If i didn't have to eat and do stuff, i could happily sit and watch you play for the rest of time. Watching you reminds me of Bonham. Or McCartney. You make it look effortless and i watch and think i can totally do that. And then i sit down on my kit and its like ive never seen drums before. ;) Thank you for posting these. You have no idea how helpful it is.

@user-fc1jn7wh7j That's so nice of you say that, I'm flattered. I realized when I was 5 or 6 years old that playing drums made me feel better when I was sick or upset and it became a type of meditation for me. I'm never more relaxed and comfortable than when I'm playing drums on stage, even these last 5 or 6 years when I was struggling with my mental health. I'm glad you're enjoying the videos and finding them helpful, If you have any questions or just want to talk drums or music you can email my gmail account: drgmerchanddestroy - I'd be happy to help you (or anyone else reading this) in whatever way I can. Best of luck with everything!

I was a little meh on BHE's production initially but it really grew on me. A few of my fav Trio recordings production wise for drums in particular are Is This Thing Cursed, the 2020 EP and the BYO split with One Man Army. I think Cameron Webb is overall a great fit for Trio. Matt Allison always was too

@@dinnerwithcatsDG didn't play Porter or Felumlee's arrangements note for note back in the day either, so what's the big deal if Atom does something 3% different on the hi hat here and there or whatever? Drummers have that kind of license by divine right as far as I'm concerned, so long as they stay true to the core of the song. I knew there'd be at least one mouth breather trying to stir up some goofy ass "Derek vs Atom" shit

Did you record the album and Dave Grohls studio? If so, what was that like?
@DerekGrantMusic6 ай бұрын
@mot3824 Yes, we wrote the album and recorded drums and bass at 606. It's a great studio, we had recorded there once before but only for 1 or 2 days, it was really nice to spend a few weeks there for the latest album. Dave came in a few times while we were there, we'd crossed paths a few times over the years and were friendly with each other, but had more time to hang out in the studio. He was intrigued by my 28" kick drum and asked if he could try it out, it was pretty cool seeing him behind my kit.
@mot38246 ай бұрын
@@DerekGrantMusic he used your kit!! That's pretty sweet, anyway he could've been persuaded to cameo on the album? Aha and the other couple of days previously, what album were they from?
@DerekGrantMusic6 ай бұрын
@mot3824 We recorded a No Use For A Name song called "Straight From The Jacket" at 606 in 2013 I think? Chris Shiflett and I played lead guitar on it which was pretty cool, Suicide Machines did a european tour with NUFAN when Chris was in the band, so we have a lot of history - and I played with his older brother Scott in Face To Face here and there. Both great people, and incredible musicians.
@mot38246 ай бұрын
@@DerekGrantMusic maaaaaaaaaaaaan! That is so cool!!! You've had some amazing experiences, but is it hard to keep it professional and treat it like a job at times? I see trio in two weeks, first time where it's not you behind the kit. It's going to be weird!
