That’s not how that works. Hate crime statutes require evidence surrounding the motive. Unless the perpetrator said or shown to have such leanings in his background this is just assault and probably the enhancement to go for is assault on the elderly.

Years ago, when I was a kid in the 90’s, my brother used to have a pair of sunglasses that have little mirrors on the inside edges of the lenses so you could see what’s behind you. I think he got them at one of those weird gag gift mall stores they used to have, like Dappy or Spencer’s or something. At the time, I thought they were weird, but now with all these attacks in the city, I totally see the need for a pair of glasses like that and I wish I still had them. I’m surprised they’re not more popular. I’ve looked on Amazon, and they do have a few options, but none of them seem to be as good as the old ones. Most of the ones they make now are very ugly and obvious looking. I don’t even think most people know these sunglasses exist. I think it’s going to get to the point where everyone will need to wear both the mirrored sunglasses and a discreet body camera that records front and back views and audio and if you don’t have that, the police will barely do anything. That’s the point we’re going to be at in 20 years if some major change doesn’t happen.
