I kinda regret my septum piercing. Not because I don’t like it anymore, but because everyone has one now. I got my septum done in 2006. I was underage, and I got a fake ID so I could get the piercing. Back then, it wasn’t a socially acceptable piercing, and definitely not for women. In fact, I don’t think I’d ever seen one in person at the time. I got made fun of a lot, my mother cried, my father didn’t speak to me for about a week. That’s how unacceptable a septum piercing was just 18 years ago. Idk what changed in about 10 years time, but by around 2015/2016, suddenly it’s perfectly socially acceptable, and everyone has one, even “normal” people. I never thought I’d see the day. It’s just strange to see the change. When you made a decision to be a part of counterculture, and you get used to the discrimination that comes with that based on nothing but your appearance, then the same people who used to make fun of you end up having the same piercing themselves, it makes you feel some type of way. I’d be lying if I said that it doesn’t feel like appropriation of a certain “aesthetic”. It’s kind of like how a lot of teenagers today don’t understand why it’s weird to wear a band shirt if you don’t listen that music. By all means, wear what you want, but why are you essentially advertising something you know nothing about? There was a time when it was possible to meet like-minded people with similar interests and strike up a conversation based on the fact that you knew what kind of music they liked based on what band shirt they’re wearing. It was nice to be able to find that common ground in a world where you’re seen as “weird” by most people. You can’t do that anymore, because a lot of people who wear band shirts apparently “just like the shirt”. They consider it “gatekeeping” if you think it’s weird to wear an artist’s merch when you don’t like the artist. I’ll never understand it.

I absolutely agree with all of this!! My parents didn’t like my septum piercing, and I got it in 2017.. but that’s just their generational biased I guess haha. Band shirts also used to be only sold at shoes etc but now you can just buy them anywhere, and anyone wears them and it’s like…?? 😅

that way of thinking is not what we need in the community. you’re essentially turning on us how others turned on you. I feel like it should be obvious that teenagers in 2006 are not the original people to get septum piercings. you did not invent it. you can’t and don’t own the piercing. not only that but it’s not your business how someone chooses to express themselves. just because you expressed yourself with a septum piercing, it doesn’t exclude someone else from doing the same. but let’s say someone looked at you specifically (because apparently everything is about you) or maybe someone else from your generation who also had a septum piercing and they were inspired to get the piercing themselves. tell me what is wrong with that? chances are they may not keep the piercing for long or they’ll change the jewellery so it’s not like they’ll be a direct copy. but even if they were, our faces are all different which makes our piercings all different. calling it appropriation of an aesthetic?? once again, the aesthetic doesn’t stop with your generation. you are not the end all to being alternative. not only that but this same logic could be applied to all piercings which makes it more ridiculous. if you have your lobes pierced, you’re appropriating the aesthetic of the elderly women before you who were the first to get their lobes pierced? if you regret your piercing just because it’s no longer as unique as it was before then by all means remove it. no one is forcing you to keep it. clearly the only thing interesting about you were your piercings and now you don’t have that anymore. that’s what I’m getting from that. lastly, I’m pretty sure better/more jewellery, safer piercings and everything in between is why more people have decided to get pierced, not because it’s the hot new thing. your band shirt point is just as ridiculous too. nothing wrong with enjoying the artwork on the shirt, even if that artwork is the band’s logo/name. if you like the band’s music, that doesn’t make you any better than that person who just wears their shirt. now if the shirt they were wearing was limited edition merch and you didn’t get a chance to buy it then I could understand some frustration on seeing someone else wear it who doesn’t care for the band but at the end of the day, people have free will and wearing that shirt isn’t harming anyone.

@@SpiritualAmethyst what about a custom industrial piercing? Do you recommend any piercings you have for guys too
@SpiritualAmethyst8 ай бұрын
@@Inrussian think it might be too much in my ears personally but I do love a really well done custom industrial! I think they’re so cool! Honestly a rook piercing or a conch piercing is pretty unisex, although I’ve had issues healing both… so I’d suggest a tragus piercing! It was a guy actually that had this piercing, that inspired me to want to get it :)

I think on each side 2 nostril piercing + the high nostrils will look absolutely fantastic (your beautiful nose is just so great for piercing) + I think it will absolutely blend fantastic with your angel bites 🥰
