Honestly, this is scary stuff. People (especially distracted people) rely on the vehicle to prevent them from doing anything stupid ie blindspot monitoring during a lane change. I watch a lot of dash cam videos where idiots have sideswiped (or even worse). In the video you can see the warning on the mirror going off but they are already so distracted, they don’t notice the system trying to warn them. I hate to be a downer but it’s true. People think the car won’t let them make a mistake. WRONG!!!! Peace

I have the parallel park on my 2016 King Ranch. I was showing it to a friend on a public street. It gave the go ahead for spot selection and proceeded to work perfectly until it hit the car behind. Two problems. There was not adequate space to put the truck in the spot and it moved faster than I could hit the brake when the rear bumper sensors sounded. Of course my focus was on the right front fender not hitting the left rear fender of the forward car while the truck “squeezed” in. Ended up dinging me on insurance and the Ford service tech wrote in capital letters that the manual says to apply the brake when needed. Never used the parking feature again. I am glad they have improved it with auto braking but I still would not trust it and could never recommend it. I will just use old school methods with the aid of modern cameras and sensors.

Very impressive amount of tech on these trucks. I enjoy seeing what they can do. The pro trailer backup assist from a few years ago was an eye opener, most people don't tow trailers enough to become proficient at it. A simple knob that takes the thought out of it is beneficial to those with not enough skill. I love the rear parking sensors and camera on my 2011, but with the mirrors that are as big as a Wisconsin woman's forehead, that's all the assistance I need to park anywhere. My other truck needs a key to lock and unlock the door. I added gear oil to the steering box( it had been empty for decades apparently) and it then felt like it had power steering! Power steering hadn't even been invented yet. Oh, and my wipers aren't even electric, that wasn't invented yet either- they're vacuum wipers.

I’ve seen several vehicles (explorers) where it curbed the wheels. At the Ford SUV experience for my ST they said when parallel parking it will line you up with the vehicle behind you. If it’s far from the curb you will be too. If it’s right against the curb you will be. You can see that in your video. It lined you up with the outside edge (in this case the front) of the truck behind you.

My 2010 Escape Hybrid has the backup camera and the (parallel) parking assist, which on that car parallel parks but not the perpendicular. The backup camera works similarly, but there's no rear braking assist. I agree with others: the rear brake *assist* would strike me as "too much, and also not enough* because it LETS GO. So first you stop for the baby carriage but then you hit it. Ford should make it configurable so you can change that behavior. However the backup camera with increasing sound warning is super and has helped me hundreds of times, it's very useful. You can pull *all the way* into parking spots and never touch anything. It sees a wide area without making *you* turn around. Ditto the parallel parking, which works great all the way back to 2010 so they've had a lot of time to refine it. I have let several people who are "PP Challenged" borrow the car and they are always amazed once I show them how to use it. No problems so far with that. I still prefer to perpendicular-park-and-center myself, so I don't miss that. As for reliability/durability, the Escape Hybrid is not a "work truck" but mine is 11 years old and none of this stuff has failed (knock wood) so fingers crossed Ford is using good chips and sensors still. Screens and cameras are here to stay in cars and trucks, like it or not. Ford did a good job integrating old and new with the F150 interior.

Thanks for the Demo, I was too afraid to try this test in mine! I finally received my 2021 F150. I really liked the 2.7 in my last one, so ordered it again. However, the engine idles rough and even seems to stumble like a misfire when coming to a stop/parked. It rattles the doors and bottles in the cupholder. Ford says, since there are no codes to just keep driving it. My 2020 2.7 ran really smoothly. Any ideas on how I can remedy this or what might be causing the problem? I don’t think Ford has a clue on on how to fix the 2021 year models. I’ve talked to 3 dealers about the issue.

While these features can be useful in certain situations, at the end of the day, it's more parts that can and will fail. I don’t think it’s a flaw of the system to not hold the brake. It’s flashing apply brake on the screen, gave you an audible warning and had a message on the instrument panel. You did nothing so the computer relinquished control back to the driver. As it should. The computer should never be allowed to take away control from the driver. There could be reasons the driver wants to keep going, like backing out of a spot with deep snow behind you. Computer doesn’t know it’s not dangerous. Or what if there is a glitch and it stops for nothing. Do you want to sit in traffic trying to figure out how to turn it off or would you prefer to be able to immediately override it by continuing to back up?
