Allan Clarke, the one and only voice of the Hollies...no one could ever come close to his vocal ability. Followed them since their inception and will take the memories of their myriad unique songs to my grave. Stay safe in these troubling times Allan...you are a living legend.

Allan Clarke was one of the best singers of his time, he has a very unique voice that not very many people can imitate... in fact nobody. A great singer and a humble man ! Together with Graham Nash they used to sing fantastic in the hollies.

This really is a truly excellent all round performance from a 78 year old man who a decade earlier thought he would never sing in public again following his now well-known vocal chord issues. Quality and respect to both he and Francis (Denis) Haines here.

Allan was in my view the best lead singer of any group from the 60/70's. I first heard the Hollies in 1964 and have been to many of their concerts over the years. Allan retired in 1999 I guess because the strain of banging out the high notes night after night took their toll. 'Heavy' is a song I perform in our current band and its great to be able to sing along with Allan in the key of C# in which he now performs this great song. When 'Heavy' was first released in [ I think] the early 70's Allan was at least 5 tones higher than today...I couldn't get any where near him! Allan's latest version of the song [ now just preformed with piano] is great. I learn something new every time I listen to the song. I'm so glad Allan is now back writing and performing and who knows we may hear him again with Graham Nash doing harmonies!

Coroners report showed unconfirmed cause of death due to advanced decomposer. This was just over a year ago. His favourite band was The Hollies and he took me many times to see you. First time was 1987 at Harrogate international centre. When he arrived at the chapel I had ‘he ain’t heavy play’ as he was carried in. I have been an ardent fan of the Hollies since they first came to notice and agree with other comments that Allan was the sound of the Hollies. It is well known that Allan, as affects us all as we get older, does not have the same range as he did, yet his voice in the lower range is still distinctive and note perfect. I think that this version of the classic Hollies song is as worthy of the highest praise, albeit differing from the original as we know it. I would much rather continue to hear Allan sing that not at all. All power to you Allan!!

Allan Clarke-- what a legend. The Hollies are often overlooked for their contribution to 1960s-'70s music. Luckily, I had older sisters who were the perfect age to be infatuated with British Invasion bands.Later in '66-'70, my family lived down the street from a Top 40 DJ who would give my sisters albums after they went through the rotation or albums they were unlikely to play. I was constantly exposed to these records being played over and over while my sisters' teen girlfriends came over and danced around. As a young boy, I knew that anything that brought the older girls over HAD to be good! Love the sunburst Martin D-28 behind him. (I think it is, anyway) Wish I could own one.

Plus the history that The Hollies went through and all the wonderful music that they played over the years, truly one of my all-time favorite bands and I can't get enough of the old videos that I find on KZbin of them. He even canceled going on tour not long ago to stay home and care for his wife who had cancer. Putting aside doing something he loves very much for someone he loves even more !!!
