4:38 On 24 January 1556, Humayun, with his arms full of books, was descending the staircase from his library Sher Mandal when the muezzin announced the Azaan (the call to prayer). It was his habit, wherever and whenever he heard the summons, to bow his knee in holy reverence. Trying to kneel, he caught his foot in his robe, slipped down several steps and hit his temple on a rugged stone edge. He died three days later.

A little anecdote from the Internet about the greatness... *As with theologians and court officials of Delhi Sultanate, his advisors counseled in favor of religious violence. Shaikh Nizam[who?], for example, counseled, "There is nothing equal to a religious war against the infidels. If you be slain you become a martyr, if you live you become a ghazi."[32] Sher Shah's Mughal army then attacked the fort of Kalinjar, captured it, killing every person inside that fort.[32]*

@@Teamup353 I said construction not mere maintenance. It's a fact that he prohibited construction of new temples. Dao Ji temple recieved grants for the upkeep, assuming that source is valid and it was not a work of local governor or Zamindar. As to Someshwar Temple pillar, inscription is not quite legible (even historians agree on this) But let's just give the benefit of doubt ad agree that he provided some lamd grants for the maintenance of old temples, still no New Temple constructed during his rule. In Mathura alone he destroyed new temples.

@@mr.comment8781 Get over the idea that Hinduism is ALL about worshipping (or not worshipping) idols. Idols are nothing but abstract representations of divinity in the way they are described in Vedic Hindu texts. Hinduism is about the wisdom and values of the various forms of divinity relayed through their stories. Idols only help the people remember the particular form of divinity at the time of prayer, simple. People in Vedic (and even before that in Indus Valley times) had sculptures of human and animal figures, which clearly show that they had some form of godly figures with form. We may have some parts of our texts talking about formless Gods, but as a community we are not monotheistic, we never were, and we will never be.

I don't know about Pakistan, but in Bangladesh, Islam came before the Mughal empire and mass conversions took place in some areas, through Sufi preachers and others such as Hazrat Shah Jalal in Sylhet. Also Bakhtiyar Khalji was the first person to bring Bengal under Muslim control- under the Ghaznavids. I don't think Bengal owes much to the Mughals as far as Islam is concerned. I also think that the Pakistani regions might also have a somewhat similar history. I heard that Pakistan region became majority Muslim, because of early missionary efforts that were supported by the Arab conquerers. Early Arab conquests were always accompanied with missionary work, something later dynasties such as the Mughals did not continue, which is why India is not a Muslim majority country.

12:36 Bahadur Shah sendiri meninggal pada tahun 1712 dan sebelum tahun 1720, terdapat dua lagi perang berturut-turut 12:42 sehingga pemerintahan Muhammad Shah (محمد شاہ) bermula. 13:02 Sekarang, mereka melihat Delhi sendiri.

6:57 The Hindustani word rupyā is derived from the Sanskrit word rūpya, which means "wrought silver, a coin of silver". It finds a mention in Arthashastra written by Chanakya, minister to the Emperor Chandragupta Maurya who mentions silver coins as rūpyarūpa. It seems that Hindu Nationalists will continue to live in your mind rent free despite the lies you tell yourself.

I would say that the Delhi sultanate caused more conversions to islam than Mughals. They were rather aggressive religiously, with Tughlaq era being the most oppressive for hindus. Mughals were largely secular compared to them, with the exception of Aurangzeb.
@AlMuqaddimahYT
@AlMuqaddimahYT 3 жыл бұрын
Conversions usually happen because of convenience rather than aggression of the ruling class. I'm not saying it doesn't happen but in most cases, it's not the driving force behind conversions. The Sufi Islam Mughals brought made it easier for Hindus to convert. With Sunni Islam, it was too unacceptable to Hindus since it was not only very different but also very rigid and even lower caste Hindus didn't convert early on because caste system was too deeply rooted in the people that even conversion didn't change their status.

Not many people know this but Pakistani Punjab didnt become Muslim majority until the last few decades of British rule. Before British rule, the only Muslim majority provinces of India were East Bengal (Bangladesh) , Sindh and Kashmir. In Punjab, Hindus and Sikhs combined were the majority for a long time. The Muslim population growth of Punjab was due to much higher birth rates. And surprisingly, although there around 200 million Punjabis today, before the 1860s, there were only about 4-5 million people in united Punjab. Muslims were scattered around in small populations around India. Back then, they accounted for less than 10% of the population. However, due to higher birth rates, they have managed to make up about 30-40% of the Subcontinents population. This shows that "Mass Conversion" was not a policy of Muslim Kingdoms and Empires. There were many forced conversions during times of war or rebellion and Sufis helped to spread Islam, especially in Bengal but it shows that making India Muslim majority was either an impossible feat or not a priority for the Muslim rulers.

