I made the mistake of sharing Jackbox with my family and now every week, sometimes multiple times a week, I'm forced to partake in games with my little brothers. @paninisauce69497 ай бұрын
In my experience, mind I haven't played in a bit since mine is one who doesn't enjoy it, it comes down to group size and general skill. What typically happens is a group of 5/6 boots on and the aliens single out the least confident/weakest player. Hack spam them while throwing all but 1 alien under the bus, and either toss that person out with the bad player or get the good alien in the captain chair for the analysis chamber and they end up being the convincing factor. From the outside in, it seems easy to read, but you can almost never tell unless the good alien somehow gets sussed out which is very hard if they start dividing the hacks between others to add confusion. Overall, it relies on having a group that knows what they're doing, or a big enough group where there's not enough confusion to be spread very easily by hack spamming.

It would probably be decent if it wasn’t tied to a jackbox party pack. The awful lag, and the fact it’s completely different from all the other games and not really even a party game, make it the obvious last spot in any Jackbox ranking… honestly it would be awesome if some of the Jackbox devs got to branch out and make a game like Zeeple Dome that isn’t dependent on the Jackbox games server. I’m sure if Zeeple Dome was divorced from the party pack and able to play offline, it might have a small audience. Not me though, even with no lag i don’t think I’d enjoy it unfortunately! Honestly I’ve found that if your group decides to go 100% in on junktopia it’s one of the funniest games in the franchise. Everyone stands in front of the audience to present and the laughs always come from the insane delivery. Playing it on discord or twitch ruins it imo. My friends and I love it. We also occasionally use house rules, where for round 2, you HAVE to use the mandatory item, and have to choose another player to present for you like talking points- you can either have everyone choose whoever is to your left or right, or just do first come first serve, that way you can write your answer with someone else in mind. I encourage everyone to try it, it’s very fun!
@rickpgriffin7 ай бұрын
Junktopia resulted in some of the funniest stuff we did on stream. It works especially well if you have a dark sense of humor. Plus, the presentation phase isn't for everyone, so allowing the option to rely solely on the cards helps include more people

I’m not sure what games you play of Monster Seeking Monster (MSM) but I’d argue there’s a bunch of counters that make the zombie and mummy role less one sided. First, there are many roles that rely on rejection to get points. For example, the mom, who gets points for another player not getting dates. There’s the vengeful ghost that gets points if rejected which can make it hard to spread a curse to them. Also, the two faced creep HEAVILY relies on it two since their role’s main edge is rejecting and dating players and usually when this role is revealed it can make it hard for the player to date again. The ventriloquist also needs rejection as that’s their way of getting bonus points. Another point is the fact that some roles simply don’t want to date, whether it’s because they only want to date one person or multiple people. A a vengeful ghost who’s not getting dates may go more offensive, a body swapper may date one person and that person might not be infected, roles like the serial killer also try and clump up their dates which can isolate two people from infection/curse. If there’s any role that role that’s super overpowered it’s the leprechaun. The role gives people fake hearts, shooting them up to first, and thus revealing their monster before the leprechaun. Not only does it do that it GAINS points for causing players to drop in the ranks when the fake hearts are dropped. Usually this role gets revealed late game and can get a lot of hearts as a result (I’ve seen people gain 3). (I just wanted to get that off my chest think however you please)
@moshimeshowu7477 ай бұрын
The main problem with your reasoning is that the roles are random. If you're in a game with a zombie, you're not guaranteed to also have one of the roles be a not dating role.

i honestly think push the button is terrible because of one inclusion: hacks. aliens can just hack a player and make them incredibly suspicious, and the only defense is basically just "i got hacked." and if you're an alien, and you get sussed out for answering a question wrong, they can also just say "i was hacked." in my experience, it always turns it into nothing but a guessing game over who's lying on being hacked.
@KITTYMANYA6 ай бұрын
i disagree but i also understand on why you would dislike it for that. it's very much a game that sort of relies more on you trying to catch your friends slipping, and if youre not good at reading people, then it won't be any fun. because while there is hacks, they're limited, if you count how many times people claim to have been hacked, itll eventually be glaringly obvious that one of the people who claimed that lied, which narrows it down a little because you already know who's claimed it up until that point. I think it's also a game that works better with a big group because the hacks will never go above 3 iirc, so when youve got ten people and there was up to 4 people who claimed they were hacked, that would be 4 people you already have as suspects to pay attention to. even less if one person tried to claim it happened to them multiple times. so it does heavily rely on 'can you recognize when your friends lie' won't argue against how chaotic it can get though LOL my friends have definitely still ended up in loud arguments over whos lying. but im a weirdo that likes big fights when it's under the context of a silly game, it's cathartic to let that out and then go back to chilling after the game ends

