Great interview with prob my all time favourite player. Met him as a kid at the training ground the day after Ron Saunders resigned. Ron Saunders had said I could come down and meet the players so a bit of chaos that morning. They told me I could sit where the players were having breakfast and reading the paper pre training. After going round the room asking for autographs, walked out and bumped into Tony Morley getting out of his car (sure it was a capri!) with a sandwich in his hand. Asked for an autograph, he said sure and could I hold his sandwich while he signed. Probably my proudest moment!

Listening to Tony brings it all into perspective. How times have changed in regards to star players lifestyles nowadays. A different world. Thanks for the video post 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽. Most engaging. Somehow my imagination can't stretch far enough to see any CURRENT player speaking this eloquently when their footballing careers come to a natural close. What will their memories be? I doubt that the content will extend beyond the clubs they played at, what cars they drove and a video of a couple of flash houses they own. My hero and met him many times since 84 and have many pics with him, my friend used to rent his house in the 80’s in Sutton and I couldn’t believe it when I was up stairs and his shirts and kits were still in the cupboard.My nephew was at hednesford with his son Joe for many years and a good player as well. Tony used to do football schools around the area as well, LEGEND 💙💜

I was the “guy” who chatted to Tony for 30 mins or so at ChaseTown FC, as Tony’s Son - Joe, was in their squad 23/24. A genuinely great bloke. Nice to meet one of my heroes. 👍💜💙

That was great fun, laced with some nice little football stories. Tony Morley, what a top bloke, so much humour and such a big heart. He was terrific in those few seasons. I have never seen anyone who could run with the ball at that pace. There were times when he ran the length of the field, and no one could get near him. Thanks Pete, great interview, best yet!

My WHOLE family is and was Villa barmy. No choice you was drilled UTV from birth. Aged 7 My first game was villa v Ipswich 1981 we lost, but my dad taking me In the holte, with the AV floodlights. Is a day that was just like Tony said his first game at Everton was. Tony Morley and Gary Shaw i Idolised as a kid wanted to be Tony when I played in the street and even when i played when got older I wanted to be a winger but ended up LB or LM. End of day loved this and what this man Don for me My family and my team. Thank you Tony VTWD

Pete, when you talk to a Scouser, ask them to write down what they’ve said, Tony actually said the Cork and Bottle pub, not the Cock N Bull. It was lost in his accent. My wife and I used to go to this pub regular during the 80s and often saw Villa players in there, the pub is on Boldmere Road in Sutton Coldfield, it’s now called the Boldmere Tap.

I remember Tony Morley, I knew his grandad pigeon racing he lived down Clucas gardens.I remember the capri he was a ladies man. He knew Tommy Gorman , Terry Connor and Mikey Dowling

It's interesting to me, probably of no interest to anyone else when he talked about how the English game went long ball in the early 80s. I was born in 79, I remember the 86 world cup, just about, and I remember late 80's first division football. But it was about 1990 when I was 10 that I really started to watch the game and understand the tactics on any level. It coincided with the birth of the Premier League. It was probably about 1990 when the long ball game started to die. Alex Ferguson was playing with pacey wingers and Man U kept the ball on the grass. Big Ron came in and had us playing the ball on the grass, after Graham Taylor had his success with us playing direct balls into the channels. That's when 'long ball' became a dirty word. I remember the 'boring boring Arsenal' chants under George Graham. Arsenal were a boring long ball team before Wenger. The English game in the 60's and 70's was very good but it lost it's way in the 80s. It got complacent, and the European ban didn't help. Fast forward to today and England produce good technical players, but the coaching is just so far behind the elite level still, even now. Anyway, I've got 4 boring paragraphs out of that one little sentence of the interview. If you've made it to the end, thank you. UTV

The in 82 i started high school aged 11..imagine your school colours are claret , blue and white ..I didn't get the villa strip like some of the rich kids even if they supported Liverpool. I had a version of the 70s kit but as far as I was concerned it was Villa 😂😂😂

Was there in Rotterdam, age 18, i was at Highbury when we clinched the league. I was even behind the goal at Goodison when Tony scored the goal of the season with my late Dad. I was blessed to watch that team, i loved the one touch and the ability to break so quickly with pace. Up the mighty Villa Pete.

I knew Tony quite well when he lodged in my parents road when he first joined Villa, he had his orange Capri and we got friendly even going to the Belfry nightclub together. He recently got wind of me being in hospital just over a year ago and phoned me in the hospital to cheer me up.... shame he never finished the Miss Iceland story 😂😂
