I used to have noisy pumps in our old greenhouse (to water the plants remotely) they were so noises I built a small box around them and filled it with sand, they went from being able to be heard from the other end of the garden to virtually silent overnight lol

@@MrC3dr1cB I wouldn’t paint over fiberglass like that, paint the exhaust itself with that, or cerakote it if you care that much and then wrap it. You’ll be able to touch the exhaust and at most feel a little warmth if done right

@@KDlGG Cool-It High Heat Coating provides long lasting protection for any hot surface up to approx 800 degrees C. This coating is recommended for use with their exhaust wrap, as it seals the material and provides lasting protection from oil spills, dirt and road grime. Its use is by no means limited to use on exhaust wraps though, it works well on exhaust headers, engine blocks and starter motors etc.

Thanks. It's certainly made a difference in the noise levels, time will tell how quiet it really is when we build it into the base unit and it become further sound insulated. I am not convinced about how the exhaust pipe is secured, so I may revisit that later with a better jubilee clip than the manufacturer supplies. The intake hose is also rubbish, crushes too easily, and a better pipe is needed there.

I put a 1/10th watt LED light at the top of the end of the outside of the fuel tank top using adhesive aluminum duct tape. I can see the fuel level from 10 meters 33 feet away. The light had to be at the top as when I tried it at the tank bottom, the whole tank glowed green with diesel fuel and blurred the fuel level.

Neat job there. Nice one. It's great to get rid of noises in the van, as you do tend to pick up on things like that, especially when you live in the van. We haven't got one of those Chinese diesel heaters, but we have tinkered with the idea of the other type which has a separate tank. We're holding back at the moment, see how we cope this winter. lol.
@VintageRVAdventures
@VintageRVAdventures 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Andy. Yes, a 2kw tank-less version would suit your motorhome better. We have more work to do with the heater before we use it, including a method of sealing / enclosing all of the exhaust pipe, a feature to deal with on these units stood on legs, which will need some thought for me in the coming months. I will be using the heater in my garage over the next week, as I have some work to do in there for the RV 😃 I have central heating in there, but we are not using the house gas central heating at the moment.

Use Marigolds while wrapping. When wrapping is done, blow the wrap over with a plumber's blowtorch to melt the loose strands off. Remaining loose strand-ends will melt to little balls that can be brushed away outdoors,

Just use the original pump instead of wasting money on a different one. You can completely eliminate the sound by suspending the pump instead of solid mounting it. I used a small cable tie so the pump is at a 45 degree angle. Then make sure you wrap it in some kind of padding (a piece of pool noodle works prefect) or insulation of some kind. Anything to absorb the pulses. I can stand right by my heater and cannot hear the pump at all.

Would have been useful if you had shown us the sound after each modification. But thanks for the upload and it certainly made a difference. A lot of the pump and heater noise resonates through that cover so that was a good idea to put the sound deadening material on the inside. And those slits aren't air-vents - you were right second time - they are simply so you can see the fuel level.

@VintageRVAdventures
@VintageRVAdventures Жыл бұрын
A good question. So, the video is really about quietening the annoying click noise of the pump for the fuel. But, your issue with that kind of external set up will mean the fan and fuel burning noise (sounds like a jet engine) will certainly be an issue. I think you will struggle unless your box and and heater ducting is super insulated for sound.