As someone who's favorite Jackbox game is Roomerang, I was pretty disappointed to see it ranked so low. i really don't get how anyone can like push the button. from my experience, it's one of the worst social deduction games i've ever played. the concept is fun, but the game is just way too skewed in the alien's favour, to the point where i don't think the humans have ever won when we've played it. the number of hacks the aliens get is far too high, basically making any information you gather meaningless. there's really no way to tell if someone is getting all the prompts wrong because they're an alien, or because the aliens are just targeting them with hacks every round. and because the humans need to guess all of the aliens in one go, and only get one chance, it's pretty much just a tossup with no way to distinguish between aliens and heavily targeted humans. just a note on what you said in the video, about saying "i was hacked" being suspicious. this may be true, but if all of the aliens and 1 or 2 humans are all saying it repeatedly, then there really is no way to distinguish them, and because you need to get exactly the correct people, and you only get one shot, it's still basically a random shot in the dark to hope you vote out exactly the correct people.

push the button is so comically polarizing i cannot explain why i like it
@M4C3W16 ай бұрын
It sounds like the group you play with is too slow. U can speed thru the info gathering process and test every person several times, which pretty much weeds out all the hacks by the end.
@SNAKESSMANDONUT6 ай бұрын
I've had a few similar experiences. Once, I was one of the people chosen to do the Bioscanner task, and I failed because the person didn't know you had to talk. Suddenly, despite having a completely clean record earlier in the game, everyone thought I was an alien (I was a human).

We played a round where the aliens didn't use hacks at all, and the humans only BARELY won

This is an interesting video on your thoughts on all the Jackbox games. I respect your perspectives, but at the same time I feel like a lot of the people who like Survive the Internet (myself included) never really dealt with your first primary criticism of the game. 100% understandable, but I never had that problem in my social circles.

I really wish I had more people to more consistently play "push the button" with; its probably the Jackbox game with the biggest "I wish I played this more often" deficit in my mind. I will forever be a stan of Quiplash, which is my favorite Jackbox series. Every form of it, even with their flaws, just tickles a very special part of my brain. I love improv comedy, and while presentation games like Talking Points and Patently Stupid are fabulous for this, sometimes the shockingly succinct, 1 sentence responses to the prompts you're given can be infinitely more memorable and potent than an entire meandering presentation of improv. And Trivia Murder Party, I mean, you have to respect it. It is abundantly clear that it is one of the most polished, well made games in the franchise; great sound design, presentation, trivia, mini games, and the fact that the game can end in a variety of different ways makes it really fun too. It's pretty obvious that one of the main reasons why Trivia Murder Party is so many people's favorite game to play, is because it's obviously one of Jackbox's favorites too. And you can tell this, simply by how much effort went into the project.

I'd say that Survive the Internet, Roomerang, and Tee K.O. 2 should be much higher, Bomb Corp should be near the bottom, Weapons Drawn should be above Civic Doodle, and Poll Mine and Dodo Re Mi should not be near that high.
@masonplayz28206 ай бұрын
Roomerang has such a GOOD premise that wasn't taken advantage of. My problems with this game are that because you know exactly who wrote each answer, there’s more incentive to vote for the player that’s losing instead of the player who actually had the funniest answer. Also, towards the end, if you don’t have many points, it’s nearly impossible to win. I normally don't care about winning in a Jackbox game but I do in Roomerang because of how competitive it is. I also agree that Weapons Drawn should be higher. I think it's weird that Silok says it's "too easy to cheat", but that's never a problem for my group since we actually play fairly. I actually think I prefer Weapons Drawn over Poll Mine, but Poll Mine is incredibly well executed. I don't have any of the other games you mentioned so I can't say anything on them lol

I think what fascinates me most is that even games on the bottom of this list can still be extremely funny when played with the right friends. I watch Radio TV Solutions for this exact reason, and my first experience with Fixy Text and Word Spud was through them - both of which made hilarious results simply because their humor revolves around nonsense text and obscure references. It certainly does depend on who plays it and I find that super interesting

Interesting note as a British player - we found Guesspionage almost unplayable because of how reliant its questions were on American culture, a problem not many JB games have had since. Example from your video is questions about Walmart, which we just don't have. Hopefully they keep the trend of broader appeal going!
@theplumbum827 ай бұрын
Another British player here, definitely glad a lot of the later games have a filter that removes a lot of the USA-centric content. Even luckier, I have two groups, one is full of Europeans where I'm usually the host and the where I'm the only non-American in the group and they're still nice enough to turn on the toggle for me.

