Tuesday 14th May 2019, and LNER ran the first of its Hitachi #Azuma trains for a Press trip between London Kings Cross and Peterbrough, and back again.
We were delighted to be invited on board, as they launched their new train and we got to explore first class, standard class, the kitchen areas, and talk to the brilliant staff on board.
As from 15th May 2019, these trains are now being rolled out on the LNER network to Leeds, Hull and beyond ...
Thanks to LNER for inviting us along, especially Kate and Richard for helping us out on the day.

@@Dave_Sisson The explanation for arguments and Peterborough is found in kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZmKke3SNfbOXa9E and for mention of what went wrong see kzbin.info/www/bejne/aIWzZHhmiMisntU I think that two things happened that day in Peterborough and the second (BBC) video gets the order wrong. Firstly, there was a missed connection due to a late incoming train, which was the departing train that you saw. They then decided to do a Vicki explores Peterborough, but perhaps she was late back for plan B leading to a further delay and the need to switch to plan C. Frankly, how well Geoff and Vicki got on is a testament to the strength of what they have together. There must have been many times when they were tired and things went wrong, but it seems they took so much in their strides.

-And here we have the antique series 800 passenger trains of London and North Eastern Railway, which have been famous over the century, for giving a newtrain experience to the passenger. -Excuseme, what's "newtrain"? -Newtrain is a term, brought to public in summer of 2019 by an old chap, called Geoff Marshall. Basically it means "excited beyound belief". -Geoff Marshall, you mean the HSXL lines president? -Yes, the same fellow, that brought us the famous HMU network.

Of course down in our neck of the woods on GWR, we've been experiencing the 800's with the ones they are using for the Penzance to Paddington runs. But they look terrific and I hope LNER have the same success with them as we are down here in GWR land.

@Peter Mitchell I've heard that there are a lot of both internal and external discussions ongoing to bring the buffet carriages back into service on GWR on the new Intercity Express Trains. There is also a public petition at you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/great-western-railway-bring-back-the-buffet which may help with this decision...? The buffet carriages do exist and are sitting in a siding somewhere apparently....

@@davidmilne5122 i go on the new gwr 800s quite a lot (live in Bath) and when he said they had a buffet car my jaw sort of dropped because recognising this train and then having the luxury of a buffet car in the middle is sort of perfect. it cant get better. it shows too that it takes so little space and we all know how annoying it is to get stuck behind the trolley. not only that but most of the time there is only a trolley on one half and ive been on one where they claimed that and still didnt serve even though i got on at paddington. (sorry about that rant) just bring back the buffet. its better in every way

Major timetable changes must be a headache for the timetablers, as GTR found out, I wonder do they still use a time/ distance graph to do it manually or have computers taken over? Which might explain last years cock ups, at least with a graph a glance will tell one there is two trains on the same track section at the same time, rather than wait for trains backing up on reds. At least a human can allow variable variables, a computer only follows a programme.

Compared to the newer trains like the 377/6s and 7s, 387s, 700s well basically all trains with iron board seats I’ve never really felt a difference I don’t know why.

Yes. They may be new and more efficient, but you can’t beat the good old Intercity 125 HST. Can’t beat good old British Engineering at it’s finest. Or the Intercity 225 for that matter, which isn’t 30 years old yet.

The interior reminded me of the Narita Express in Tokyo when I was there in 2014. When I looked up both trains they look totally different... Fast trains in Australia are totally non existent. A fast train is a modern train on a track that was built for steam locomotives. That's why I loved the Shinkansen in Japan, together with the Narita Express of course.

Smoke to introduce the train. I'd like to see something a bit more modern, maybe a few Tesla coils? 😅

yeah but if the network rail only allows 125mph anyway... i guess they wouldnt want to spend too much money on unnecessarily modern and fast trains. but i get your point.

I just lean my head directly against the window and fall asleep even on the New York Subway which definitely shakes a lot more than an Azuma train.

Geoff. You are so right about having a buffet. On GWR the same trains don’t have a buffet. Often takes hours for the trolley to appear

The new train pulled in next to an Intercity 125 which was designed and built in the UK by British Rail Engineering and has been the finest long serving reliable locomotive we have ever had in the United Kingdom. So what happened, and why are we importing trains from Japan when we had the expertise and workmanship to do it all ourselves ?
@timhancock6626
@timhancock6626 5 жыл бұрын
@@Bungle2010 They are imported. There is no bodywork construction done in the UK. They come from Japan as completed shells and the interiors are finished here at Newton Aycliffe. They like you to think they are a British product for political reasons.
@timhancock6626
@timhancock6626 5 жыл бұрын
@@Bungle2010 They are 'assembled' in the UK, but its not a British design and as I said before all the carriages are made in Japan in the Hitachi plant at Kasado. Sorry, but we are just have a sub assembly function and not a design and build. Big come down from the HS125 and the APT we gave away far too soon and eagerly.
