The MT653DR is different than the MT654CR... one is mid-range and the other a crossover. MT653DR = 4 automatic speeds, plus a very low gear (deep ratio) that is manually shifted. MT654CR = 5 automatic speeds, close ratio (short fourth)

I have a 2001 Freightliner fl60 with a push button controller automatic allison transmission and I'm having similar problems, when I put it in drive and start to move it starts out on the display showing 6 gear and then it jumps down to number 1 and it does not shift up it stays in first gear and then it won't let me put it in neutral or even reverse I have to turn the truck off let it sit for a little bit then turn it back on and it will be back in neutral and then reverse will work, I don't know which model allison transmission is in this vehicle how do I determine which transmission it is, that way if it is the same transmission as in your video I can go through the steps and see the governor switch is bad or not, also the truck has been sitting for about three years and before it was parked the transmission shift fine so I don't know if that has anything to do with it but the transmission did have fluid and there was no leaks

I got mt643. Late shfting Hight rpm trying to put it lower shifting. Givernor has both spring in place.. I dont know if springs should have any resistence ??

With this same transmission, what would make it not shift into 5th gear, it shifts 1-4 with no issues, but wont shift into 5th.

Grease Monkey101 You were lucky to find a spring close enough to make it shift. Very Lucky. LOL The 1-2 shift point is Non Modulated on the 654's, it is set very low for that reason. What is that a DT-466?? 2600 rpm natural in front of it?

Good work mate,proves there no substitute for good testing and getting the facts rather than guessing. Would of been steered towards governor filter change/ clean. Is spring failure like that common? You got any figures for what the pressure should be there?

Check that Gov screen bud! Probably blocked solid. Thin needle nose to remove.