Australian here, had a LOT of similar issues. Oftentimes me and the rest of the group are guessing because we have no idea who the celebrity is, or a random American place or thing.

Never played these games, or even heard of them before this channel. I have basically no one to play games with, and a friend group of like, 3 people max. So while I'm not the target for this at all, it's still super cool to see the variety and incredible art styles at play, alongside the focus on communication and real-life interaction in a multiplayer setting. A lot of these feel like really fun Game Jam ideas that were actually expanded into proper projects.

At least two other people have said it already, but you might like Blood on the Clocktower. It's a social deduction game, in the same vein as werewolf/mafia, but everyone has a role. Clocktower, imo, does a great job of making sure that dead players are still just as involved as living ones, while still having consequences for death, both good and bad things can come of it-sometimes simultaneously-for both teams and it's a really fun time for everyone involved.

Great video. Nothing beats Bracketeering in my friend group. Ton of laughs and it's always a good time debating on which of the answers is the ultimate funniest. The mixed prompt rounds are the cherry on top. Definitely agree on Devils, the only game my group played which absolutely no one liked.

@ebobro21757 ай бұрын
Truth be told, fixy text is probably the hardest my friends and I have laughed while playing a jackbox game! I think the humor for me comes from the context in which the message we sent is! Half of my friends would try to follow the prompt, and the other half just types the most random malarky ever, and we get a message that might as well be a keyboard smash. I find it to be a butt-load of fun, but I can totally see why one would dislike it :)
@SNAKESSMANDONUT6 ай бұрын
Most people's main issue with FixyText is that is it basically a worse copy of Job Job, which was only 2 party packs earlier, and quite popular.

It seems like the reason brackets were added to TKO2 was the recency bias problem the first game had. The first shirt in the lineup had almost no chance of winning because it had to beat out every other shirt, but the last shirt is much more likely to win because it only has to win the vote once.

Some of your lowest ranking games are my absolute favourites! Weapons Drawn and Devil and the Details are some of the most fun I've had playing Jackbox. Weapons Drawn though you REALLY have to have the right group of people who are willing to play a practice round. But once you get into it, it's really fun and I really do love it. Plus, the music is probably my favourite of all the Jackbox games. I would say, even though you don't like those games, they should at least be above Hypnotorious. Because that game is pretty much unplayable because of how broken the mechanics are.

Hey, if you love Social Deduction games you should absolutely try Blood on the Clocktower. Its quite possibly the most balanced and enjoyable deduction game ive ever played (and ive been playing them my entire life now). One person needs to be the "storyteller" (gamemaster) tho which can be daunting to do if youve never played before, but this is honestly part of what makes it so great, because unlike games like TOS where evil might just lose out of a critically unlucky circumstance (sheriff picks them n1 for example), storyteller can reroute the game if that happens and try to balance things out with future shenanigans. Super fun in person or online!
@stoopidapples15967 ай бұрын
OH and also just like Push the Button, when you die you are still extremely relevant during the game! You get one ghost vote, and you still are allowed to talk to anyone and everyone, you just don't get your ability! Also there are 3 different scripts and a ton of custom scripts that means practically endless variety.

Push the Button has by FAR the largest variance of "fun" factor of any of the games. If you get a group of people who are all-in and decent actors, it is a hilarious thrill to play and can absolutely provide a near-perfect experience. In turn, it can become a horrible slog with just one or two people who don't get it/don't want to learn, aren't good at lying/pretending, or just aren't paying full attention for 20 minutes of a game. I would personally rank OG Tee KO as my all-time favorite, as someone who is Very Bad at art but has some super talented friends (which is a great variance to have honestly). I've literally bought shirts, which is what puts it over the top as such a unique experience that you can permanently have a piece of. Barely behind/tied is definitely Trivia Murder Mystery 2/TMM, which I agree with you are such enjoyable experiences whether you have trivia masterminds or people completely guessing.
