Svens speech was amazing. Unfortunately for some weird reason people seem to think it was about wukong and there are now some angry chinese reviews on the steam page of bg3. I guess something was lost in translation as it was clearly about microtransaction fueled live service games that have no soul and only exist to make money. Truly weird how they thought its about wukong which was clearly made with passion and has no mtx at all. EDIT: some people have used this comment to be racist towards china. i strongly disagree with these takes.
@makasete30Күн бұрын
True, and it is sad, but it was a much broader criticism of the industry and game development than just microtransactions . He emphasized that successful games stem from studios creating titles they are passionate about, rather than focusing solely on market share or arbitrary sales targets. He criticized practices such as exploiting developers, treating players merely as users to monetize, and making short-sighted decisions driven by financial incentives. He also advocated for prioritizing game quality and team well-being, asserting that revenue will naturally follow when developers and players are treated with respect. Generally he was underscoring that games are a unique art form comparable to books, music, or movies.
@bottlegang3187Күн бұрын
So here's what happened: Bilibili did a simultaneous livestream of the event, and they had someone doing live translations of all the speeches. I think after like 3 hours of translating stuff she got tired, so she straight up mistranslated a couple very important lines (she translated one of the games as "the higherups at TGA said it doesn't matter how well your game sells"). People are trying to counter the disinformation on Bilibili but it's already spreading out of control. Realistically that speech could be applied to every single studio that got nominated and was really only a jab at the big publishers (AHEM Sony), but unfortunately people in China also seem to have trouble separating the studio from the publisher, since a lot of people referred to Astro Bot winning as "Sony winning" instead of "Team Asobi winning" (althought tbf Astro Bot does seem heavily rooted in Sony history)

I'm not invested in the meta of The Game Awards like Ralph is - that it's "important for the industry" fundamentally - but I will say that this time the vibes were good and I can confidently say it was a good show. Some of the reveals were pretty sick - Turok at the top. My boss who was at the show did say some people seemed visibly upset about Astro Bot winning as they left.
@SuperCaleb360Күн бұрын
This Awards Show was shockingly good. Astro Bot a 3D platformer winning game of the year! Okami 2, a new game from the team that made Shadow of the Colossus, a couch co op split screen game, and my 2 favorite Muppets making excellent jabs about the game awards as a whole.

Its not the team that made shadow of the colossus, its the ONE person from the team. The rest of the team is mostly Team Asobi and considering the history of his games, this one will flop too.....People seem to constantly forget, they made 3 games which took decades all of them massively flopped

I really enjoyed the show but I hated the live chat (surprise I know). They kept spamming “woke” whenever there was a woman on screen, especially for the Witcher 4. @dtanoboКүн бұрын
The reality is that the kinds of people that write in a stream chat are the kinds of people that have time to do so and they're usually people who just want to waste their energy complaining about things. Sad state of things but normal people don't have a problem with these things

Astro Bot winning GOTY was well, well, well deserved. It’s been years since I’ve played a game which so consistently filled me with joy, wonder, and amazement from start to finish. An absolutely gorgeous, wonderful experience all the way through and I cannot say enough good things about it.

The surprises were great this year, truly a stacked reveal year but something else happened… The show was actually good! They really gave the winners time to shine and speak which is a great correction from last year. I think it’s because they cut down the live performances. Also a lot of their bits were actually pretty funny? The Muppets lampshading the show was a great idea. You could really feel the passion for games this year shine through! Great year for the game awards. My favorite moment of the night was definitely Sam Lake’s monologue! Also Sven’s speech too!

Swen''s speech was genuinely fantastic, and I *loved* hearing that from someone heading up a huge video game company. But Amir's speech was probably the highlight of the show for me. It was just so wholesome, I was actually tearing up a bit. On the game announcement point, I think I'm most hesitantly excited about the next naughty dog game. Sci fi isn't usually my jam (Though I am an absolute *sucker* for retro-future), but I have consistently been a fan of naughty dogs games since the crash and jak&Daxter games-like, for me, they haven't missed. Obviously, I'm not going to pre-order it or anything: that kind of game will live or die for me on its writing and characters-neither of which we get to see much of in a trailer. Last note-I've seen a lot of discourse online about how Ciri looks, and on the naughty dog game trailer, and I gotta say it's times like this that just make me...disappointed. There's a reason that many people who play video games don't want to say they're "Gamers" or whatever, and a part of that is because there's a shameful amount of the community that bitches and moans about games being "too woke" if the protagonist isn't hot enough, or is a women. *Especially* when the complaining is based off of like a two minute snippet of a game that no one has played.

Not a game announcement, but I think a special acknowledgement should be given to the music presented during the show! The Game of the Year medley was great as usual, but the reveal of Okami 2 to a live orchestra was a super cool way to announce it. And there's the Arcane soundtrack medley, which was actually my highlight of the night. Royal & the Dragon and d4vd sounded excellent in their stripped-down versions of their songs for the show, but Twenty One Pilots absolutely killed it with that live version of The Line, which I think is one of the best songs from the season 2 soundtrack.
