This is why I love your videos. It’s the honesty about having good and bad times on the bike. Keep up the awesome videos! You ain’t alone! I’ve just sat demotivated on my week off looking out the window at pure sunshine not wanting to ride after a few awesome rides for no other reason than having a bad day. We with you lady! 🤟🏼🚲🤟🏼

Thanks Chris, part of me wanted to edit down the end part but I had to leave it there. I want to show when I'm feeling low but sadly the lowest parts the camera doesn't even come out. Well I forced myself here. But I guess we are all human, we struggle and we compare ourselves to others. But it's normal isn't it. Just have a few days off the bike my friend, no point doing it for the sake of it x

Katie Kookaburra well despite the pants situation I’m glad you left it in. It’s that raw and honest element to your videos that I think connects with people. We all know how ruthless cycling can be. Gives you the best of times but can also royally kick you in the ass at others. Look forward to seeing what follows next for ya and yeah I’ll be back on bike in no time. For now a brew and an Oreo is in order 😂 🤟🏼🚲🤟🏼

Chris Rayment Feel you man. Battling depresssion and cycling is my major escape, it’s why I’ve fallen in love with it, but even with that there are glorious days I look out and at my bike and just think “I can’t.” Important you give your mind a chance to rest as well as your body. You’ll get back in the saddle when you’re ready and you’ll fall in love with it all over again.

I will often say you don't know everything until you experience it. Sometime words need to be put in your face like fatigue, emotional distress, exhaustion, fear. Understanding these will alleviate mental stress caused by any of the above. A fear of being left behind can cause an overload to try and keep up and mistimed hydration and nutrition. Nearly all these things I've learned from riding Audax events. I'm glad you are posting about these things through your videos for others to relate and hopefully learn without abandoning a great sport.

I've tried something similar in a race in Norway, Jotunheimen Rundt 430 km with 4609m elevation. So hard. Took me 20 hours. I found out that it is possible to fall asleep while riding a bike. I nearly did, but I went to the side of the road and dozed off for 20 minutes. That was amazing. I struggled the last 3-4 hours to the finish. Rough stuff. Was an amazing feeling to complete the race. Your ride is quite different, since you had to keep going the next day. I don't think I would have been able to after that ride. Race Around Denmark is going on right now. 1584 km unsupported. I think I will do it next year, but as a duo if I can get someone to join me. It would be epic. I'd try to go for 400 km per day and see if I could get a solid 5-6 hours of sleep each night. Easy to plan to do that, but I can imagine that it is quite different to actually do it. So good job on completing your insanely hard ride. Well done. Hope you got a good sleep afterwards.

When you hit the wall Katie, your body just wants to shut down ... getting some sleep to recover will put you back in mind stead... although the weather can put you off .. luckily you got lucky, but nothing is worse than riding in pouring rain ... myself and Angie did tour of the lakes over 5 days with 2 days Saturday and Sunday just poured it down with 40 to 50mph winds ... needless to say we stayed in our tent for one day and gave it a miss to help us recharge our bodies, especially fully loaded fat bikes in prep for LEJOG. ... Riding in strong winds like you did is brave and a little crazy, I've been blown into a farm wall couple yr back ... it's scary stuff .. at least you got help and got a lift, plus could of been worse Katie, could of ended up in hospital. . And the end of the day Katie, your life and well being is more important than a bike ride, that can be done another time in better weather conditions. ... you've done well to get as far as you did with very little sleep. ... so well done ... you gave it your best that's what counts 👍🥂

Don't be hard on yourself or even compare yourself to others. We are not all built the same, whether it's physically or mentally. I am a firm believer that ultra long distance rides are more mental than physical. It's even tougher when you are riding solo with no one to push you. Good luck and keep your head high, you've ridden more than probably 90% of the cyclists of the world have ever attempted.