Great work. Some comments: 1. Before Mughals, there was 3 centuries of Muslim rule of various dynasties collectively known as Delhi Sultanate. These were broadly either Afghan or Turkic. Babur took over from ‘Lodhi’ an Afghan. In the early years of Mughal rule there was power struggle between Afghan and Turkic as we see Suri re-establishing Afghan dominance. Akbar allied with Rajputs to increase the power base of Mughals. 2. Sikhism did not appear as a distinct religion during Jahangir’s time. Many Sikhs like many other Punjabi clans are of Rajput descent. They provided military service for the Mughals. Probably , Gurus saintly activities were deemed conflicting to military service for the Mughals. 3. Aurangzeb introduced austerity measures as the lavish spending during his father’s reign had depleted the treasury. As a result many Hindus who were affiliated with entertainment industry lost their job. This was projected as anti-Hinduism. 4. The Muslims were concentrated in large urban centers surrounded by farmland across north India as continuous culture connecting Pakistan and Bangladesh. With introduction of democracy and partition on the basis of religion, all these large urban centers got absorbed in India, leaving muslim concentration in west and east with no connection. 5. Hinduism was not defined as a religion until partition. The sufis spread Islam over several centuries by merely asking people to say the ‘shahada’ followed by no training. That’s why Islam is practiced much differently in India compared to other parts of the world. 6. Regarding Urdu-Hindi, it is actually Hindi that substituted several Arabic/Persian vocabulary by Sanskrit words. Just watch some pre-2000 Bollywood movies and compare with recent ones, and you will see the difference. Or listen to the old songs of Lata and Kishore. 7. The reason of Muslim power decline was rooted in dynastic system. However, when one family dynasty declined, another would replace it. Mughals started declining after 100 years, but they were not replaced until after another 200 years, eventually by the British. Nadir Shah and Ahmed Shah Abadali had the opportunity but showed interest in looting only. Another reason which is of more global significance was of negligence in sea. Muslims did not develop strong navy to protect their waters.

Further Sher Shah Suri wasn't the first one to use it . During the rule of Ashoka the great and the mauryas . The standard currency of indian subcontinent was known as rupyarupa (we have that coin in our museum dating to 200 bce ) . The only thing Sher Shah did unique was that he turned rupiya into the only legal tender which shall be used throughout his empire while in the previous cases versions of rupee were used along with various other regional currencies .

I usually don't really reply to comments like these but I'm bored today. First of all, my channel isn't about Islam, it's about the history of people who called themselves Muslims. Secondly, this was a brief overview of some 300 years of Mughal history and so, obviously not everything was covered. I did mention the good and the bad like how Jahangir killed a Sikh Guru and how Aurangzeb destroyed some temples. Just because I didn't cover everything, doesn't mean I'm trying to hide anything. I have never done that on my channel. You assuming that I'm a closeted Islamist because I didn't mention a few things is just like me assuming you're a Bhakt because you attacked Islam. Finally, I won't even respond to your criticism of Islam because all religions have somethings that haven't aged well. For instance, in Hinduism, you find stuff like Sati and the caste system but that is no reason to insult a religion. Finally, you'd know a fascist empire since, I assume, you live in India.

@@AlMuqaddimahYT Well, some more honesty here, shall we please - Can you really separate "people who called themselves Muslims" from Islam. Case in point: you showcase the golden age of Islam through the scientific strides made under the patronage of early Muslim rulers. Why is that video titled golden age of Islam, rather than, say, golden age of Middle East or Muslims. Cos they go together in the context of a) what's being discussed and b) the essential theme of your channel. What is Islam, or any culture, besides the practices and story of its people. I hold the same argument to those radical Hindus, who are utterly ignorant of their cultural heritage and knowledge, and perpetrate bigotry. Yes Hinduism also sucks on many accounts and didn't age well, to steal your argument. On India being fascist - Yes, understandably, fascist when seen from a pseudo-liberal kaleidoscope. But assuming your background is connected to the subcontinent, the statement is funny, given the 1400 history dominated with subjugation and coercion, I egged you to cover (even your own charts covering the Islamic family trees are laced with stories by murder incorporated, immediately after the great message of God was downloaded to Earth). If one is fed propoganda by Illuminatesque BBC or a schizophrenic PTV or has been influenced by Pakistani school curriculum (on a side note but still contextual: Murder of History in Pakistan by KK Aziz), it's hard to level and align. Let's be honest and see the degree of freedom and success Indian minorities enjoy, relative to the larger environment in Asia. It's a Hindu/Sikh/Buddhist/Dharmic environment that has allowed that degree of coexistence we enjoy. If you zoom out and pause, then the word Fascist might appear more synonymous with the essential character of your channel's central theme, rather than my country of birth. On things not aging well - Nice deflection but someone of your intellect cannot inadvertently ignore the VERY clearly stated practices from the numerous Hadees or the Holy book, recommended or prescribed. Anyhow, my sympathy lies with the followers who are more like victims of that hypnosis and not mere perpetrators. Stockholm Syndrome? The Walking Dead (bet you've heard of that show)? And of course, I understand it's not your topic here, but not for reasons you publicly state or defend. It's just uncomfortable for a sharp mind to go into. Anyhow, I should apologize since otherwise I appreciate and learn from your work; and have let my anger at the representation underplay the otherwise great quality of your storytelling, despite my disagreement with the story. You don't have to reply. I know you must be busy and can't be sooo bored that you engage wIth a fascist Indian. Peace.

