@@Thamizharasan100 Bowling legends are rare after introducing T20 cricket. Due to T20 influence, Batsmen convert the pace into 4 or 6 in every over by playing Unorthodox shot in every format. Therefore, All over the world, Fast Bowlers are more defensive by bowling Slow ball, Bouncer, Wide Yorker (out side off stump) to save runs in every over. We may not find Bret Lee or Shoiab Akthar's aggressive pace bowling in coming years

Fantastic, rare video. I thought Lara handled the surprise bouncer by Donald beautifully, given that the bouncer clearly surprised Lara (bouncers were very rare in ODI cricket in that era).
@relevantbrother89648 ай бұрын
This was Donald's earlier action (88-93) where he had a longer pause in his gather and was like a coiled spring, at his very fastest. Funny enough, he never used this action again and sacrificed a yard of pace for greater accuracy and ability to bowl long spells required for tests as the spearhead. In 1989 he was timed at 158 against the touring English.

@@exb254 no he doesn’t need to say that at all that’s your way of thinking / Along with Donald there was Waqar and Bishop he clearly said Shoaib lee & Tait took express pace bowling to a whole new level / even in 1999 when Pakistan were due to play SA Donald said it then Shoaib is certainly the quickest he has seen / yes Donald was extremely rapid in his young days along with Waqar (before his severe back injury) I’m pretty sure Donald and Waqar bowled well above 95mph on regular basis but 100mph never and I’m a huge fan of Waqar and Donald

@@psychm4787 you might be correct, but it's completely subjective without speed guns earlier in their careers. Donald did bowl 95mph well into his 30's with a shortened runup and after injuries, just like Waqar did, so tough to argue he wasn't quicker when younger and in his prime...unfortunately we'll never know for certain though. Statistically it's definitely in Shaoib's favor for sure.

@altaican24822 жыл бұрын
@Ronnie - I think this was a bad example to make that point. Lara handled the bouncer very well. But yes, Lara was vulnerable (not weak) against fast short pitched bowling - mostly because of Lara's attitude rather than any real technical weakness. Telling Lara was weak against extreme pace would be stupid, given that Lara has had 500+ run Test series several times against tough tough pace attacks - for example in South Africa in 2003-04, against Australia in 2003 as well as 1999 (with Brett Lee, Gillespie, McGrath) etc.

Don't agree with the initial comments of Henry and Sunny Bhai. Both thinking Donald and Bishop are the fastest at that time. Earlier in that year (1993) Waqar clearly proved he was the fastest in that era. In the Total series in South Africa 93, there were speed guns and Waqar was constantly bowling in high 150s while Donald's fastest in that tournament was 144. Bishop was slower than Donald. Not to forget that tournament also had Akram Ambrose Walsh and Patterson. Waqar was way ahead in speed as well as he was the highest wicket taker in the tournament.
