My next door neighbour has just had a Worcester Bosch fitted by a BiG national company. Engineer was there for about 3.5 hours in total fitting new boiler, I'd be curious to know about the quality of the system flush he carried out. I have been into the house myself since new boiler has been fitted as bathroom radiator was not getting hot, yep sludged up!

Can’t believe he was able to change that electrode screw, that wood screw must have absolutely butchered that thread in the screw hole. A new heat exchanger surely would be the only way to fix that!

Dear Allen, My gas pipe is 1.27 cm so it is on the narrow side. I'm getting a new Ideal Logic installed. Either a 18kw or 24kw woul be okay - would it be safer (given the 1.27cm) to opt for the 18kw or would it make no difference?

Is there any way to prevent burner seals from failing before the need to change them? For example, you wouldn't replace a 2-3 year old burner seal (unless it's damaged or M.I. state to do so), so what's the best way to prolong it's life?
@AllenHart9994 жыл бұрын
Changing the seal every 4/5 years is not really a big deal. If you do that they will not fail. Thanks.

The heat exchanger on the ideal. I usually boil a kettle and then use a small jug to pour boiling water into the top of the HE and place a Plumb tub where the condense trap is. Seems to get all the crap out that way

conect a hose onto the sump outlet, run it into a sink or to outside, and you can flush away till yer hearts content

I used to use an empty bleach bottle , the shaped top enabled you to direct the water spray very accurately and you could squeeze to th get a more powerful jet.

Just out of curiosity Allen do you know what device the engineer used to flush out the heat exchanger? Looked well pressured and easy to use

Hi Alen great content your knocking out these days pushing industry standards 👍🏼. What did the chap use to clean the injector it looks brand new I'm assuming wire wool or a wire brush? and what was he using to flush out the heat ex looks like a useful piece of kit... I usually use water and a cup sometimes white wine vinegar but im ocd and like every crumb gone so with that kind of water pressure I'm sure i can do it
@AllenHart9994 жыл бұрын
Not really sure what he used but i will ask and try and get back to you. Thanks.

Why do burner seals on WBs always seem to fail?
@Richard-ij8ge4 жыл бұрын
They fail around 5-6 years, its due to lack of servicing.
@timhancock66264 жыл бұрын
Why do WB hydraulic blocks fail all the time ? Why do WB flow turbine spacers dissolve? Why do CDi pump electronics fail ? I'd venture to say that burner seals don't get checked properly as the manufacturers instructions say that if the heat exchanger pulls the right vacuum, you don't need to clean it......but we all know they are wrong......don't we ?
@AllenHart9994 жыл бұрын
Lack of service in my opinion.

Allen, I ‘ve been watching your videos for some time and they are very informative. You are an excellent and trustworthy professional. However, not everybody in your trade is the same and just the gas safe registration doesn’t mean much. ALL the engineers that serviced the boilers I had over the years, only used the analyser and that was all. Perhaps yourself and other passionate engineers could use the youtube and start recommending trustworthy people across the country. I can give many examples of gas registered cowboys that came to service or repair my boiler. I wish something could be done to protect the public

I am trying my best to work towards this. Thanks so much.

As far as the Gas Regulations are Concerned there is no requirement to strip down a boiler, Manufactures also say the same, in fact the HSE would rather you did not as many an engineer has not replaced the casing properly and incidents have happened in the past. The Use of a flue gas analyser is a requirement when working/servicing a condensing boiler, as long as the combustion is within the requirements there is no need to strip it down to clean the combustion chamber. Of course if there are faults then that's another mater. Other service items of course should be done.

Hi Allen, I've got a ideal / logic boiler 1 year old. The pressure is at 1.5 (at start) & keeps raising to 2.5 +.( vented rads/ air was fairly significant) I've tried draining and toping up 1.1, followed by venting rads when cold. Is it possible that I might have an issue with the TRV's / joint connections / leaks. Thanks in advance.
@serraios19894 жыл бұрын
Probably the expansion vessel needs to be inflated or replaced

all very well and good cleaning / flushing a dirty open vent system, but if you dont fix what's causing the problem , it'll just happen again, might take a few years but it'll happen again.

I find it wrong that Ideal say that its OK/normal to have C.O inside the outer case. i.e. outside the burner/heatexchanger. They say that the burner seal is porose. What do you think Alan?