@@AlMuqaddimahYT hey, I , having seen your other videos , do observe that how hard it is to be a liberal muslim, or a liberal religionist in any case. However, please do understand that due to general lack of Liberal Muslims in populace ( in India , generally ) , who can address the issues in their own faith, the non liberal Hindus (again, some of them, most Hindus are very liberal , but again, you could call me biased ) feel that they need to put "one up " against them , partly owing the the trauma , especially of destruction of temples which are the source of Hindu culture. I agree every facet of religion has its own pros and cons. It's not always easy to discuss them , but if I were to put in a way you would get it, most Hindus today either suffer from a form of PTSD or Stockholm Syndrome thanks to some cultural denigration. Hindu nationalist took note and can point you out: The history of the rupee traces back to ancient Indian subcontinent. The mention of rūpya by Pāṇini is seemingly the earliest reference in a text about coins. The term in Indian subcontinent was used for referring to a coin. The word "rupee" is derived from a Sanskrit word "rūpya", which means "wrought silver", and maybe also something stamped with an image or a coin. As an adjective it means "shapely", with a more specific meaning of "stamped, impressed", whence "coin". It is derived from the noun rūpa "shape, likeness, image".[citation needed] Arthashastra, written by Chanakya, prime minister to the first Maurya emperor Chandragupta Maurya (c. 340-290 BC), mentions silver coins as rūpyarūpa, other types including gold coins (suvarṇarūpa), copper coins (tāmrarūpa) and lead coins (sīsarūpa) are mentioned [This claim is disputed]. Rūpa means form or shape, example, rūpyarūpa, rūpya - wrought silver, rūpa - form. Sher Shah Suri, during his five-year rule from 1540 to 1545, set up a new civic and military administration and issued a coin of silver, weighing 178 grains, which was also termed Rupiya Just a superficial overview of India wouldn't help it, you'll have to read from a transparent and unbiased mindset with no superiority complex, and then you may understand that standing up for just trashing alternative interpretation of history may lead people calling you out as Hindu nationalist.

It's amazing-terrifying to see how people are proud of the strength of dynasties and rulers all over the world. All they wanted was power, spreading so much pain and blood, often in the name of their god. It's like I am not happy with my house and I always want a bigger one, so I turn to my neighbour and try to take his house, without even carring about suffering. Where there is no love, people make wars. Great history humans, and we're even proud of it.

These kinds of histories really make me wonder, if we had never experienced colonialism by the British where they specifically divided us by religion and culture, if India today would be more like other Asian cultures where people reach across religions and participate in practices from multiple different faiths.

No. Muslims of the subcontinent (India, Pakistan, Bangladeshi) do not have Mughals to thank for the faith. There are 3 Sahabas (companions of the Prophet ﷺ) resting in India, 1 I'm the state of Kerala and 2 in the state of Tamil Nadu. And there are hundreds of Auliya-e-Ikraam (Most Noble Humans after the Ambiya or Prophets Peace Be Upon Them All) Peace Be Upon Them All, that are also resting across the 3 countries. And we have them to thank for our faith. Alhamdulillah. Mughlas were just a kingdom/dynasty that rolled the subcontinent, and happens to be Muslim. Of course there contribution cannot be denied or ignored (one who does that is ignorant), but they are not the only ones of even the primary ones we have to thank for our faith! Thanks.

@@AlMuqaddimahYT imo Suri was the best muslim ruler to ever rule India. His administrative system was continued by Akbar and that's the reason for Akbar's stable governance. Instead of the Anglo-Mysorean wars, I think it would be more interesting to learn about the Mysore Administration under Tipu Sultan, Hyder Ali and the Wodeyars. For example, the economic policies Mysore took to become one of the most developed regions of the world with higher average incomes than Europe. Also, how Mysore tried to modernise with French technology and tried to build a world class blue water navy, star forts at manjarabad etc

@@kabrabamabubensingh535 True. None of the rulers like the Marathas, Jhansi Ki Rani etc were really freedom fighters. They were just fighting for their own Kingdom. However, we must give the Kingdom of Mysore the credit that it was one of the few Indian states to recognise the threat from British Power at a time when the Marathas, Awadh, Hyderabad, Travancore and the Rajputs were all allied with the British and were made to fight against each other and against Mysore as per the divide and rule strategy. Mysore, on the other hand, was trying to balance the power by bringing the French and Napoleon into the game.

It would be great if you talk about the Safavids and later persian dynasties.
