You missed a song in this album, the name is confusing because Spotify called it "So 4 more" but as you saw it's their 1st anniversary song on KZbin, not the one on their album, and its name is "2nd grade", I hope you'll react to it later 😅

They weren't forcing it though. By Korean standards only three of them were adults. One had just graduated high school and three others were still in high school when this came out. They were talking about their age and peers. The problem is you started from the wrong end and know ADULT BTS when many of us saw their teenage days. This song is accurately describing what they all went thru or are going thru becoming men.

War of Hormone got a lot of push back for being mysoginistic, but I always thought it was a pretty real representation of how boys/young men think and a fun song. However, RM took the criticism to heart and often runs his lyrics by women’s study professors. Also note that the girl in the video picks the guy herself (V) after rejecting j-hope and his car. Last, V also slaps Jimin’s butt earlier in the video.

I never understood the problem some people had with War Of Hormone; but then I came to BTS years later. But I have never once found it offensive, or in anyway demeaning to women (and I say this as a 55 year old woman). As you say, it is an open, honest, and funny, look at the realities of being a boy/young man. And that's perfectly okay. I have repeatedly said that, with a few minor word changes, this song could easily - and just as honestly - be song by a group of young females. Because guess what - when those hormones kick in, and we start looking at boys as "boys" - girls are NO DIFFERENT. War Of Hormone has always been - and continues to be part of my (admittedly insanely crazily crowded) Top 10 BTS songs. I love it. And I love Danger too. If I had found BTS in 2014, Danger would have pulled me in, and War Of Hormone would only have solidified their grip.

They actually have two songs that go by "2nd Grade" or "So 4 More", you listened to the one that wasn't on this album 😂 it's still a great song, but the one you heard was an anniversary song! The 2nd Grade that's on this album is more bouncy, it's one of my favorites if you want to go back and listen to it at some point!

If you ever want to give War of Hormone a second chance, you should check out their performances from back then-it was so much fun, chaotic, and unique each time 😂 As for the lyrics, ARMYs have already said a lot about it, but I want to add that as a woman (and I know many women feel the same way), I don't see the lyrics as misogynistic, but rather as a reflection of a mindset from an era where these kinds of topics weren't really discussed yet (in SK). Personally, I still enjoy the song a lot, and I'm a bit sad that it won’t be performed again 😅

"Dark and Wild" is the best album for me and I guess most of the Armys will agree to this !! Although "Danger" flopped and this album was not much successful !! All the songs in this album are so amazing both musically and lyrically !! As for "War Of Hormones", I find it very fun and for the lyrics...they did receive so much backlash and ever since then RM always gets his lyrics checked by a Women's study professor and he did admit it on camera !! But I think it was something which every young boy feels at that certain age...It's just a silly and hilarious song for me...... And as much as I know They never performed this song except for the promotions of this album !! And I Believe that if they will ever perform "War Of Hormone" in future...Then they will surely change the lyrics cause they do change some of the lyrics for their old songs !!
@leahwarburtonАй бұрын
The thing is - girls are just the same when we start looking at boys as BOYS. And a group of girls could easily, and honestly, sing this song - with the tiniest of changes (girls to boys, etc.). And I wonder - would it then have gotten the same backlash. If not - wouldn't that be a clear double standard? I LOVE War Of Hormone. It always makes me smile. And have NEVER once been offended by it. In fact, I honestly struggle to see how you could be - unless you were actively TRYING to be offended.

The BTS rappers would create long playlists of hip-hop songs of the time and sit the vocal line down to tell them to please listen to the music. RM almost cried one time saying Listen to music! You need to understand the music! V took it to heart and listened. Even today he constantly listens to all genres of music. Jin’s older brother loved hip-hop, so Jin already listened to it quite a bit. JK admitted later that he never listened to the playlists the rappers created. I don’t know about Jimin.

I think War of Hormone was seen negatively at the time of the release- claims of misogyny. I think RM was schooled by a national women's group, so much so that for a long time, the group had their lyrics 'vetted' by a women's rights group to ensure that the lyrics were not offensive to women.💜

2013 army here with some history~ this album was kind of up and down when it came out, the boys went through a lot to even get it out and armys were really excited for it, we were trying so hard to get them their first music show win, but they hadn't really gotten very far with their previous titles that were more focused on going against the grain. Its a little different now as the feedback and revenue stream have shifted from network broadcasts to fan-fueled spaces, but back then if you didn't have any music show wins under your belt within the first 1-2 years you really didn't have much of a future in the industry and on top of all of that the company was facing a lot of money issues so i think everyone was feeling that pressure. Yoongi and Joon have talked a lot about how I Need U and HYYH1 was going to be their swan song if it didnt do numbers, and lucky for all of us, they finally got their win AND it was with a song they were proud of. Danger and War of Hormone really fit into the landscape of what popular kpop sounded and looked like at the time. Rough and gritty visuals, surface level, kinda immature and 'greasy' lyrics so from our POV it was them trying their best to get a win and we did the best we could as a smaller and heavily international fandom (voting and statistics were mostly gathered from Korean IP's so shoutout to the K-diamonds for holdin it down and putting in the work 💜). Even then, overall it was a pretty mid return for the amount of work they put into the rest of the album where they were speaking more from the poetry and for the music rather than the broadcasts. Personally i love war of hormone for the goofy sound, the dance, and the stages were very silly, like they were being ironic and making fun of that brand of song but lyrically it just aint it and i understand completely why they've retired it. It'd be hella weird if they did it now in full seriousness as grown ass men, and they know that. These days Dark and Wild is an absolute staple for the hip hop/rap enthusiasts and it has such solid vocal songs, its very well loved for all its rough edges and its emotional moments and its also taught us that we can move on and let some things rest in the time when they were made. Loved the reaction as always!! so fun to go on this journey with you, cant wait for you to get to HYYH and wings!

