Fiesta blower only works on setting 4!! - heater resistor replacement 2012 to 2016

Like others I'm not entirely sure about the soundtrack but the content here is sound. £15 part from Amazon and 5 mins rooting around in the passenger footwell fixed my daughter's Fiesta and saved me from a nice bill from Ford. Easy job even for someone who is normally hopeless at this kind of thing...

This happened to me last week, found this video, part ordered off Amazon for about £13, fitted in less than 20 minutes. Make sure the metal connectors (probably have a technical name) on the new part match the wired plug, I fitted my new resistor then couldn’t connect to the plug, took it back out and had to slightly straighten the metal connectors in the new part. Fitted fine after this and worked. I replaced the cabin filter at the same time from the drivers side as suggested in one of the other comments, all in about £25 and 30 minutes work for a novice. Thanks for the video, saved me at least £60 in labour at a garage

TOP TIP:- When changing the resistor, change the pollen filter too. The resistor probably went in the first place because the pollen filter is too dirty. If you don't change it, the new resistor might last only a few months.

Same on a 07 plate. Just the resistor element is harder to get to under the right drivers side. Cheers for the help

Thanks for this tutorial, i had originally opened up the trim by the clutch and realised it wasnt there, then found a comment about the passenger side and then it was a 5 minute job, bloody tight to manoeuvre though 😂 this is for RHD BTW

I bought the resistor all ready to get this done - of course I can’t get the side panel off - the screw keeps turning and turning with no sign of it coming out - do I just yank it?!

Jim, and when does the fan stop intermittently? My fan sometimes just shuts down and starts working again. I couldn't find any apparent cause that would cause it to stop or even cause it to start working again. Sometimes it works again in seconds, other times it takes more than 30 minutes

Hi, Erm to me if I were to start looking at that sort of problem I would probably start by looking at the heater motor first, sounds abit like it may get to hot and a contact in the circuit somewhere opens and stops it working, then as it cools, it connects and starts up again - this is an educated guess though obviously id test all components but id likely start with the motor, probably run it until it starts doing it then feel it to see if its getting excessively hot, smells fried, power probe it to see if it works etc... hope that makes some sort of sense

It's a bit late, but I had such a problem on a different vehicle (GM). The blower would sometimes not come on initially, but after driving it would sometimes start up. It turned out the blower motor needed replacing. Tapping on it with a hammer would temporarily get it running again. I guess that bumps in the road was having the same effect for a time, but finally it went out completely. I lived with the problem for several years until forced to replace the blower motor, which I found on Amazon. In that vehicle, it just took 5 minutes and a screwdriver to replace. I recommend getting the original manufacturer's part, not a knock-off which may not work well.

What if it’s working on other setting but barley anything coming out of vents .. basically my vents will only put out as if it’s on the first setting so week on all setting

No that sounds like a different problem if its still working (blowing) on 1,2,3 also. Id suggest looking at your coolant level first, it may be low/ empty due to a leak. If it is fill it to the max mark and get someome to rev the car (or use a lever bar and wedge it between seat and throttle) around 2 thousand rpm until hot air comes through, while you look for a leak, what car is it?

Im not entirely sure what you mean bit of its can i unscrew the resistor and pull it out while its plugged in so you can get a better grip on it to pull the plug off then i cant see why not, just make sure the ignition is off 👍

If there is very little air coming out even on the highest setting and it sounds like its working on all setings, it may be that your actual blower motor is faulty, sounds silly but have you made sure no ones shut your blow vents. Also check your switches and the sections between settings sometimes the selector units can go dodgy and the blow settings not match up with the chosen picture

If this video hadn't been made I'd have had to drive 300 miles with the fan on '4' or 'off', and looking forward to spending £120 after Xmas. As it is, I ordered the part off amazon, which arrived the next day, and took me 15 minutes to fit. I'll put up with whatever awful music you like.

Strangely mine works on 3 and 4. It is just 1 and 2 that do not work. I'm guessing it is still a problem with the resistor. I don't think it would be the motor itself or the switch.

If you mean is it the same on a 2017 im not sure off the top of my head, if you mean is it the same principle that of the heater only works on 1 setting and not others then yes it should be 👍
