I think I have the same quantity of unread books on my shelf too. Let’s do this 💪🏻 … right after I finish a list of Libby library holds that just came to me all at the same time for March. Haha I’m surprised Elle (Elliot Brooks) hasn’t teased you about not reading her book yet. Then again Elle is pretty sweet and would likely push for you to read Ninth Rain instead. Just like how she is influencing me to read it. I’d recommend The Name of the Wind and Jade War as some priority reads. Additionally, 2 of my sister’s favourites are on your shelf. If she watched this video, she would’ve recommended Educated and Home Before Dark.

I am a little late to the game, but Jessie, I loved this video!! You inspired me to do the same and so after watching this video, I decided to track all the books I own and divide them between unread & read. I found out that I own around 280 books and 75% of them are unread! I think my goal for the remainder of this year is to get my unread to owned ratio down to 63%. Even though it seems like a daunting task, I am glad I am doing this sooner than later!

One thing that has helped me to slowly but steadily move through some of my classics’ collection is a free app called Serial Reader. I probably read an extra 5 classics via the app last year, including Anna Karenina which is a beast.

I've read 16 books you own, and DNFed 3 out of those (Tigana - unnecessary incest + cringy sex scenes & I'm not a prude at all, Treasure Island - very boring 🙈 - and 20 000 Leagues Under The Sea - the neverending descriptions with literal lists of sea things killed it for me 👀). The books I loved were Les Mis (though I've only read an abridged version, but planning to (re)read the whole thing at some point), The Picture of Dorian Gray and Dr Jekyll & Mr. Hyde (those last two were brilliant in my opinion!). Those I enjoyed were Name of The Wind (beautiful writing style, couldn't put it down, but heard the second book is a flop from a spoilery review and decided not to continue on 😅), Little Women (very sweet, really enjoyed the life lessons and watching our characters grow), Peace & Turmoil (excellent character work & interesting world building 💗). Those I liked were The Wind In The Willows (beautiful descriptions but the story was too chaotic for me and that ending didn't make any sense 😂 It was funny, but I just wished I got attached to the characters more), The Lightning Thief (enjoyable, but too young in tone for me), Pride & Prejudice (interesting themes, I liked the characters but the ending disappointed me), The Wizard of Oz (cute, very similar to the movie), The Little Mermaid (similar to the Disney movie, but I think the ending was quite different - I preferred it, our mermaid actually pays for her choices, which makes it darker). The only one I really hated was Frankenstein (I couldn't stand the dumb choices the Doctor made the whole way through and I never believed the Monster was human at all; so many things made me roll my eyes, the author didn't manage to make anything believable and it really took me out of the story). The ones you mentioned that are on my 2022 TBR list: Assassin's Apprentice, Best Served Cold & The Three-Body Problem. I can't wait for these! 😍
