I don't get what the big problem with dimming is for desktop use. I disabled it with the technician remote control on my C2. I spend around 12 hours a day every day on it using it as an office monitor and also for gaming. It's so bright that I just keep the OLED pixel brightness always between 35-45 (and sometimes even that feels almost too bright) and I do at least once a week the pixel cleaning process. There are absolutely no signs of burn in. IMHO if we're being practical: $1k and being able to work and game every day on it even if it ends up lasting only 2 years with no burn-in is a money well-invested. I just can't go back to punishing my eyeballs with regular monitors or small screen real-estate.

To be fair, it really depends where you use your TV. If its in a dark room, it still gets plenty bright. My LG CX has to be turned down in some cases because in a pitch black room, it can still blind you lol. But if you turn on the lights, then yeah its not "bright enough" to make it pop, and some content can look dark. That said, i've loved my LG CX for years, and this seems to be close to that, so personally it doesnt bother me, but I do wish it had the option to go brighter.

The LG OLED G4 seems to be having a significant issue with HDMI2 (eARC). Connecting external video sources to HDMI2 (which work on the other the other 3 HDMIs) do not produce an image (but you can hear sound). I have done all the troubleshooting in the world in order to try to isolate the issue to no avail (changing HDMI cables, factory resets, hard resets, removing the HDMIs one by one and re-adding them one by one, turned off HD color). Nothing works. The interesting thing is that this issue temporarily goes away with a hard reset, but it quickly returns. After unsuccessful attempts at getting effective tech support from LG, I purchased a second 65 G4. Exact same issue! On 4/4/24, LG pushed down an update 3.10.27 which has not resolved the prob(in fact, it's not even addressed in the release notes). I should also point out that the setup I am using is the exact setup I have had with a C9, CX and a C3 just before getting the G4. This HDMI2 issue never occurred with the other TVs. The devices I am talking about which work on other HDMIs but not in HDMI2 of the above-referenced TVs are Fire TV 4K stick, Nintendo Switch, Apple TV 4K and PS5. If this is a software issue, then it can hopefully be addressed quickly by LG, seeing that the G4 is their flagship OLED and the problem is with the most important HDMI - the HDMI2. However, if this is a hardware problem (difficult to believe that both units were defective - in fact, I heard from another LG customer that he is having the same issue with a 83 G4), then LG has its work cut out for it. I can't think of many people who would be willing to wait for a hardware fix which would require for a part to be replaced by a tech's visit on a brand new TV which has been lauded by LG as ground-breaking. All this would be very easily clarified by LG, but up until this point, it seems to be pushing customers (at least me) to an endless loop of bad customer service and then either that (a) the unit is defective and sine it's under the 30 (or 60 in my case) day return period, it can be returned, or (b) to send a tech to diagnose the issue. What exactly the tech would do beyond what i have done to troubleshoot has not been communicated by LG (unless they believe I would be conformable in having the tech open up a brand new TV and start exploring . . .). This is very disappointing. I hope that the various reviewers take note of this very easily identifiable problem (all you have to do is connect a few video sources into HDMI2 and observe for a few hours while turning the TV off and on an again). This way, the interested customers would be informed and LG would provide some information on this issue.

So about as bright as an LG CX? Not bad given how the 42" LG TV's usually have their brightness significantly gimped. And I'd definitely take this over the 32" QD OLED's out now--better real scene brightness, and 144 hz is enough. I do agree that this shouldn't be more than $999 though.

You activate 144hz in monitor menu for PC use.

@AndytlpАй бұрын
42 inch is probably closer to a size people would use on their pc and not as actual tv. So blasting 700 nits into your eyes from 3 feet is not ideal. Even in day light or fully lit room.Youd go like 55 inch lg oled and the price is virtually the same and use that as tv from 10 feet away. Maybe 100 eur difference on a sale.

this TV on game mode cannot enable peak brightness to increase the brightness, so at 100% window it has 200ish nits. rtings site has given it a 6.4 in SDR brightness. this is not good TV for PC gaming.

Looking to upgrade from the C7, what are the differences between the C3 and C4. I’ll be using almost exclusively for content streaming and not gaming. I’ll be getting 55in or the 65in. Thanks.
@RaphaelZN23017 ай бұрын
Maybe I missed that, but why not include max brightness in SDR with game mode on? Is it more than ~190 nits which the C2 already had?

yes, but it's a bit over 200.

Please Help Me: I just installed this exact TV and only actions I’ve done so far is plug HDMI from new Mini Mac Pro and paired my HK speakers via BT and also plugged in the 3.5 jack as backup. I get some LG prompts asking for a code so it will default to I put it something but I can’t find any code waiting on screen or on any device and I’m stuck on this screen. Far as sound, i am hearing a random tick from the speakers when things are not making sound like a paused video or just on Home Screen as if someone is tinking with a cable. Should I remove the 3.5 jack and rely on BT for my HK sound sticks or use the 3.5 and not BT for the best audio experience possible? Do I need to shut off the TV speakers maybe as that might conflict or will that help with more stereo like sound?

Theres always so much focus on using these 42inch models as a monitor, but I'm more interested in using something like this for a smaller room where 55inches wouldnt be practical. If im watching an SDR TV broadcast or some old movies (not HDR) will it be too dim in anything but a dark room? The market for higher end TV's in smaller sizes is sadly very under-served.

So we still only have small upgrades over the old LG CX (which has 800 nits peak, 120hz). I would love to see a G4 in 42" with proper brightness - these mediocre C upgrades are not it.
@SapiaNt0mata13 күн бұрын
that's cause 42" don't have EVO panel that increases the brightness. if they release G4 in 42" it won't have MLA. Sony and Samsung do the same crap. Samsung S90C is QD Oled. the 42" size is not. it's WOLED. Sony does the same for the 42". if a TV is QD Oled, the 42" size is not. these are scam practices to make people pay more for the bigger sizes that have EVO, MLA, and QD Oled.
