Derek's solo is so beautiful. You can still sense the original version in his playing, but he mixes it extremely well with his own style. This is as close to Dickey and Duane as I can hope for as a die-hard ABB fan, the fact that they're keeping the music brings me so much joy.

I sure do wish i could get my mitts on a master soundboard of the show of which the Sweet Papa John thats on the Captured Live album because in my opinion thats the best version of that song anywhere on the Internet or in my collection! So if there's anyone here who knows if it even exists as a whole complete concert as a master soundboard please upload it here or send me a message or something cause its 2025 and im still searching for it 50 years on! Thanks for all your Johnny uploads im certain everyone appreciates it a great deal as i do! Hopefully someone reading this has access to Johnny's live vault and lets keep the Johnny train rolling on! I have about 300 gigs of Johnny including all the releases but it aint enough! Again thanks a ton!

How come not as obvious to me? Seen his (Derek Trucks) band warm up for Gov’t Mule in the 90’s. Derek had zero stage presence. Not even the best slide player when he was in the Allman Bros. In the 90’s, Warren was actually. See I am listening to his Indian influenced licks right now & can personally do without. I mean sure he is a professional player & if he sucked Clapton wouldn’t have toured with him. Guess at the end of the day Dickey Betts is my guy & him with Warren was best dream team since Duane & Dickey. Still cannot get over Dickey getting the boot. Actually prefer Warren’s slide playing over Derek’s every day of the week. Then there is the nonsense that Derek was even better than Duane Allman. Copying one’s licks that were laid down decades before is not the same as writing the music in the first place!

+Ryan Hunt so true! SUNY has the greatest playing ever recorded! I agree. This group of musicians reminds us of The Allman Brothers, however it is not The Allman Brothers. They are nothing more than a tribute band. Cold, hard truth is that when Duane died so did the Allman Brothers band
@barryfohn43856 жыл бұрын
Dickey was good but face it Duane was the best. Derek says that 70% of his style comes from listening to recordings of Duane. You can hear that in his playing. I believe that Derek has taken Duane's technique to the next level. After all Duane passed just B-4 his 25th B-day.
@RydynShotgun6 жыл бұрын
Too slow and I realize that Derrick is an incredible guitarist but his noodling during the melody is quite annoying. Sometimes it's not what you play but what you don't play that really shows how good a guitarist really is. It took me a while to figure that out. Lay back and listen to the bass, keys, and percussion. But seriously, this song just isn't the same without Dickey singing and his fimiliar guitar playing.
@devindevine68874 жыл бұрын
Savage_ One - you know it’s kind of strange. I usually love Derek but his solo was pretty weak here. I don’t think he was comfortable. The slide helped him pick it up a shit ton, though. That’s always seemed to be his neck of the woods, anyways.

Warren and Derek are not only superior players -- check out their respective bands live...flippin unreal -- but they are kind and loving souls. The world is better because they exist. Can't say that about DB. I hope he is clean and i hope he is happy. Duane Allman? The best there ever was. These are all terrific musicians and the song sounds excellent. I take nothing away from them…..but this is not The Allman Brothers. No Dickey means no Allman Brothers….still it is great music performed by outstanding musicians. Dickey was alive and was a founding member not to mention he wrote their biggest hit: Ramblin Man. He also gave them the jazz harmonic inflection and country inflections - those came straight from Dickey. After Duane passed I don’t know how far they would have gone without Dickey’s songs….its a question. Duane was the king and Greggs voice was the stamp of authority….but you just cannot have the Allman Brothers without Dickey on that stage…..sure you can play the music, and play it well, but it ain’t the ABB.
