I like the branding. You should leave a space when you flip the iron so it doesnt look like four Xs.

a tip for branding it is to keep it in motion while heating. also roll it in one smooth motion. it wont ever really be perfect but you can practice on a piece of scrap.

Trying a color transfer could be interesting then see if it can be cleared over with SPRAY LACQUER

Full color transfer with the backing sheet works as well, quite a few "artististry" photographers have been doing this technique, transferring onto onto watercolor paper for a few years now. Quite a few books and web stuff on print settings and how to get the colors vibrant etc.

technicly, the best way to heat a branding iron is in the coals of a fire. this means that you now have a reason to fire up the charcoal grill! you do use charcoal, right? anyway, i also agree that when branding you should leave some space between the WW and MM. it took me a while to realize that the 4 X's were your logo.

The "I want to make toys" line grabbed my attention as well as a desire to comment. I am a live steam model railroader so I am interested in miniatures in 1/8th scale (1.5" to the foot). If it is at all possible could you make something in this large scale for the collectors as well as the children (I, myself am a 49 year old child). Or make things for the Breyer horse collector in 1/9th scale. All of your projects are inspiring in one way or another so keep up the good work.

Another tip would be to mount you torch so that you have fixed flame and can use both hands to control the heating. Also, warm up the root of the shaft a little as well, as this will otherwise have a slight "heat sink effect" (no need to get it red hot though).

to make a stamp i welded a large bolt(handle) to a 1/4" steel plate. they i welded letters on the stamp (BACKWARDS) then used a dremel to carve the letters finer. then angle grind it all smooth. use blow torch to heat up then brand something. if held to long it just get a blob and lots of stink.

Hey, Steve. I was just wondering if you have ever had the same problem I have with the acrylic paints. On one of my Christmas projects last year, I made some ornaments and painted them; spray primer, a coat of white spray paint, then the decorative parts I used acrylics. My problem was when I went to finish the project with spray lacquer, it smeared all of the acrylic paint, even though it had dried for about a day to a day and a half. Any ideas or alternative products/methods? Thanks, Joe Porter

I have a branding iron that I heat up on the camp stove. It seems to heat evenly in the flame. I always take a scrap of what I am branding to try a burn or two or three. Just use the stove on low as you don't want to warp the iron. Using the stove I can reheat the iron consistently to the same temp. In the test I count slowly to time the burn and adjust as needed.

I've noticed you've lost some weight...great job! I got my wife into running and she lost a lot of weight too. I still laugh when she first started when she asked when will running one mile get easier...I told her when she starts running two. The same happened when she started running two... :-). A few years later, she's now wanting to run a half marathon. I would be really interested in some toy projects...especially for our son.

you can make toys and donate them to some children's hospital. For the branding iron i think the best way is to put it in a bbq (under the charcoal) untill is red hot.

To evenly heat the brand, I'd heat it up best I could, then to spread it out evenly, hold the blow torch to the side so the flame licks over the branding edge. either that or throw it in a fire. To brand evenly, press down firmly, then move the handle in a circular motion being careful not to move the brand, this'll make sure you get all of the brand on the wood.
