ALL LAPTOPS: DISPLAY NOT COMING ON? BLACK or BLANK SCREEN, DIM DISPLAY?

One of these 3 easy steps should fix 90% of your display problems on your laptop that will not turn on.
1) Discharge Static 100%- You need to completely discharge the static 100% to get it up and running. Many of you did not deplete all the static. Do this... 30, 1, 2 method. Eject the battery, and unplug your AC power cord from your laptop. Hold your power button down for 30 seconds, then let go, plug the AC back in and power up the laptop. If no go, do it for 1 minute, then 2 minute the same exact steps.
2) One of your RAM sticks is faulty. Try taking one out, switching ram slots, use an extra ram laying around if you have one. Every time you rearrange the RAM start the computer back up to see if you display is back up and running like it was brand new.
3) Hook your laptop up to an external monitor or HDTV. Look at your laptop, do you have a VGA or HDMI port? Then hook that up to an external monitor or HDTV. You may have to press F8 to sync them. Look up your laptop monitor some are F3, F10, etc
Note: If you see your display on your external monitor or HDTV you issue is most likely an easy fix but you need to crack your laptop open-- you need to place your inverter backlight.

For people with batteries that can't be removed: 1. Try plugging out the charging cable. 2. Hold the power button until the laptop completely shuts down. 3. Leave it like that for ~2 minutes. 4. Plug the charging cable back in and start your laptop. This worked for me. Like the comment if it worked for you too so others can see it. EDIT: 7 months later it happened again and I think I know why. When I started my laptop I plugged in the cable while it was starting. DO NOT DO THIS. This is one of the causes of why this happens. There can be other causes though of which I am not familiar with.

It's not "static", it's residual power held (stored) in the capacitors. It's called "Power Flee" by the manufacturers. This process works with a LOT of different electronics that have a routine running. What happens, the routine gets stuck in a sequence and there is residual power in the circuit that holds it in that state. Pressing and holding the power button for a length of time, (anywhere between 5 seconds and 5 minutes!), drains the capacitors, therefore removing any power holding the routine in it's present state, resets the routine to it's initial state so the equipment can run properly. Nice quick diagnostic process video, to the point and short! Nice job WorldofTech!
