One of the fun little hacks with this place that the kids at the high school nearby would do (as a former kid from the nearby high school) is "the flip" where you literally flip the box twice so that the big scoop of sauce that's in there distributes to everything. This place really is the quintessential "go to your nearest teriyaki place" because being next to an all boys school really fed that place to satisfaction.

I went to highschool a few blocks away, and I ate Yoshino’s nearly every day. My protip is to get the “half and half” (half yakisoba, half rice) with teriyaki chicken Their yakisoba is sooo good. Another delicious thing on the menu is the teriyaki pork, quite delicious. “Mr. Yoshino”, the owner, as the kids from my high school would call him is a very kind funny guy. He would always run a special price for the high school kids who relied on him for their lunch. A staple of the neighborhood and community (But if youre in the neighborhood, also check out their next door neighbor, Pho Saigon! amazing pho and bahn mi and lunch offerings)

Just dog piling here. I hope you'll make a short video at some point trying the spicy chicken. It's unlike spicy teriyaki I've had anywhere else. I'm a huge spice fan but I do not like spicy teriyaki 99% of the time. At the places I've been the spicy teriyaki is done through a sauce that end up tasting grating and overly salty. But at Yoshino, I believe they marinate the chicken itself in a spicy sauce and then they serve with with regular teriyaki sauce on top. It ends up with more of a tasty peppery flavor that compliments the already incredible cabbage salad even more. Love this series. Thanks for everything you contribute to the world, Kenji.

Yoshino's is my local Teriyaki place. It's a good low carb option because you can get meat and slaw without rice (the sacrilege!), and the slaw is quite filling. The spicy chicken isn't really any better than the regular (I think they use the same marinade but with white pepper in it). They are both squarely mediocre, but even so it's a pretty good lunch, and it's an order of magnitude better than BBs Teriyaki downtown or the Teriyaki you get in a couple of the asian run buffets downtown. So I walk up to Yoshino's quite a lot.

I just went to Sunny Teriyaki in Ballard the other day as a suggestion from a buddy. I was pretty happy with the flavor as it had nice char (albeit a tiny bit dry), and the dressing on the salad was some of the best I had since it wasn’t too sweet and more sesame forward. Give it a shot if you’re in the neighborhood.
