well, but I wish certain things had gone a little differently.
