Thank you so much Oceana!! 💙 As a 16 year old girl who is cautious about most YA books nowadays this was definitely helpful! ☺️

There are so many older YA series that I still need to read. I'm SO behind! LOL But this year, I read Belladonna by Adalyn Grace and loved it (5 stars for me). Can't wait to finish that trilogy. Then, I also loved Bonesmith by Nicki Pau Preto (another 5 stars). This is a duology that I will soon finish. Another older series I loved was Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ranson Riggs. I haven't finished that series, just read the first two books, but both were 5 stars for me. A couple others that I really enjoyed were House of Salt & Sorrow by Erin A. Craig and her newest book, The Thirteenth Child. Also, loved How to Hang a Witch by Adriana Mather. It's pretty dark, but I also loved Into the Heartless Woods by Joanna Ruth Meyer.

Loved hearing your thoughts, Oceana! For anyone interested in Shatter Me, I will add that the dynamic changes a bit in the second half of the series and Juliette gains more power in the dynamic. Caution: the final novella has a scene that is very much NOT fade to black.

Once Upon a Broken Heart trilogy is very fairytale-like with it's setting and writing style and if you dont want to read a fairytale fantasy I can understand why people don't like it (even though it's a favorite series)

If you want any fantasy recommendations, I thought The Prison Healer series was great. Thanks for your feedback on all of these popular fantasies too. Totally agree that The Divine Rivals duology. It was totally overhyped. Didn’t like at all.

I have been subscribed for awhile now and not sure if I have ever commented...but I want to say thank you for this video. I am 60 and a Christian. Lately I have been struggling with a variety of things. A few years ago I discovered booktube and feel like I have found a group of people I can trust. My priorities are a bit out back right now though. Fomo, Imposter syndrome, trying to fit in etc. at my age is a joke. A handful of true and kind girls have accepted me and for that I am thankful. I am refocusing on what is important, and this video helped with that! Thank u again!

Only the first few books in the Throne of Glass series are clean. The rest have explicit open door scenes from what I've been told.

I love Divergent and the whole series. I did a reread this year and realized just how much I loved it. I am not a fan of any other books I’ve tried to read by Veronica Roth. I also really love The Hunger Games trilogy. I was definitely a fan of ya dystopian. Of course, I am a high school English teacher and I’ve been a junior high English teacher and librarian.

I need to finish the Red Queen Series. And I think that’s why I didn’t gravitate towards Powerless because I read Red Queen a week before 😅 I’ll have to read Powerless without reading any fantasy/dystopian for months.

Thank you so much Oceana for making this video! I have been wondering what you think of books like Harry Potter and Twilight. Loved this video. Personally for me, I feel convicted to not read Harry Potter but I really enjoy Twilight so much. Also, I have a question. Would you be open minded with making a video about two really big authors. Maybe even make a video reading one book from each author. They are Danielle Steel and James Patterson. I recommend it. Please just one book each. Your viewers will love it! 😍 ❤😂

I’m with you on the Mortal Instruments books and all Cassandra Clare books. I was a big fan, like special ordered signed books level-big fan- and read them before I was really a committed Christian and then reread them as a Christian and 🫣 YIKES. Literal scripture taken and turned into talking about hell and demons and how they summon demons through pentagrams and stuff. Way too close to real life witch craft so I unhauled all of them. Take this as a warning if your Christian that those books are quite dark and blasphemous imo. Also many relationships between boy/boy girl/girl and polygamy in the Dark Artifices series. Overall a no.

great video. Glad I am not the only one who didn't jump on the Once Upon a Broken Heart bandwagon. I didn't make it too far before DNFing the first book. The dude was just too creepy..and why the description about his nasty red lips? yuck..
