Now, why do the Japanese markings make more sense...
@DrPlonk3 ай бұрын
Thats what I don't get. The japanese have easy to recognize markings. Why do we still have those stupid stars?
@BIBI318473 ай бұрын
@@DrPlonk in my opinion the stars are nice, maybe it’s a little childish but I like them

Hard to explain but when i was 6-7 years old collecting cards, i knew instinctively what the symbols meant because better card had cooler symbols but i don't think i would've figured it out if it was letters, nor my parents. Especially that i'm french and all cards were in english cause im canadian lol
@raventhorX3 ай бұрын
probably due to regional differences i figure. Like if the English cards were distributed in different countries other than the united states their demographics would have people of various different languages so using English letters might have been confusing for one demographics but super simple for another while in Japan is vastly Japanese speakers, which i think is still an odd choice to use English letters but if that's what makes it easier for them to catch on then i suppose it makes sense.
@Pack_Da_Rippa3 ай бұрын
I have been saying that too, I don't understand why the English set doesn't even use English letters, but the Japanese versions does? the English Japanese rarity symbols make much more sense, easily readable, and easier to follow the rarity in low to high.

Thanks for explaining this. Very straight forward and clear to follow!

Also importantly, you're only allowed to have one Ace Spec card per deck
@Nedfive5 ай бұрын
I love how the video is laid out and edited when you talk about them and showing where they are in the pack. Its reslly helpful. Also it's not that important, but something to also note is that for SIRs, they will only ever be either an ex pokemon or a trainer.
@LetLiveEverything3 ай бұрын
I'm always mesmerized by the shiny magenta color of the Ace Spec cards. I enjoy seeing them gleaming in the pack. Sometimes no matter how hard you try not to spoil it for yourself, the pink can't help but make itself obvious.
@lagomorphaexe857919 күн бұрын
What I've discovered works pretty well is turning the booster pack upside down when taking the cards out so you cannot see any of them (beyond maybe the topmost one). Then you can take cards from the bottom of the stack to go in (roughly) increasing order of rarity, while still being unspoiled for the remaining cards..

Nice overview! I’ve been trying to document older rarities in Japanese and there are quite a few undocumented. For example, Old shining cards would get a "★★★" rarity but there’s no official name for it and some sites just call it a “Holo rare”

With the new sets and the large amount of commons and uncommons compared to rares it feels like the rares are actually the most common cards. As an example Twilight Masquerade has 76 commons, 55 uncommons and only 16 rares. Sometimes you won't even pull every single common and uncommon when opening a whole booster box.

That last statement was technically wrong actually. In prize pack series 3 (and possibly 4) you are able to pull a lucario ex and an ampharos ex with a play stamp. These cards came around in ex battle decks meaning they still have the promo symbol. So yes you can technicaly pull a promo from a booster pack

Thank you for including the Japanese card explanations! I live in Japan and just started TCG, and its hard to find explanations online cause English cards are so different
@RGC_animation2 ай бұрын
In older cards (any card before Scarlet and Violet), there was only 4 rarities (5 including Promos), and anything above a Rare would be an Ultra Rare marked with a shining white star, so it was much harder to know how good of a card you got by simply looking at the rarity. I think this system of more layered rarity is better, but the Japanese ones still make more sense.
@cardboardnerd3 ай бұрын
Really well done. Thank you for making this. I kinda wish we used the letter system like japan. I think it makes more sense abbreviated. Kind of funny we use to use charactures and icons in English and japan uses English alpha letters across the board.

great video for beginners to the TCG, but it’s still missing some information; mainly the differences in the rarity system of sets before the Scarlet & Violet era. another thing to note is the difference between Basic Energy cards and Special Energy cards. unlike Basic Energy cards, Special Energy cards always have a rarity attached to them and are usually Uncommon. hopefully I don’t come off as overly pedantic here lol, I’m just passionate about this game and want to inform others too. if anyone has any other questions, feel free to let me know!
