Hard to explain but when i was 6-7 years old collecting cards, i knew instinctively what the symbols meant because better card had cooler symbols but i don't think i would've figured it out if it was letters, nor my parents. Especially that i'm french and all cards were in english cause im canadian lol
@raventhorXАй бұрын
probably due to regional differences i figure. Like if the English cards were distributed in different countries other than the united states their demographics would have people of various different languages so using English letters might have been confusing for one demographics but super simple for another while in Japan is vastly Japanese speakers, which i think is still an odd choice to use English letters but if that's what makes it easier for them to catch on then i suppose it makes sense.
@Pack_Da_RippaАй бұрын
I have been saying that too, I don't understand why the English set doesn't even use English letters, but the Japanese versions does? the English Japanese rarity symbols make much more sense, easily readable, and easier to follow the rarity in low to high.

With the new sets and the large amount of commons and uncommons compared to rares it feels like the rares are actually the most common cards. As an example Twilight Masquerade has 76 commons, 55 uncommons and only 16 rares. Sometimes you won't even pull every single common and uncommon when opening a whole booster box.

That last statement was technically wrong actually. In prize pack series 3 (and possibly 4) you are able to pull a lucario ex and an ampharos ex with a play stamp. These cards came around in ex battle decks meaning they still have the promo symbol. So yes you can technicaly pull a promo from a booster pack

In older cards (any card before Scarlet and Violet), there was only 4 rarities (5 including Promos), and anything above a Rare would be an Ultra Rare marked with a shining white star, so it was much harder to know how good of a card you got by simply looking at the rarity. I think this system of more layered rarity is better, but the Japanese ones still make more sense.

As a collector from the 90’s to early 2000’s, collecting rare Pokémon cards was a lot easier than it is in today’s market. Since coming back to collecting which rarity cards are best to collect that will maintain its value in the future?
@sleevenocardbehind2 ай бұрын
It’s always changing but right now everyone wants the Special Illustration Rares (SIRs). They have the highest market value. In the Sword & Shield era, it was all about Alternate Arts and they are pretty expensive to collect now, even though it’s only been a couple years

great video for beginners to the TCG, but it’s still missing some information; mainly the differences in the rarity system of sets before the Scarlet & Violet era. another thing to note is the difference between Basic Energy cards and Special Energy cards. unlike Basic Energy cards, Special Energy cards always have a rarity attached to them and are usually Uncommon. hopefully I don’t come off as overly pedantic here lol, I’m just passionate about this game and want to inform others too. if anyone has any other questions, feel free to let me know!

so since this is a month old does this mean they completely changed up the rarity system? I remember people in my state referring to some types of rares as different names. I think the term "rainbow rare" was dropped as well but i don't remember the rest. If the rarity system has changed do you think you can do a video on how the rarities have changed over the years? I also might be confusing the rainbow rare thing with another card game i tried to get into as well called flesh and blood.