@seokjinthusiastАй бұрын
I think that while the lyrics for War of Hormone weren't meaningful and could be interpreted as misogynistic, they were all so young and it was a time when they were really trying hard to be noticed. To me, it feels like a song they made because they thought they had to. Songs about teenage romance is pretty much the standard for most groups, whether it's a boy group or a girl group. How many songs about young love have we all, as kpop listeners, have heard throughout the years? It's a staple. And I think BTS went about it in their own style. I'm able to separate the unrelatable and somewhat cringey lyrics and just enjoy the sound of the music and their voices. The production quality has always been top notch for these guys. They made this album in a little garage with crowded with equipment. It's an amazing album and I don't think this song was meant in any malicious or offensive way. It just doesn't any significant meaning other than teenage hormones taken in a very assertive and straightforward way, fused with their own talent and style. The forced masculinity would be a turn off if I didn't already know they were absolutely upstanding and respectful men. If I didn't know they had already moved past this and always strive to be better than they were, maybe this song wouldn't be on my playlist. But it is. Because regardless of the lyrics, which I can ignore, it's a catchy song. It's sooooo catchy. I love the melody, I love the chorus. I love their vocals and their rap style. I love them all so much. These seven boys who have shown us so many different ways they've expressed themselves and made a conscious effort to live with love and kindness. This song may not have been the best at the time, nor did it completely age well, but it's still good. 💜 one slightly cringey (lyrics-wise) song in a god tier album isn't much of a hindrance lol ☺️☺️ I can also appreciate some of the creative ways they wrote the lyrics, even if the content itself isn't something I care for. I can still appreciate the creativity and hard work and skill that it took to make it. They have always been so hardworking. This album deserved more attention and recognition. I'm glad people are seeing them for their true artistry. 💜💜💜 also, this is my personal opinion, but I never completely was comfortable with the burden of expectations where society was trying to make us believe that having love and relationships always on our minds was normal and a given. I thought I was supposed to always be thinking about boys and wanting to be liked by boys and making myself pretty. I thought I was supposed to want to be wanted. And it shaped my young mind in a very horrible way. I became so insecure, constantly compared myself with others, and beat myself up when boys didn't like me. I thought I was supposed to want it. And it's really sad to think about how love and relationships was pushed onto us. As kids. It's disheartening to have people constantly say, "well this is what every young person is thinking of. of course this is just what people this age think about" when I didn't want to be thinking about it. It made me deeply uncomfortable to think about having a person look at me in certain ways. I didn't know then what it meant to be "liked", all I knew was that I was supposed to be actively trying to make it happen. And it ended up with less than desirable results. I forced myself into bad situations because I thought I was supposed to want it. Because no one in my life was telling me that wanting a boyfriend wasn't the most important thing in my life. It ruined my mental stability. And while I can listen to music about young "love" and relationships, I don't resonate with it. I find self reflection and self love and kindness and compassion and intellectual honesty and creativity much more compelling and inspiring and impactful. I LOVE BTS with all my heart and their music and various content has helped me through incredibly difficult moments in my life. I've seen them live three times and Yoongi once. It was life changing and I'll forever be grateful I've discovered them. I don't think they were writing this type of lyrics because it's what they were constantly thinking about at that age (not all of them were still teenagers in 2014), I think it's just something that worked, something that would garner attention. Something that a lot of people could jam to. But I think it's misleading to say that everyone could relate to it and that it's the only thing on young people's minds. Again, just my own personal opinion based on my own personal experiences. Don't take this as an attack on your perspective or mindset. I don't want to disrespect you or make it seem like I'm disrespecting the guys, either. Maybe they were crushing on someone and put it in their earlier music. It's not like I'd know. It's just how I feel. I love your attention to detail and your genuine enthusiasm when delving deeper into BTS' music. You have lots of fun and always enjoy the experience. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and for creating such a nice space to come and enjoy BTS together. 💜💜💜💜💜

Funny things about Dark and Wild album: this album pushed the SK cultural and societal thoughts to where you could see older SK women clutching their pearls! Danger wasn't a success because the sexually aware girl was stringing the guy along, and he wanted, even demanded confirmation or else she would be in "danger" of losing their relationship; AND cue the clutching of pearls!!!!!! But hell, as a woman, I love this song!!!!! War of Hormones was thought to be misogynistic, objectifying women as "the best gift" while women objectified our OT7!!!! 😅😅😂😂 This gave us RM's apology song, the crazy fun and cool - 21st Century Girl. This Silver Army listens to her Suga and puts her "hands up" and to her V to now "scream" - 😅😅😂😂 Hip-hop Lover was a cool OT7 song; RM and Suga made mixtapes for the others to listen to absorb different music genres!!!! Let Me Know, a more R&B leaning song, using V's vocal tone beautifully, produced by Suga. Rain is another heavier R&B leaning song! The ending songs are beautifully typical BTS lyrics and sounds we love to hear!!!!! This 2014 album was almost their last, as it was around this time BigHit was starting to lose investors, running out of funding, and was going to, once again, consider declaring bankruptcy!!! But they stuck it out!!! Because of so many issues, this was considered a pivotal album, as a turning point for BTS. Borahae 💜 💜 💜 💜 💜 💜 💜
