I have never played the first 3 of these games but, was very curious about them. This is a awesome overview of the second game and it's history. This video is greatly appreciated! Nice video and I look forward to the next one!

Hi. I just want to thank you for doing the reviews on the Alone in the Dark series. I like every other review from you as well, but this really took me back to my childhood!
@davidhass3lh0ff12 жыл бұрын
wow thank you :D i still have lots more to learn about game reviewing and some of the audio side of film making but it's great fun to do these game reviews and also talk about the alone in the dark series as not one has really covered it in as much depth as i have so far. now on to AITD 3 ;)

Excellent, in-depth review! Personally, I loved the first game, but I never cared for Part II. Like you mentioned, it has solid visuals and a quality soundtrack, but the gameplay is just broken in areas. The enemies with guns (especially right from the beginning) make it a frustrating experience, and not in a good way. Looking forward to your review of Part III! I never managed to get very far in that one at all.

thank you glade you enjoyed this vid. i think the first 3 AITD games are something gamers would like to know more about and that's what inspired this series of reviews. im not looking to reviewing 3 but i cant weight to drive into AITD the new nightmare.
@davidhass3lh0ff12 жыл бұрын
all 3 AITD game's were amazing feats of game programming and despite there problems they do have there place in gaming history and in there own way helped to shaped the next generation of game's after the AITD trilogy. thanks mark glade you enjoyed the review

under normal circumstances i wouldn't of gotten far in this game but for this review i pushed myself to complete it and man my first playthrew took on and off a few weeks to complete but once you know this game you can tear threw it in under 2 hours. i would love to game part 2 for my saturn collection. you raise a lot of good point's and you right but there is so many things in improve or change they would have to remake this game back then to make it playable. thanks glade you like my reviews

i know in the ship you need to take out one of the enemy with the mini cannon, i think of missed the boom by the fireplace lol that would of made things much easy. with the trident u need to get the little chef to fallow u and hopefully it hits him before it hits you. thanks glade you liked the review

nothing wrong with using the same game engine again as long as it's used in the same way as the previous game, and with this game being more action based it didnt work. i think if they had weighted a few years they could of made a really good sequel using new up and coming hardware. monster with guns!!!!! o god what have they created :O lol thank you glade you enjoyed the review.
@davidhass3lh0ff12 жыл бұрын
lol "Hello sir!" XD why did they keep saying that as it would of made more sense for them to say nothing and just take Edward by surprise. same here i liked the background's and music but the gameplay just lacked. thank you glade you liked the review ;)

thanks man glade you enjoyed the review :D. there are things i like about part 2 and i wanted to like this so much as there are some things about this game i really enjoyed, but for most people they wont be able to even get past the front gate so this isn't game a game for most people. i am looking forward to reviewing part 3 and hopefully it's an improvement on part 2.

lol i was a black belt in the art of the head but after i finished this game. i read that this game was extended in the consoles ports and the dos re-released.

This game had a VERY serious problem with one point where you had to grab an Amulet from the floor. In 99% of cases, you got the infamous "I can't reach it!" message, and was stuck there for all eternity. This is when I concluded that Alone in the Dark 2 is a glitchy pile of shit, and deleted the whole thing alltogether.
@davidhass3lh0ff12 жыл бұрын
as bad as 2 was i have the feeling this engine will really show it's age when i drive into part 3. i dont mine this game engine but for AITD2 they should of had the engine redesigned to better handled action. thanks glade you like the review

Aitd2 is certainly no let down. It got 98% back in the day and was amazing fun although it did have issues with controls it also left for your imagination of what might be in the future eg Max Payne with its awesome 3rd person user interface. that's how in my mind I played alone in the dark 2 in 93. First game a horror 2nd action 3rd a mix. All great in their own way.

This game has great puzzles. I agree, master the head butt! IIRC, the console ports are longer with the section of the game where you play as the little girl, Gracie. I seem to remember this missing from DOS version (nope, not thinking of Jack in the Dark extra content). Great video. Love the game but it's full of issues.
@magnolerriccardo68403 жыл бұрын
Maybe they had should try to create a new title and brand for this game and try then to evolve it in other new stories. But i realize that in 1993 the "Alone 1" success was still burning hearts of gamers. So it represented a perfect spotlight for launch on market this product which is not properly in line with his precessor.

Top notch review. I played this on both PC and PS1 back in the day and both a hard as nails. Sometimes there are groups of enemies and it can be so frustrating at times trying to fight them. I liked a lot of the puzzles and the music is fantastic, but the voice acting of the enemies is terrible. Cant count the amount of times i laughed as an enemy shouted at me, "Hello sir!"
@kallestofeles12 жыл бұрын
Alone in the Dark 1 and AITD - The New Nightmare are the best ones in the series, imo. The New Nightmare just nails that old horror feeling of the first game and somewhat uses the ideas from the original Resident Evil series, thus making it the best game in the series... at least in my thoughts. Alas since there was a huge gap between the releases of AITD1 and The New Nightmare...
@DLiberator7812 жыл бұрын
A great review as always Michael. It is a shame they just rehashed the AID 2 & 3 using the same tired 3D engine from the 1st game. The sequels could have been so much more if they put the effort in instead of just going for the quick buck.

W-Wow wait they took on the Flying Dutchmen and...won!? Either this is how the ship became cursed or we have the first paranormal team to take on ghosts and a curse breaking it in the progress. Also Jack huh....Would make a joke but that film came out years and years after this game and sure it wasn't a ref to this. EDIT:Ah I see...that's a interesting beginning to that ship's tale.

Hm also, there is one large group of enemies you can drop a small bomb down a fireplace on the 2nd floor & kill several enemies on floor 1. Might be the same group? I remember some issue with the statue by the kitchen throwing the trident & getting timing right. So difficult.

I would say that the second big PROBLEM of this game, besides the gameplay and game mechanics is the PUZZLES !., the puzzles this time around are very un-intuitive, many involve doing things on the run or catching and using things in the middle of action moments., are very hard to figure and without a guide you would never get how to progress, i even think that even with a text guide you won´t understand sometimes, you need to watch a gameplay on how to do it to understand., they went too overboard with the difficulty is sad cause the graphics are very good and the story is good

i know its a old review but ii really was negative about, so much criticism about aitd 2. i think it is the best of the original series, i know i have been grown up with these games, and of course i have a nostalgic fealing when i play them. but you also mention there is no puzzle solving, and yes there is. like your review of the first game, you said you have to use a walktrough, thats simply a wrong statement. i went through the first game about age 7-8. so if thats why you see missing puzzle in the second game, thats proberly why. i also think to day the game sound track is one of the best there is.

Froggy Sawbridge Robert's not wrong, you know. Michael needs to work on his diction, because the words often blur together. If you can't hear what he says, well, he'll lose a part of the audience that would otherwise be interested. Listen at, for example, 15:07, and tell me there is no room for improvement.

Trazan Apansson before you guys judge my diction skills ask yourself these three questions. What was the date that this video was uploaded? and in the time between this video was uploaded to now has Michael A, made more video's? and B, has his diction skills improved in those newer video? I don't mind constructive criticism, but to judge my current ability to dictate based solely on a video i made over 2 years ago is ridiculous!
