That was cool video of you getting to Clearwater Beach. The bridge you went over is one of the few areas in Clearwater to get some elevation. Within a few kilometer south of the beach there two more bridges to go over. I usually call the 3 bridges ride on Strava.

Riding in Florida during the summer fill your bottles with ice and electrolytes, the humidity is a lot harder on your body than you think. Also try to avoid solids while riding it’s a lot harder to digest them in the extreme heat.

I live in Weston Florida and there are more that 5 raids of different speed, from very fast to very chill recovery raids every morning. Every single road has a bike line and is an area where there’s not much creazy traffic like in the big cities. If anyone is trying to ride a bike in florida check this places out you will love it ...

West FL is much better for riding. I’m from Indiana but take regular training trips to Naples, FL in the winter. There’s a great group and routes there, if you’re looking for a place in FL again check it out!

Be careful. Last time I was in Florida had a log truck lock down the trailer as he passed me then made a right hand turn in front of me cutting me off. I'm a nice guy but I was ready to throw down! The beginning of A1A was about as sketchy as I have ever seen on a bike. Traffic was nuts the gutter was filled with glass and god knows what else and there were barricades from construction pinning you in with traffic. Had the gravel bike with 40s and had a great time riding down the beach from basically Amelia Island I think it was down to Daytona Beach. Didn't even mind the 25 mph head wind. One of the best rides ever.

Florida is quite different to where you normally travel, but actually there are quite a few good trails. My house is over on the west site of florida, the withaloochie trail runs from Ocala down to the Tampa area, in tampa-st pete there are loads of trails, the Pinellas trail runs from St Petersburg up to clearwater and beyond. Have a Nice trip and stay away from the Gators, and snakes.

You should ride down in the Keys. It's beautiful and there is a path that goes down all the way to the southern end. I started riding my bike (mainly commuting) around Miami, and I didn't find it That dangerous. And yes the humidity is super high. I would drink so much water/gatorade when riding down there.

Usually a “recovery” drink. So electrolytes, high carb and little protein. I use different brands. Look for 2:1 carb vs protein

Cycling on Florida roads is not too bad. The time of day you choose to be on a designated busy road or area is the secret to minimizing potential incidents. Also, using hand signals is important. Wave people behind you to pass (if it’s safe) and wave ‘nicely’ to people that give you the right of way. The cars in front of you making turns into the road are where many accidents can happen, so I suggest you light up. At least 1 flashing headlight, 1 rear flashing tail light and 1 flashing light on the back of your helmet. And yes, this is during the day. Some regular bike commuters wear green ‘reflective’ safety vest while cycling. The more visible you are and the more you appear actively aware of the cars close you, the more likely you will have very few people trying to run you off the road or yelling at you. Anything less is pure ignorance. Stay safe and welcome to Florida.

If it’s low intensity I don’t find a difference in power. I find my heart rate is lower. It will ride as soon as I start eating during the ride (normal because digestion starts and takes up energy) I don’t blink if I start eating writhing the first 2,5 hours no matter how long the ride and how long the fast has been

Great video. I lived in FL for nine years (Tallahassee). There are alligators. Mosquitos. Equatorial heat. Insane morons in enormous trucks who think cyclists are targets. Terrible food. And the sunshine is a lie. In most years in June it will rain most afternoons from 2 to 4 p.m. Torrential tropical rain. Except for the days when there is torrential rain all day. I couldn't wait to leave. Houston has many of the same problems for cyclists but food is great and there is culture beyond Disneyworld. Jasper be careful. It is not easy there. And watch your hydration. Add electrolytes to your water. NUUN is good. It is far worse than LA heat. Really early in the morning helps with heat and traffic. Heat is poor man's altitude. You can find some country roads that will be better for training. Locals will know them.
