Lots of energy and enthusiasm 😂 enjoyed the video! One tip: I work for the largest utility/energy company in Michigan. We tell our customers NEVER use space heaters. They pull a lot of energy and will make your bill go sky high!
@AlmostRetiredinMexico
@AlmostRetiredinMexico Ай бұрын
Thanks for the tip. I'm not sure what kind of heat Suki has in her NC house, but it's probably more efficient than space heaters. In Mexico, almost everyone has mini-splits, which are very energy efficient (but probably not a great match for Michigan winters!)

Hey there Brice, we chatted once before about a builder named Francisco. We have since been to La Paz where we had an appointment with a realtor named Karen (great realtor). Met Francisco also and looked at his current build, however a bit out of our budget. We ended up buying a tract house at the top of 10th, it will be complete in a year.
@AlmostRetiredinMexico

Congrats on finding a place that met your budget. Francisco has been in high demand, so his prices have been going up. Will you be renting until the house is complete?

@@AlmostRetiredinMexico Everything is not expensive in NYC. Only imported products are. Most things are inexpensive in NYC actually compared to the rest of the USA. NYC is very third world actually because of all the illegal immigrants from places like Mexico and Venezuela. NYC is also very high in crime which is why rich people have left NYC.

How was she able to stay in Colombia more than 6 months without legal residency

Hopefully Suki will jump into the comments here, but I'll take a stab at answering. She mentioned starting a business in Colombia, so it's possible she got a visa that way.

@@AlmostRetiredinMexico I though the minimum investment 100k usd. In own an apartment over there and can only stay 6 months total per year. The apartment costs 60k not enough for investment visa.

Furthermore the money has to be deposited into bancolombia their national bank. I am asking because I would like to find a way to get a visa sino could spend more time over there as an American.
@SiestaWithSuki
@SiestaWithSuki Ай бұрын
I did start the process of being a legal resident in Colombia by starting a business. I am a bit of a stickler when it comes to the rules and since I travel with my family (including children), I would not feel comfortable putting them in a visa situation. Nevertheless, you can simply leave and return and remain legal. In addition, the real consideration is whether Colombia considers you a resident for the purposes of taxation. The rule used to be that if you spent more than 183 days in Colombia you were obligated to pay taxes on all your income earned, whether or not you had legal status.
@SiestaWithSuki
@SiestaWithSuki Ай бұрын
@@ericcolon2759 At the time, the minimum investment was 10k into a business. So not a real estate business but a business selling or involved with goods and services. As an owner of the business, I would hire myself and qualify under a work visa. I set up the business through a lawyer and it was up for a very short period. Just a caveat though, dissolving the business has turned out to be a multiyear process. I still get messages telling me that I owe business taxes even though I put in for the official dissolution 4 years ago. I had to pay the same amount to dissolve that I did to start the business so that is just FYI for you.
