Second comment: The nugget and picker you found are definitely pieces that could be seen with a detector. The irregular surface of the caliche will trap small nuggets, so definitely the bottom of your dig hole needs a pass from a detector.

Absolutely Ralph ! I scanned it with a Gold Bug 2, but no luck. However, those cracks need to be shop vac for sure. A friend found a couple nuggets further down stream several years ago. So, I expect to run into a few in due course. Thanks for watching !

@allansgoldmining3 жыл бұрын
Every sluice system is different. Flow rate, angle, and volume are critical factors. My sluice angle is 12 degrees, flow rate of 1 ft/sec, and water height (measured on the slick plate) is 3/8" high. Best way to test is use #8 leaded bird shot. Flatten a few, cut a few in half, and leave the remainder rounded. Use about 10 pieces. Run it through sluice with dirt. If you recover most of your lead you are in good shape ! Gold is almost twice as dense as lead.

Awe dude, that is the most amazing setup. Sluice-washing the desert. I love that you don’t need a water truck following you around, yet get the full benefit of cleaning the rocks and clay to get the best chance at capturing the gold. The vibration decks, watch any video on liquefaction and it makes sense the gold will hit the bottom super fast. Simply amazing. Have you ever met up with Bill Southern “Nugget shooter journals”? Just watched a dry washing video of his today and I wonder what he’d think of that setup.

Just seen the video of you and Jeff. It was great to see two of the best get together at the lady's operation. Great setup and to hold on to water that long is an awesome job. So let me ask a question I know how the pound was made but if you could also cover with the with a gap between the cover and water and close off all of the openings to help slow evaporation. Would that work. I think of it as a desalinization pot. I don't remember how many gallon per day do to evaporation but it's more then 5 on a shallow pit.

Wow you are the USA,s answer to the ausie prospector bloke who modified his sluice to wash his 5 buckets of ore to catch 100 to 400 mesh gold. So fine he said you could brush this onto skin like makeup? A face blusher or foundation? He retrieved another 9 grams after the modifications the third crush in a ball mill that reduced the size to that finer than possibly imaginable and removed the fines to the point of only being able to find 2 specs in his 5 buckets of tailings. But yours and his ingenuity remind me of you each. You should check him out. The Ausie prospector bloke.

Thanks for the kind compliments mate ! Yes, I've seen his set up. The vibrator on the sluice is intriguing. He was recovering good fines !
@richardrobertson13313 жыл бұрын
Loved every aspect of this video . . . camera work, geology discussion, etc. Since almost no fine gold was found, have you tried changing the surface tension with soap or gypsum? Also, maybe re-processing the run off at the end of your sluice with a little slower water? I have a similar suspended sediment problem in Nevada where gold dust loves to stick to suspended clay. Excellent work and very educational watching the problems identified and addressed over time.
@allansgoldmining3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the very nice compliments Richard ! Always glad to hear experiences of fellow prospectors. I've been thinking about gyp for quite some time, and now that I'm running extra gooey clay, it's probably time. The settings on the plant haven't changed. The mat I'm using it designed for fine gold recovery. Notice how the water jumps erratically over the riffles ? That's by design. There's a series of countering oscillations going on, causing the gold to drop. Most of the gold is trapped on the first riffle due to this. The remaining riffles are there to pick up the crumbs. Also, there's a saying out here, "Where you find nuggets, there's no fine gold, and vise versa." I've seen it on many occasions. I think it has to do more from the geologic aspect of the area. Best of luck to you out there !!
@ReighnProspecting2 жыл бұрын

The spray is not weak. Do you see how clean the rocks are as the exit they shaker deck ? Whistle clean. Increase spray pressure will lead to over splashing, thus losing precious water. Also the reason why I developed a verticle wedge spray pattern to reduce this problem.

@mohammednovalija3 жыл бұрын
What angle do you run your sluice at ? And do you have issues when your material contains a good quantity leaves and grass roots and plant matter ?
@allansgoldmining3 жыл бұрын
Hi Mohammed. The sluice angle is at 12 degrees. It is the best match for the mat I'm using. I try to remove as much vegetation as possible before the material is poured onto the upper shaker deck. Most of the vegetation is screened out by the upper shaker deck. What falls onto the sluice (1/4" or less) doesn't appear to effect gold recovery. By the time it reaches the dewatering deck, it's pushed out on to the tailings. No vegetation enters the filters ponds, unless the wind blows them in.
