@kylemarvin4384 Aww shucks! John Bonham is my John Bonham, to even be mentioned in the same sentence as him is amazing. Thanks!

Still remember seeing the music video for this as a child and falling in love. Watched the DVD of you guys playing at the Metro in 2002 so many times after. Your skills are unmatched, Derek!

loving everything you’ve been so graciously sharing with the fans lately Derek! would love to see anything you might have from Halloween at the Metro or any stories you recall from the production/performance itself. hope you’re well, much love!

You’re the main reason why I put down the guitar for a couple years and became a drummer. Thank you for years of inspiration. I’m forever thankful for all that you’ve done and all things to come.

These tracks are great, and offer such unique glimpses and insight into history of a band (and instrument) I’ve loved since my formative years until now. I was really inspired when I first saw you in play in Glasgow circa 2005, and wondered if you ever had any drum magazine features written about your style/music, or if you were approached for that kind of thing? I used to buy Rhythm Magazine in the UK a lot, and the occasional modern drummer, but I never recalled seeing anything like that? It always struck me as odd given the popularity of the genre and your particular, quite distinctive style.

@duncankelso8325 I've never really been on the radar of drum-centric media and publications, but I didn't really do anything to promote myself in that world. I wish I had done more to rep the companies that sponsored me, build profiles on their websites, go to trade shows, etc. Rubbing elbows just wasn't my forte. However, I had a few moments in the spotlight, here's one: archive.org/details/modern-drummer-issue-311/page/n59/mode/2up and here's another: archive.org/details/modern-drummer-issue-381/page/n81/mode/1up Read it and weep! (I'm kidding)

@@DerekGrantMusic Thanks for the response man, tremendously appreciated. I have no idea how you manage to pluck all these links and facts out for those who enquire. I envy your organisation! Those articles are enlightening and for what it’s worth, my then 15 year old self would have found them even more invaluable than me today, particularly your influences and advice for younger players. I remember a very particular brand of dread and low self esteem that accompanied my chastening early recording experiences, wholly stemming from lack of experience with click! Furthermore, even if you feel you could have been more proactive on the sponsor/profile front, I’ve coveted a C&C kit since witnessing you playing one, and even if it’s now 19 years and counting since then, you can take direct credit for that sale whenever circumstances conspire favourably enough for it to finally go through!

Derek, do you remember anything about your kit setup on these tracks? The toms in particular sound incredible
@DerekGrantMusic5 ай бұрын
@dominicmurphy942 I said in another comment that it could have been my matte black C&C kit for the demos, but I think I have the timeline wrong - it would have been my black & red stripe sparkle C&C kit or Matt's blue/teal DW kit that he stored at our practice space. The C&C rack was 10x13 and the floor was probably 14x16 with a 24" kick - I think the DW had a 22" kick, 10x12 rack and 14x16 floor (although it might have been 16x18) I used it for the Bygones tour a few years back if you care to look for videos of it.

@@DerekGrantMusic thanks man. That's literally the first thing I did when I saw your other comment. Beautiful kit. I think the matt black was always my fave though.

Are you using a C&C kit for this recording?
@DerekGrantMusic5 ай бұрын
@lessthanthreebrad I can't recall, it was either my first C&C kit with the matte black finish or Matt's Blue/Teal DW kit which I brought out of retirement for the Bygones tour a few years back. Either way, the snare was most likely my old DW Edge from the Suicide Machines days.

@@DerekGrantMusic I've always loved how that snare sounded on "Switched On".
