If I don’t currently have nice lawn can I still use this mower? Or do I have to get my grass to a certain level first prior to using this? My soil isn’t the greatest either and a bit bumpy in places, seems like it needs to be perfect for reel mowers? Does it work on cold season grasses and tall fescue, or only grasses that can be kept at lower heights? I think I would keep it at its max 2” height for my grass type.

I understand the clearances on a reel mower is what makes a reel mower what it is but I still say material wise how can they make a decent push mower for $500 but nobody has made a reel mower under $1000. @@randyman8984 I have used all of the cultivars and mow twice a week. I love that it is electric. The EGO battery 🔋 works great 👍🏼 I bought a 12AMH and don’t even use half of it to mow my entire yard. There is a lot of engineering that definitely went into this. The cartridge system is a joy to swap out. Definitely super fast and so easy. The things I don’t like are that the grass catcher does not have a top flap with like a magnetic strip to block small particles from flying out. I wish the unit was wider. They have two sizes why make them so similar. I’d prefer 25-27 inch wide. My lawn is still a bit lumpy and I’m about to bring in 4 yards of volleyball sand to smooth out the lumps. That should make my yard look even better. Overall I’m happy with my purchase. Value for the Dollar I think it’s over priced for its size. But I get that it’s new and the 1st n the industry at this level of quality. My kids still mow 30+lawns a week in our neighborhood. They use all EGO equipment.

He seems like a good guy and genuinely concerned about the low cut. I would love to have one of these. But we grow St Augustine and I dont hear of anyone reel mowing it because it needs to be cut much higher. I cut my lawn at 4.5 inches. I do love the idea of having the cartridges so I could use the verti cut (or however you spell it) which I think I could do on St Augustine.
@vk2him2 жыл бұрын
I'm in Australia and have St Augustine - over here we call it Buffalo grass. I have an Allett Kensington and it's cut just under an inch in height which is what we do over here - I never understand why Americans cut your grass so high, it looks so much tidier when it's lower. Verticutting St Augustine isn't a good idea unless you're doing a full renovation - it tends to rip out the grass and it's too aggressive, better to use the scarifier on St Augustine
@toddfromflorida2 жыл бұрын
@@vk2him I've heard some say that buffalo grass and St Augustine are the same. But I have heard equal numbers say they are different. Maybe buffalo grass is just one variety of St Augustine and it may have much different growth habits that what we use in my part of the USA. I can tell you with 100% certainty that St Augustine varieties that we specifically grow in Florida grow better at around 3-4 inches. The varieties we use are Floratam, 'Classic', among others. I think you would be surprised at how nice and tidy my grass looks. Edged up nice with a smooth cut at 4.5 inches. So thick it is almost hard to walk through. I did read about a few varieties like Palmetto that can be cut 1.5-2.5 inches. That may be similar to the variety you have over there. When you let the grass grow more leaf, it can use the blades as reservoirs for moisture when we get into the 90-100 degrees f with no rain. I imagine your weather is similar.
