Edward Perronet, an early Methodist and later independent minister, wrote one of the great praise hymns of all time. His original 8 verses are filled with biblical imagery that "crown Him Lord of All"! Explore the history of this hymn and an exposition of the words, and then sing it with me.

LYRICS:
1 All hail the pow'r of Jesu's name!
Let Angels prostrate fall:
Bring forth the royal diadem,
To crown Him Lord of All.
2 Let high-born Seraphs tune the lyre,
And, as they tune it, fall
Before his face who tunes their choir,
And crown Him Lord of All.
3 Crown Him, ye morning stars of light,
Who fix'd this floating ball;
Now hail the strength of Israel's might,
And crown Him Lord of All
4 Crown Him, ye martyrs of your God,
Who from His altar call,
Extol the stem of Jesse's rod,
And crown Him Lord of All.
5 Ye seed of Israel's chosen race,
Ye ransom'd of the fall,
Hail Him who saves you by his grace,
And crown Him Lord of All.
6 Hail Him, ye heirs of David's line,
Whom David Lord did call;
The God incarnate, Man divine,
And crown Him Lord of All.
7 Sinners, whose love can ne'er forget,
The wormwood and the gall,
Go spread your trophies at his feet,
And crown Him Lord of All.
8 Let every tribe, and every tongue,
That hear the Saviour's call
Now shout in universal song,
The crowned Lord of All.

Years ago I was Blessed to attend a "Promise Keepers” men’s conference in Indianapolis, Indiana USA. They opened the conference with this Wonderful Song. Many years later I can still feel the Power and effect of this song being sung by approx. sixty to sixty five thousand men and their sons in a football stadium with a closed roof. I thought that the top of the stadium was going to be blown off the building. It left a standing effect as to The POWERE OF JESUS NAME. Just found your channel and subscribed, wanted to Thank You for doing this for us all to hear, and be reminded of the song we sang through out our lives here in the USA. My dad was a Baptist Preacher for 48 yrs. till JESUS called him home. Again Thank You and May GOD RICHLY BLESS YOUR MINISTRY 🙏🙏🙏

Growing up in the Baptist Church, we sang this quite often. I appreciate hearing the history and all the verses. This hymn declares that Jesus is the Name above all Names, and He is King and Lord of all! He is so worthy!

Loved the line "stem of Jesse" - Jesus is the shoot from the dead stump of Jesse's family, but this recognizes Him as the strong STEM - the whole new TREE of the worldwide family of God. Certainly deserving of our worship.

We sang this one to several tunes when I was growing up in the Baptist church, but mostly the first version you played. Our words were a bit different, though. My favorite verse goes, "Let every kindred, every tribe on this celestial ball To Him all majesty ascribe and crown Him Lord of all." Whenever I sing it I can't help but think of my brothers and sisters in Christ in countries all over the world who are praising Him too.

I love this hymn which in my experience is sung in both Presbyterian and some Lutheran churches. The most interesting image to me is seeing us(Christ's church and bride ) literally as the crown of Jesus placed upon our Saviors;s head while crowning HIm literally Lord of All. The history is very interesting as is hearing both the American and UK version of the hymn.
