I totally agree with his comments on the passive tone stack for the clean channel. I played YEARS ago on a Fender Bandmaster (guitar head), although under-powered (i think 50 watts), I received tons of compliments for my Geezer sabbathy kind of sound...Fortunately or unfortunately, that was the only sound that EQ offered up. These days, I am unable to lift heavy heads but still desire that warmth...This head seems to offer more in regards to having a second tube for added gain, effects, eq...Add to that the capability to blend two channels along with a foot switch, & the active tone stack....To my knowledge, the only Hybrids in the running with the Bassman 800 is the GK fusion 500S and the Orange terror....These amps have more then one pre-amp tube and they are used for a reason, not a gimmick like many amps currently on the market.

Thanks for the Demo, been on the fence on a couple of Bass heads and had not even been considering a Bassman but really peaked my interest this thing sounds amazing and has just the right amount of controls without needing a masters degree to figure it all out, the funk at then end just totally sold me with all the possible combinations of tone, as always thank you for such a great video

I have the Bassman 500. These hybrid amps are the best of both worlds really. Nice and light, with a lot of power. The tube preamp gives it those warm tones. You have that tube distortion that is blendable. Sounds really good when you dial in the right amount. The 500 can already go extremely loud. I use it for larger gigs, The Bassman 800 will be even louder. I have some samples on my channel if anyone is interested. The DI is one of the best I've heard so far when it is switched to post EQ. The DI of Bassman 100T sounds the best because of the power tubes in the signal.. but that one costs $1100 more.

I had the 500 for about a year. Functionally it's a fine amp and it sounded great. Loads more tonal options than I could use and plenty of power. It's full form factor was good too. A lot of the very small heads like the TH350 looked incongruous and needed to be taped down onto the cab. The big weakness though was in the protection circuitry. I had two failures within about 6 months - it simply failed to power up. Repaired under waranty but after the second failure, BAX music sent me a different unit but sadly it also failed after a couple of months. I was very lucky that BAX agreed to take it back and gave me an alternative product (GK RB700) instead. There's evidence on places like Talkbass that it's not an uncommon fault. Fender UK refused to acknowledge a problem. Perhaps this design defect is fixed now but I wouldn't risk buying one Just for balance, though, Ampeg Portaflex heads were exhibiting similar problems. Whistlebinkies Rock bar in Edinburgh used to keep a stock of them just in case

Sorry to hear that, I have the Bassman 500 too, I bought it in 2017 and has seen a lot of gigs. It still works great. I also own the Bassman 100t. That one has had a lot of issues. Automatic Bias for the tubes keeps failing and the volume drops suddenly. That one is an all tube head though. I always thought you can't go wrong with the Hybrid heads like these in the video but your story is very different. It seems there are lemons between those too unfortunately.

It’s really just a darkglass pedal with power. So, basically you have no difference between the pedal in front of a Class D amp set all the way flat and the overpriced 900 watt power amp.

does anyone agree with me when I say the Bassman 800 and other "blackface-esque" models look like the grille of an old Chevy Gasser or something classic like that. I couldn't tell you where to start for reference, but an old Chevy 150/Bel-Air Gasser comes to mind for me.

I want to love the orange terror bass as I’ve always loved orange, but man this is just so much more usable in every way. I don’t know why tube preamps and class d power has kinda started to lose popularity, but it needs to come back - none of the class D amps I’ve played with come remotely close

This brings me back to when I would jam the hell outta my Fender Bassman Ten! Underrated bass amp that I should have never gotten rid of, but you don't know the mistakes you make until hindsight hits ya in the face. This review couldn't have come at a better time because I'm in the middle of figuring out what my budget should be, how many watts I really need, all that jazz for an upstarting band that's going to play small to medium sized gigs. I'm sure I can get the job done with an amp head and cab for the price of the Bassman 800 on the used market, but I love how this amp sounds. Any advice and help is strongly appreciated. :)

I have never heard of these before and they are just what I'm looking for in an upgraded amp rig. Clean and dirty tones, simple eq but with some extra bass and treble control, and not a stupid amount of money while also having tube amp flavor. I'd love to get one but they only have the 800 in production and I want to stick with a 500 watt. Unfortunately those 500's aren't on the used market so I'm not sure what to do about that. It sucks because I have an old 100 watt bassman that sounds great on bass but doesn't that that 300 to 500 watt headroom/output I want for a big, mean, rock/metal bassrig.

What I like about the overdrive is that you can dial it in rather 'subtle'. A lot of overdrive pedals (the once I experienced at least, there are probably exceptions) go from nothing to 'in-your-face-dirt-who-needs-bottom-end-anyway' with not a lot in between. @andertons, @thecaptain, or any other involved in the production. In the bass videos is there any post-processing like compression* or is it the pure DI-signal we hear? *Besides the compression youtube itself does.

But it was heavy to lug about all the time etc. I still have my bassman 410 cab… will this 800 full the void of the 100T or do I need to get on eBay? Also. Is the 800 louder than the 100T… baring in mind this is 100W of tube remember.