@@KatieKookaburra I am thoroughly impressed with your abilities as a cyclist. I wish that I had more time to do rides like what you accomplish. I know when I did a solo 200 miler, the toughest part was the last 20 miles. My mind kept wanting to just quit, but my body seemed to be just fine. Hi Katie, I know how you feel. I had my 100k at the weekend. Got sunburned to crispy crunchy. Like you I met some riders on the way. I got adopted by a Leicestershire club, who helped me get up the hills towards the end. Good people. Just like you, I felt a bit fraudulent as I had to push it up a few of the bigger hills. I just ran out of legs at that point. My time wasn't pretty either. 6 1/2 hrs. Looking at the times I saw that some of the race whippets had clocked 3 hrs quicker than me. That means that, even with the chuffing hills they were averaging 20 mph. Yeah, a lot of work to do to get this carcase up to that speed. But here is the thing. I did 100k. The only negative was the sunburn and I should have put creme on for that. The rest of the ride was great. Some awesome descents. A picturesque feed station and great scenery. In short, I got a buzz out of it and am already looking for the next one. Not increasing the millage just yet, but will do another 100k while hitting the gyme at work. You are doing 900k. Thats awesome. You will have self doubt and worries and feel like you are faking it. But you are going to finish and you will have achieved something. You might not be a race whippet, but you will do this for you, not some fanbase. Not for some time score, but because you want it. By the way, my eldest is dating a vegan. Any good cook books out there to help when he comes over or dinner?

We all do this. We look at goal which we didn't meet or make and get so disappointed and even punish ourselves. What we need to do is look at the whole journey and see how far up the ladder we've climbed. Look down (back) and see what you've accomplished. A buddy of mine used this analogy to describe the world's social structure and status. We always look at the 1%, we never look at how well we have it when we consider the world as a whole. Puts things in perspective. Btw. I thought cursing at the hills was standard operating procedure
@kryghyzho78685 жыл бұрын
This just shows how hard these things are mentally and how hard it is to prepare for the questions that creep up in your head. The majority of the video you seemed very sharp and happy, so I'm confident next one you'll be alright after some sleep and food. Nothing wrong with swearing at hills by the way, last weekend I was swearing to a pretty massive headwind for 3h straight :) Also comparing yourself to others in these events is totally useless, it doesnt gain you anything. But if you insist on comparing, you beat a LOT of people by even starting this. **insert sound of cowbell here** VAMOS KOOKAAAAAAAAAAAAA! **insert sound of cowbell here**

Typically great video and the forthright honesty that we’ve come to value so highly. I’m guessing if you can get some sleep snd replenish the glycogen you’ll be ready to go. We vegans can easily skip the calories we need and it catches up with us. I’m guessing that’s the cause-so eat, sleep, eat some more. No pressure!

You dared to dream so well done for that but the route was hard if you looked at the topography. Doing Dun Fell and Tan Hill poss in the dark would have put me off. If you want to a night ride take a look at Ride To The Sun. Better done in a group as your lights work together. it's 100 miles and a great route

Awww Katie it's OK to cry ..you might just be drained through all the mental worrying and thinking that you aren't worthy of doing what everyone is also probably going through ...Have a good sleep..and try to stay in the now ..We all have problems separating the mind from the body and thoughts from emotions... Just you look at how far you have come from the beginning of your road bike life ?!?! See there is always Yin an Yang ..so to teach us that life always will have difficult times ...Well done just taking part ...Maybe call your Mum for inspiration and motivation ?! Paul

Aww Katie. You to me are that person where I’m thinking how the hell does she do that she’s so fast and goes sooo long? You’re incredible. Don’t be so hard on yourself. Just enjoy it. Don’t base your selfworth onto it. Youre amazing. You’re worthy if you make it or not. Just do it for the fun of it. See how you go. Give yourself some room to breathe.

Katie Kookaburra happens to the best of us. :) I’m so glad my comment helped you. I always remember you saying that you cycle for the joy of it. So connect to that joy. Enjoy the vieeews, the air, the experience. Ride at your own pace and don’t compare yourself to others. You’re good enough as you are and such an inspiration. Be kind to yourself :)

It’s good to get inspired by others. But don’t turn that into selfhate. It won’t help but create unnecessary tension that will hold you back ultimately. You didn’t join to compete with others did you? Xx
