Others are just car salesmen doing them. I am glad they changed the touch pad on the future models, since it is still the same on the 2022 Lexus RX. It is a learning curve to get the hang of it. Thanks you for such a comprehensive and informative review. It's interesting the difference between the US and UK/European reviews of this car. In the UK the reviewers love the e-latch system and the steering wheel controls remarking that they're both clever and sophisticated, otherwise barely getting a mention. In the US and Canada, the reviewers, without exception dislike them. The same is true of the run-flat tyres (tires). I've had run-flats for years on my BMWs and I like them, I trust that if I get a puncture when travelling at high speed that I'll be easily able to maintain control and won't have to stop on the side of a busy Motorway/Freeway to attend to a flat. Sure there's a little more road noise in the cabin and they're maybe 5% more expensive but I also get more luggage space. The additional weight of EVs and PHEVs does put extra stress on the tyres and they're more likely to suffer from flats making run-flats an even more logical choice I think. Looking forward to delivery of my 450h+ next month.

Wonderful review. I’ve heard, the reason Lexus went with the button door handle has to do with sensors detecting bikes, cars or pedestrians traveling by and not allowing the door to open crashing into them. A mechanical solution would not have worked as well.

@wth2021i dont agree. These companies reaseach things. Reviewers dont. Those are just opinion based on little things they know. Saw lots of vidoes videos where a motorcycle, Bikes or even cars hit the door becuase the passenger or driver did not know something is coming at the back.

I have owned three Lexus vehicles over the years. Gone away to BMW then Volvo. But am going to go back to a Lexus NX 2022. I have tested the new car extensively and it is superbly refined to drive with a brilliant adaptive cruise system and the best heads up I have ever seen. The touch buttons on the steering wheel are overwhelming initially but once you have set up your favourites it's very easy to use. As for the doorhandles, yes they are a little strange but you get the collision avoidance as a real benefit. Progress I guess.

Thank you for a very detailed review. I have been driving the 450h+ for two weeks now and overall, I love it. The door handles are not such a bad thing - people will get used to it. The steering controls are something else. The touch controls (just the function display) show up on the HUD every time hands graze over them - especially while turning and is distracting. They also lack texture and force the driver to actually look at the HUD or the buttons, every time a button press is required. Perhaps a SW update will include an option to disable controls display on the HUD and include more customization of buttons.

I work for Toyota so I may be biased, but the electronic door handles are electronic for safety reasons. It will stop you from opening your door if a cyclist or vehicle would impact the door were it opened. In that case it will beep at you and not open the door. As you said though, there are mechanical work arounds if the battery or electronics fail. Some other cars have a similar setup like Tesla.

Here I am again at 3am watching my favorite channel and master mechanic. I just traded my wifes 2015 Rav4 XLE for a new 2024 NX250 (retirement present). I bought the base model to avoid turbos, CVTs and excessive electronics and my wife loves the car, Not a fan of the electronic shifter or the run flat tires but overall the quality level is high and drives and handles well. I chose the NX because the 2024 Rav4 XLE model had very limited color choices and didnt like the excessive black body and fender cladding. The NX is far more attractive. Last year I bought a new 4 Runner so now our transformation from Honda to Toyota/Lexus is complete and look forward to our retirement years to be trouble free with help from the car care nut!

This is a good in depth and honest review. The new doors are linked to a sensor that won't unlock if it detects a car or bicycle on the side. Just a comment re the new door system. The desire to avoid the so called “dooring” accidents is highly desirable. This type of accident is so prevalent that it has its own name and makes up 15-20% (or likely more) of all bicycle car accidents and car door openers are considered at fault in most states. It usually results in severe injuries to the cyclist, not to mention the costs and insurance issueS. As a cyclist who has had to avoid this more than once (never hit thank goodness) I am very happy to see Toyota/Lexus do something about this. This feature makes the NX more desirable to me.

I have the 350h and so far just loving it! It did take a bit but got used to HVAC settings. I'm a month and have learned how to set up shortcuts and other easier ways to automate stuff. The Lexus "Siri" is very accurate so don't really need the touch screen as much as you might think. It should be noted that the steering wheel controls are for the top level ONLY in Canada. Any other level there is no HUD or programmable buttons on steering wheel.

As much as I don't like the grilles on Lexus, the 450 grille looks very good with the rest of the front end. It just seems to blend in better with the angular design. I'm with you on the door handles. That's an unnecessary gimmick. I know this is an apples to oranges (or lemons) comparison, but Lincoln used those on the Continental. They are great when they work properly, disastrous when they don't. The infotainment system looks nice and modern and not like 2002 graphics that Toyota/Lexus seem to be stuck on. I still prefer actual buttons and dials for the HVAC controls. Thank you for showing us the new Lexus. It really looks like they did a good job with it. I have a lot more faith in Toyota/Lexus refining the hybrid models than the twin-turbo introduction in the Tundra.

I recently was given a 2022 Outback (while my wife's car was in the shop) with the touch screen only HVAC controls and found out how dangerous they are to use while traveling on a highway at upper speed limits as well as on an unfamiliar road or in heavy stop and go traffic. If a driver traveling alone needs to take their eyes off the road to put on the defrost, it could be exceptionally dangerous or even fatal. Thank-you for pointing out this flaw in the Lexus 450+ design.

Very very Great review Sir Ahmed... i love the new redesign NX.. with all the safety features and the cool stuff especially the new infotainment.. i love the 450h+ but with long waiting period, so i ended up with the 350h.. But im very happy with the 350h, its so fuel efficient.. the only thing im worried about is how the hybrid deal with the harsh winter here in Canada.

I would go with the gas models after watching. Toooo many things to go wrong down the road unless you get rid of them after the warranty.

Hi, AMD in regards to the why are there are 3 hood latch on the new 2022 NX. this is the answer that I found in a article. "The engine hood uses a twin-lock structure, a first for Lexus, to suppress engine hood vibration caused by air turbulence, contributing to improved quietness." Also, is the new engine T24A-FTS a good engine. Thank you for your great videos.

I soo agree that the run flat tires are loud and expensive to replace!!

In many ways, that looks a lot like my $32K 2021 Venza LE. Yes, I am missing quasi-leather touches. But I took a look underneath the car and guess what? It appears to be similar to the NX. Approaching my 70th birthday, I don't normally crawl under cars anymore. But I was curious. Fuel economy is important to me and I see the same aerodynamic engineering.

Yes! Was trying to find one. But, every dealer is selling it for 10k or more over asking.

Don't really love the idea of plug-inn hybrid. Awesome review.

I notice on some Lexus models they are also getting rid of the cruise-control arm system on the steering wheel column. Is Toyota moving away from that? Personally, I think it is the most intuitive cruise-control of any vehicle. Also, I love your videos and appreciate the honest analysis! Thank You!!!

It seems like they’re moving away from it slowly. I agree I really liked the stalk

Not a fan of the massive grill but overall that car looks sweet. I like how you can get a 4cyl version.
